For Ann Waychoff. May she always rest in peace. She will always rock on! Through our memories as well as just being a great person in general. For so many people to love her makes me feel like we missed out on a lot of great times with her. We wish we could have met her and had some time to talk. R.I.P. Ann Waychoff.
Marko once said in an interview he was so happy to sing with Floor because he didn't have to back down on his vocals, he could belt full on, and that's one of the reasons this song is one of my favorites. And Chrissy... you can recognise Jukka because he's always wearing a bandana.
WINTERSUN - Sons Of Winter And Stars / Time will be another deep rabbit hole for you, this is the other band of the current drummer and bassist of Nightwish .
Favorite song of the late Ann Waychoff, Mother of the Nightwish Army. Inspired by the 52 chapter 19th century poem of the same name by Walt Whitman. The studio version has a spoken poem section at the end, written by Tuomas in an ode to the original. The words to that are what is on the big screen behind the band. An Anette era song on the Imaginaerum album Song #14 of 15 here at Wacken , right after Ghost Love Score. One of the reasons Emppu has that cabinet on stage is to use it as a table for his Corona beer and guitar picks. lol
I like them both, but agree with you on this. Nightwish has the ability to pull you in no matter what or where you are and doing, they just bring it with every composition.

I love these artists for being so humble and down to earth.

This is an awesome song and Nightwish kills it. Marco and Floor harmonize so well together. And I loved Marko singing along to the choir parts. Enjoy the festival, I bet the banjo solos rock. Keep rocking🤘🤘🤘
Great reaction as always. For me Jukka has a thicker almost "wet" sound to his kit where as Kai is has a much tighter and dryer sound. Still both amazing drummers!
Kai has that modern rapid fire bass drum technique and even though I prefer Pearl drums over Tama, his drum sound is dead sounding. His drum heads must be tuned tight. Pantera had that same sound and tuning technique. Jukka has that old school thump to his drum sound. He must've been inspired by the 80s San Fran sound that spawned Mettallica, Megadeth, Exodus, Testament, etc... Jukka has a sound comparible to Dave Lombardo (Slayer), and Tommy Lee (Motley Crue). Both Drummers had a ton of thump and resonance to their sound. Tommy Lee basically put Tama on the map in the early 80s and Dave was the best thrash drummer from that early thrash scene.
@2ndhandsouls, Animal would dig this one big time! This was song 14 of the set, right after Ghost Love Score and before the concert closer Last Ride of the Day! You guys should definitely react to the whole Wacken 2013 concert. It’s a total blast and such an amazing experience burning in sequence through the whole grandeur that was this event.🤟🤟✌️✌️🇨🇦
It is A Tribute to the poem in 52 chapters, One for every week of the year, " Song of myself " by Walt Whitman(one of the co-founders of US poetry) . The 7th line of the song is ""Of mermaids, of Whitman's and the Ride""". The extended studio version of this song has, at the end, a poem as a tribute to Whitman made by Tuomas, the keyboard player and the mastermind of nightwish. These lines you can also see fast flahing on the ledscreen of this video. Bucle up, it goes very deep. " I see a slow, simple youngster by a busy street With a begging bowl in his shaking hand Trying to smile but hurting infinitely Nobody notices I do, but walk by An old man gets naked and kisses a model-doll in his attic It's half-light and he's in tears When he finally comes his eyes are cascading I see a beaten dog in a pungent alley He tries to bite me All pride has left his wild drooling eyes I wish I had my leg to spare A mother visits her son, Smiles to him through the bars She's never loved him more An obese girl enters an elevator with me All dressed up fancy A green butterfly on her neck Terribly sweet perfume deafens me She's going to dinner alone That makes her even more beautiful I see a model's face on a brick wall A statue of porcelain perfection beside a violent city kill A city that worships flesh The first thing I ever heard Was a wandering man telling his story It was you, the grass under my bare feet The campfire in the dead of the night The heavenly black of sky and sea It was us Roaming the rainy roads Combing the gilded beaches Waking up to a new gallery of wonders every morn Bathing in places no-one's seen before Shipwrecked on some matt-painted island Clad in nothing but the surf Beauty's finest robe Beyond all mortality we are Swinging in the breath of nature In early air of the dawn of life A sight to silence the heavens I want to travel where life travels Following its permanent lead Where the air tastes like snow music Where grass smells like fresh-born Eden I would pass no man, no stranger, no tragedy or rapture I would bathe in a world of sensation Love, Goodness, and Simplicity (While violated and imprisoned by technology) The thought of my family's graves was the only moment I used to experience true love That love remains infinite As I'll never be the man my father is How can you "just be yourself" When you don't know who you are? Stop saying "I know how you feel" How could anyone know how another feels? Who am I to judge a priest, beggar, whore, politician, wrongdoer? I am, you are, all of them already Dear child, stop working, go play Forget every rule There's no fear in a dream "Is there a village inside this snowflake?" A child asked me "What's the color of our lullaby?" I've never been so close to truth as then I touched its silver lining Death is the winner in any war Nothing noble in dying for your religion For your country For ideology, for faith For another man, yes Paper is dead without words Ink idle without a poem All the world dead without stories Without love and disarming beauty Careless realism costs souls Ever seen the Lord smile? All the care for the world made Beautiful a sad man? Why do we still carry a device of torture around our necks? Oh, how rotten your pre-apocalypse is All you bible-black fools living over nightmare ground I see all those empty cradles and wonder If man will ever change I, too, wish to be a decent manboy But all I am Is smoke and mirrors Still given everything, may I be deservin And there forever remains That change from G to E minor. "
Talking about blue grass I hope you'll react to "Steve'n'Seagulls - Thunderstruck", (AC/DC cover). The video has 150 million views. Tens of thousands of comments, 99% positive. The band started as kind of a joke, but became a surprising success. The band is from Finland, very nice country boys, I have met them a couple of times. They are great live as well.
An absolute banger, even if it's the "abridged" version w/ the poetry (see: NW Army Field Marshal Martine's comment). My favourite moment here is at 7:35 where Emppu lets his guitar soar while casually taking a sip. Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘
Fantastic song, and such a pleasure to watch it with you - you manage to make it feel like we're just a bunch of friends hangin out and listening to great music together - it's like being young again! 🤘
I have been listening to these guys around 3 years now, they are just incredible, and they continue to amaze. They still killing it in 2022 also, right now they down in Rio, selling out all shows, and leaving attendees in awe of their greatness. Loved the reaction. 🤘
@@2ndhandsoulsmusic no, she passed June 28th 2020, 64 years old. You can say she was the mother and founder of the Nightwish Army, one reason the Nightwish comment section is what it is, her legacy. She introduced every new reactor to Nightwish, what Gabriel has continued with. She was a very sweet and lovely woman, who was dearly loved on the comment section. There is a lot that could be said about Ann and her special place in the Nightwish community, and as you saw she is still remembered whenever this song is reacted too.
I agree with you Crissy, Poet and the Pendulum is my personal favorite and this one is my second favorite, but I love them all. Enjoy the BlueGrass festival and the rest of the weekend. 🫶🤘🇳🇱
No 2 in my list. Best description of depression - "Sometimes the Within is Piano Black". Marcos second entry, the gliss - my ringtone so I can hear it several times a day. The switch from the soft vocal at the start in the "velvet" register, to raw power. Unfortunately the sebum version is not so good, but there is a fan made video that has the album ending (a lengthy poem) added. Sadly not played live since this EFMB tour.
Just one more... There is a tiny half second snip of a banjo in The Greatest Show on Earth. You got the correct speed version, hooray (not bluray)! Plenty of references to other songs. Marko duet again :) Walt Whitman poem. "Sometimes the within is piano black Piano Black over cleansing waters." Those drops, the last delayed one. Yep, another new favourite. There is good on the internet, as well as bad.
R.I.P Ann Waychoff mother of the Nightwish Army. June 28th, 2020 This is your song. If you ever have to explain the Groove in Metal to someone - play this tune. Until the Breakdown hits you with a 10 ton hammer it is all fun and games. But then the slow chugging monster with the machine gun riffing takes over. And for every Metal Head this lights up the day. Awesome….Imho one of the best songs ever. Sometimes the sky is piano black…. Floor Jansen, First of Her Name, Queen of the Valkyries and Stonehenge, Lady of Nightwish and Protector of our Metal Realm. Long may she reign. Bow, mortal !
Again so great song by them....Jukka shines here with the drums but yes they all do so great. There is actually a poem in the end which is vital part of the song. It is on the album though.
It's a pity that you didn't get to hear the poem (spoken part), which is part of album version of this song. Like the song, it's written in Walt Whitman style. The whole song is a homage to Whitman, Tuomas's favourite poet. He wrote the lyrics and poem in a way that Whitman would possibly have done. The poem is pretty raw, yet beautiful and the voices recorded in this spoken part are those of Troy and some of Nightwish's family and friends. If you want to hear it, you can watch this video th-cam.com/video/RzxRHF50sMc/w-d-xo.html
Hi Martine, had je deze van @Paashaas2013 al gehoord? "Nightwish - Song of Myself (with Floor Jansen) | Studio Version Remix" - th-cam.com/video/LFpNZSWPHh0/w-d-xo.html Groetjes uit "A'dam" 🤘
This film crew had a great sound guy. He borrows sound from the main sound board from the bands live sound guy. The film crew sound guy has to adjust the sound on his end so you never know how a live video will sound. Great reaction
Great song and reaction, as usual. Here is the whole rabbit hole for you: Nightwish forms in 1996, After forever forms in 1995 by Mark Jansen and Sanders Gommans, 16yr. old Floor Jansen joins in 1997, Mark Jansen leaves in 2001, After forever supports Nightwish on tour in the early 2000s, Mark Jansen forms Epica along with 17yr. old girlfriend Simone Simmons and keyboardist Coen Jannsen, Simone Simmons was ispired to sing by original Nightwish vocalist Tarja Turunen and attend the same vocal academy as friend Floor Jansen (not at the same time), Tarja was fired from Nightwish in 2004 (end of an era DVD is the recording of the final show) and eventually replaced by Annete Olzen, Epica supports Nightwish on tour during this period, 2008 After forever releases their 5th album and starts to make a dent in the US market but at the end of the tour the band basically quits Floor (She is very politically correct about this to this day but by 2008 Floor had developed her own fan base apart from the band), Floor forms Revamp in 2009 and supports Epica on parts of their tour during this time, 2012 Anette is replaced for some shows by Floor and is eventually fired from Nightwish, At the time of the 2013 recording of the Wacken show and DVD Floor "is not" a full time member yet, shortly after Floor and Troy were made full time members of Nightwish, 2015 Floor officially disbands Revamp after their 2nd album and tour. All the while in the US we were exposed to Nu metal, ignoring the European symphonic scene - WHAT AN INSULT AND A TRAVESTY!!! I haven't even mentioned Delain. A more poppy radio friendly version of symphonic metal, good stuff though. Charlotte Wessels is a fantastic vocalist. Their Paradiso show is great.
Like some have already commented, this was the favorite song of the late Ann Waychoff, who passed away Sunday, June 28, 2020 at age 66. She was an avid follower of the Finnish band “Nightwish,” and an active participant of the band’s community. She was the four star general for the Nightwish army. P.S. Hope you had fun at that bluegrass festival. You might also really enjoy this song by a U.S. symphonic power metal band with their 2nd & most appreciated vocalist Roy Khan performing live in Norway, where he was born in 1970: KAMELOT - Forever (Live) th-cam.com/video/EqqPYySZnVY/w-d-xo.html
I heard the best description of the difference between Jukka & Kai, both great drummers. Someone, somewhere said Jukka is a Sith and Kai is a Jedi, both tapped into the force but Jukka more animated and chaotic while Kai is more like a metronome, steady and calm.
On the album Imaginaerum, the 4th and the last part of "Song of Myself" ia called "Love" and is the entire second half of the complete track, containing nothing but ambient symphonic metal music and spoken narrations. It beautiful. One of my favorite vers is the following, but all are superb : An obese girl enters an elevator with me All dressed up fancy A green butterfly on her neck Terribly sweet perfume deafens me She's going to dinner alone That makes her even more beautiful
you talked about the quality of the music and vocals before it is put on TH-cam, of course it was first tuned by a specialist and mixed with film material, but in real life it is even more amazing than on TH-cam, in the audience a technician walks around with a tablet (kind of laptop computer) where he can see and HEAR exactly which microphone needs to be louder or softer, and hearing specialist so, they always do it with TV recordings, so when Floor sings a bit softer, tuning he goes up a bit, she goes too loud afterwards it goes down a bit. that's why it sounds fantastic at both a performance and a recording or certainly for a TH-cam channel, the technician does it himself. That's why you hardly hear the audience with one song and with another technician you can, can turn it away or pay it that is the statement that it sounds so great, in fact, I've even seen them do this. gr.Jan gr. from the Netherlands ,🇱🇺 KEEP DIGGEN ITE🤘🤘❤️❤️🤘🤘
I love you guys, you are so far down 'the rabbit hole' that there's no way back! You guys remind me of ME, when I first discovered Nightwish, I was like where have they been all my life...! But seriously, I have seen NW reactions and the 'reactor(s)' are just riding the gravy train poaching for "Like, subscribe, and don't forget the patreon..." etc. But you guys, I can see you are all (where's Animal???) transfixed, beguiled and astounded by NW.
Marco also has some involvement with the band's sound I assume. In an interview jun1 , 2020 Marco told - Yea. When I was in my twenties I got to be an apprentice recording engineer. That is why I was sitting in the studio and helping people out. I was also doing a lot of studio vocal work; both coaching, arranging, and singing harmonies. It had been an interest of mine, but I do have to say lately I have been putting the brakes down. (Laughs) At some point in time I was doing so much work it started to lose its point. These days, I try to very basically keep it to projects who I am friends with and whose music interests me ---

A mother visits her son,
Smiles to him through the bars
She's never loved him more
An obese girl enters an elevator with me
All dressed up fancy
A green butterfly on her neck
Terribly sweet perfume deafens me
She's going to dinner alone
That makes her even more beautiful
I see a model's face on a brick wall
A statue of porcelain perfection beside a violent city kill
A city that worships flesh
The first thing I ever heard
Was a wandering man telling his story
It was you, the grass under my bare feet
The campfire in the dead of the night
The heavenly black of sky and sea
It was us
Roaming the rainy roads
Combing the gilded beaches
Waking up to a new gallery of wonders every morn
Bathing in places no-one's seen before
Shipwrecked on some matt-painted island
Clad in nothing but the surf
Beauty's finest robe
Beyond all mortality we are
Swinging in the breath of nature
In early air of the dawn of life
A sight to silence the heavens
I want to travel where life travels
Following its permanent lead
Where the air tastes like snow music
Where grass smells like fresh-born Eden
I would pass no man, no stranger, no tragedy or rapture
I would bathe in a world of sensation
Love, Goodness, and Simplicity
(While violated and imprisoned by technology)
The thought of my family's graves was the only moment
I used to experience true love
That love remains infinite
As I'll never be the man my father is
How can you "just be yourself"
When you don't know who you are?
Stop saying "I know how you feel"
How could anyone know how another feels?
Who am I to judge a priest, beggar, whore, politician, wrongdoer?
I am, you are, all of them already
Dear child, stop working, go play
Forget every rule
There's no fear in a dream
"Is there a village inside this snowflake?"
A child asked me
"What's the color of our lullaby?"
I've never been so close to truth as then
I touched its silver lining
Death is the winner in any war
Nothing noble in dying for your religion
For your country
For ideology, for faith
For another man, yes
Paper is dead without words
Ink idle without a poem
All the world dead without stories
Without love and disarming beauty
Careless realism costs souls
Ever seen the Lord smile?
All the care for the world made Beautiful a sad man?
Why do we still carry a device of torture around our necks?
Oh, how rotten your pre-apocalypse is
All you bible-black fools living over nightmare ground
I see all those empty cradles and wonder
If man will ever change
I, too, wish to be a decent manboy
But all I am
Is smoke and mirrors
Still given everything, may I be deservin
And there forever remains
That change from G to E minor. "
The song, performance and reaction were an absolute treat. Thank you.
An other master piece/performance from Nightwish, this whole concert is epic, you should do the whole ting in one reaction!
Great reaction as usual. Love watching you!
What a performance, absolutely fabulous! The second part is soo enchanting, my fav performance of this gig #Wacken
Jukka always has a bandana on his head love this band nobody better God bless
An absolute banger, even if it's the "abridged" version w/ the poetry (see: NW Army Field Marshal Martine's comment). My favourite moment here is at 7:35 where Emppu lets his guitar soar while casually taking a sip. Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘
Fantastic song, and such a pleasure to watch it with you - you manage to make it feel like we're just a bunch of friends hangin out and listening to great music together - it's like being young again! 🤘
Greetings from UK 🙂
I noticed that this song got overlooked earlier in your reactions, I am glad that you found it again! 🤣🤣
Love you guys, my new favorite reactors.
I have been listening to these guys around 3 years now, they are just incredible, and they continue to amaze. They still killing it in 2022 also, right now they down in Rio, selling out all shows, and leaving attendees in awe of their greatness. Loved the reaction. 🤘
For Ann.🤘❤️
Just love this song and the second half just gets me headbanging every time 😍
Great and fun reactions 🤘🤘guys
Try' Bless the Child ' beautiful song, beautiful lyrics..awesome performance 😇😇😇
Bluegrassband from Finland must listening Steven's Seagulls cover Thunderstruck.
For Ann, R.I.P dear. We miss you🤘❤️🤘
Ann Wachoff. May she always rock and roll with us all. RIP. Respect.
Is this the day she passed away? We just don't know.
Love you guys, love how you do it, greetings Rudie out of the Netherlands
I agree with you Crissy, Poet and the Pendulum is my personal favorite and this one is my second favorite, but I love them all. Enjoy the BlueGrass festival and the rest of the weekend. 🫶🤘🇳🇱
Remains the change from G to E minor = GEm 💎 I really enjoy your reactions, thank you!
Have fun at the blue-grass show, guys!
But do not forget there's only one band in the world that will conquer allllllll...NGHTWSH 😄
Was waiting for when you get to this one! One of my favourite Nightwish songs which are many, but this one is in my top 2 handfuls 😀! 🖤🤘🏻 from Germany
You guys are so cool 👍🤟❤️ i really really love Chrissy she's awesome 🙏❤️🌹👍🤟
No 2 in my list.
Best description of depression - "Sometimes the Within is Piano Black".
Marcos second entry, the gliss - my ringtone so I can hear it several times a day.
The switch from the soft vocal at the start in the "velvet" register, to raw power.
Unfortunately the sebum version is not so good, but there is a fan made video that has the album ending (a lengthy poem) added.
Sadly not played live since this EFMB tour.
One of the most impressive things about this performance is , it was the next song after Ghost Love Score .
"And There, Forever Remains The Change From G to E minor..." R.I.P. Ann Waychoff
Love your guys reactions. Just continue your rabbithole experience of Nightwish., Whatever the next song, you can't go wrong!
Hey guys. Me again. LU. This band never dissapoint.. Best band ever. Greettings and thanks.
One of my favorites for sure.
At last my favourite song, thank you! 🏴
Masterful composing again with this one from Tuomas❣️
Great reaction to a super charged composition. Have a great Blue Grassy time tonight. Until the next one. Peace. ✌
Time for some ethereal head banging. Bless the child, from Wacken please. My favorite. Well done as always.
You guys are great fun, love your reactions!
Keep on Rocking 🖖
One of the best songs ever!
Makes my Kentucky heart warm mentioning the bluegrass festival, hope you enjoyed it.
I did!
🤩👍💥💯
Not so "Silent symphony"
🤘😎 🇫🇮 💙
U should give Wintersun a try as well, drummer and bass player plays for nightwish nowadays.
Jukka is the pirate bull rider on the drums 😁
This is one of my favorites.
Just one more...
There is a tiny half second snip of a banjo in The Greatest Show on Earth.
You got the correct speed version, hooray (not bluray)!
Plenty of references to other songs.
Marko duet again :)
Walt Whitman poem.
"Sometimes the within is piano black
Piano Black over cleansing waters."
Those drops, the last delayed one.
Yep, another new favourite.
There is good on the internet, as well as bad.
True dat. Thank you and God bless.
R.I.P Ann Waychoff mother of the Nightwish Army. June 28th, 2020
This is your song.
It is on the album though.
with you guys, god bless and take care
@@BrendonChase_2015 Nee, dank voor de tip 👍🏻
@@BrendonChase_2015 dankjewel voor de link. Ik kende deze versie ook niet. Groetjes uit Den Haag. 🤘
@@frank1963 Geen dank. Paashaas is echt een magiër met het isoleren van zangpartijen. Ouderwetsch vakwerk ;)
Ohhh cool! We've been wanting to learn more about it. Thank you so much for this and God bless.
This film crew had a great sound guy. He borrows sound from the main sound board from the bands live sound guy. The film crew sound guy has to adjust the sound on his end so you never know how a live video will sound. Great reaction
😊🇫🇮❤️🎼✨💙🤘
Bluegrass festival? I love bluegrass 🤘 banjos ? Yes Yes Yes. Show us some bluegrass PLEASE. ✌️
One of my favorites! It's like two songs in one.
The best band that most in the mainstream have never heard of…….
Chrissy, Dead Boys Poem might tear you up also…
Like some have already commented, this was the favorite song of the late Ann Waychoff, who passed away Sunday, June 28, 2020 at age 66.
One of my favorite vers is the following, but all are superb :
An obese girl enters an elevator with me
All dressed up fancy
A green butterfly on her neck
Terribly sweet perfume deafens me
She's going to dinner alone
That makes her even more beautiful
you talked about the quality of the music and vocals before it is put on TH-cam, of course it was first tuned by a specialist and mixed with film material, but in real life it is even more amazing than on TH-cam, in the audience a technician walks around with a tablet (kind of laptop computer) where he can see and HEAR exactly which microphone needs to be louder or softer, and hearing specialist so, they always do it with TV recordings, so when Floor sings a bit softer, tuning he goes up a bit, she goes too loud afterwards it goes down a bit. that's why it sounds fantastic at both a performance and a recording or certainly for a TH-cam channel, the technician does it himself. That's why you hardly hear the audience with one song and with another technician you can, can turn it away or pay it that is the statement that it sounds so great, in fact, I've even seen them do this.

KEEP DIGGEN ITE🤘🤘❤️❤️🤘🤘
I love you guys, you are so far down 'the rabbit hole' that there's no way back! You guys remind me of ME, when I first discovered Nightwish, I was like where have they been all my life...! But seriously, I have seen NW reactions and the 'reactor(s)' are just riding the gravy train poaching for "Like, subscribe, and don't forget the patreon..." etc. But you guys, I can see you are all (where's Animal???) transfixed, beguiled and astounded by NW.
Poet and the Pilgrim sounds like a pretty cool album name you should run with that one. Always fun listening to you guys thank you God bless.
These days, I try to very basically keep it to projects who I am friends with and whose music interests me ---
KIITOS!!!😃😃😃
