  • In today's Europa Universalis IV (EU4) video we will be uniting each culture group in the game into one unified country and seeing who comes out on top. This is the most scientific way to determine the superior culture groups of EU4 and there's no alternative.

    I think the Greek culture group is actually the most underrepresented in the game. The game is heavily focused on Europe but in most cases the Byzantines, Trabizond, and Theodoro are conquered early on and their cultures don’t really impact the nations who have conquered them much. Way more underrepresented than any non European culture group in this game

      However, Stalin basically wanted a more comfortable place behind carpathian mountains in case he wanted to invade west so the Soviet Union made the Czechs give away the territory. When the Soviets came everyone hated them and there were huge repressions and purges. The whole county was basically cealed off from the rest of the USSR until the 50s when Khrushchev came to power and the worst repression were lifted.
      And yes we have out own language that is only spoken mainly in the Highlands called Rusyn. It's not a dialect because Ukrainians, Slovaks or anyone else don't understand it .

    • @snk_private
      @snk_private ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm, then again they did not have a huge influence outside of their borders (except for making the British and French have something to do, while not wearing each other)... Still those nuances of the Bretons or Irish staying Gaelic all through the game and having at least a local or administrative impact would be cool - the meta is too much leaning towards those WC games and even though they are fun and should be possible, I think they influence other aspects of the game too much

    • @Aureus282
      @Aureus282 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@snk_privateWhile, yes they didn't have much influence historically, EU4 as an alt-history game could accommodate them perfectly.
      I agree with the cultural mechanics though. There should be cultural/religious revolts like the conversion of the Moors when Castile conquers Grenada. Currently, all there is the O'Neill revolt which happens even if the region is Anglican and English or if it has 90 autonomy which doesn't make much sense

      There should be ways to bring back dead cultures.
      Like bringing back Briton if you conquer England as a Celtic nation, or Gaul if you conquer France as a celt.
      That way you can bring back Visigothic if you conquer Iberia as Germans, Cappadochian Greeks if you conquer south east anatolia as Greeks.
      I would love it I could bring back Khwarezmids, Sogdians and Scythians if I conquered central Asia as Iran.

For example, Albania should not be part of the south Slavic culture group, Bohemia could arguably be considered its own culture because of the massive Germanic influence and Bulgaria could also be considered their own culture as they do not originate from the Slavs, but are infact a mixture of the Slavs, the bulgars and the multitude of Greek and Thracian peoples that lived on those lands even before the Slavs. Tho that logic can be applied to many of the cultures in the game I admit.

    For underrated:
    Byzantine/Greek -> 3 cultures, one of which should be in the Germanic group. Doesn't account for Armenians, Albanians or Georgians who could all debatably be in said group. When EU4 starts there should've been more Greeks in Anatolia. Not gonna mention the Asia minor coastal holdouts, but instead the Cappadocians in Karaman/Ramazan starting area. Missed opportunity to have a fourth 'authentic' Byzantine culture.
    Breton should be in the British or Gaelic group, it wasn't made fully French for centuries after its conquest. Also, there were Anglo-Irish areas in Ireland long before the concerted efforts to conquer it during Eu4's timespan. Not sure what group they'd go into, just that it was a thing.
    In ck2 Byzantine was the catch-all culture group of random cultures occupying the same area that didn't really have a group. In EU4 I'd wager Caucasian is that equivalent.

    • @kagany696
      @kagany696 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Anatolia in general is extremely crappy. Not only does it not have any Greek exclaves, they put Turkish in the ARABIC GROUP. A 4th Byzantine culture should be added,likely Cappadocian. I don't think Georgian and Armenian should be added to Byzantine though. Turkish and Azerbaijani should be made into a culture group, with a 3rd Turkoman culture which would be exclaves in coastal Syria and Northern Iraq.
      Agree that Breton should not be French.

The Soviets would then annex this area from Czechoslovakia into the Ukrainian SSR after WWII.

      @@paulochon7692 i think celtic culture "disapeared" mostly during the 3rd republic (1870-1940) because régional langages were forbidden at school so the language decreased in the population.

    I mean, the province at 1:03 is historically not Hungarian or Slovakian. Even modern day it's part of Ukraine, and I also thing the Carpathians are fair to have as an impassable border. It's not really bad game design either since it's not like that's really going to hurt anyone's game unless there's something that requires all Russian culture to unlock.

    In a normal 1444 start its the artificial "Levantine" culture group cause the devs went lazy on that and decided that everything from Cairo to Oman and from Yemen to Constantinople belongs to the same group. In a more realistic approach Turkish would be in the same group with Azerbaijani and the central asian turks

    New Iraq was a colony of Iraq before Iraq was Iraq.
    Iraqi government in 2301CE managed to create a time machine, they wanted to use it to help Iraq be more powerful in the past so Iraqis get more power in 2301CE. They Traveled all the way back and created the New Iraq colony for the hopes it would become the new United States and be an Iraqi super power.
