    Jon was my favorite character on the Waltons. He was so gentle and sensitive; and a fabulous musician. Loved the episodes with him and Linda. I watch the Waltons every night. They keep me company, cuz I’m not a sleeper. Thank you so much Judy, Jon and Linda too. Keep ‘em coming.

      @@judynorton2598 I understood he was born in England but came to the states as a baby, so grew up over here with an American accent, but has lived in both countries. I think Kami Colter told that in her blog on FB. I think with his parents from England and hearing them every day of his youth, he would have some of their accent. Between that and living some of his adulthood in England he would. He sounded to me he did not sound so much British but that his accent was kind of a blend probably because he lives in Cornwall now. We knew a British family that moved here when Delta Airlines transferred the father to Atlanta. One son was only 6 weeks old. You would hear a British accent in him when he read out loud as a kid. Lol, because his mom taught him how to read before he started to school. My daughter had a friend in high school who was Mexican American. She had a strong southern accent until she spoke Spanish lol! Then you would have thought she was born and raised in Mexico.

    Jon is just so sweet. I love Linda Purl. I have seen a number of appearances she made over the years. I loved her in Matlock and was disappointed that she decided to leave the series. A few years ago I bought the first five seasons of the original Hawaii 5-0, and much to my delight, one of the guest stars was Linda. She must have been very young. She was adorable. She still has that baby face. She just doesn't seem to age. And I am so jealous that she's now with Bobby Ewing. 🤩🥰. I would love to hear Jon sing. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to hear and see him perform his own material. I'm a singer and when I was at college, I was part of a folk group. Every Thursday we would hold a coffee house. It was such a nice experience. It was a place where everyone was welcome and anyone who wanted to sing, was welcome to do so. I have been singing since I was 7, I'm now 63. There is something magical about a person playing the guitar. I find it cozy and it harkens back to junior high school when my older brother was in a folk group, they named the group The Troubadours. I hope we get to see more videos with Jon. Thank you Judy for such a lovely video.

    Judy, first Jon Walmsley just sounds like someone I would really enjoy sitting down with. He has a marvelous sense of humor, great charm and just so humble. Nothing pretentious about him. I had NO idea he was British. He really pulls off an American accent perfectly.
    It was incredibly generous of them both to film this on their personal time and I thank them both. It was also generous of you and your son since I noticed the well placed clips when they talked about the episodes which obviously took time to edit and insert. So, thank you Judy for doing this for us fans!
    p.s. I took the time to see a few TH-cam clips of Jon's playing. He plays guitar incredibly well and he makes it look SO EASY! He both fingerpicks and also uses a pick which, as a beginner guitar player you tend to choose either because it's difficult to do both - but not for Jon. So much talent.

      I took it the other way around. He pulls off a slight English accent (maybe he picked it up since he lives there now) but his American accent is real. His family left England when he was 2 years old so I doubt he had that accent growing up. But I may be wrong.... :)

    • @m.e.d.7997

      @@cinapoowee7582 To my knowledge he would have to have been there in England til he was around 18 to have retained the British accent. I know he talked fully American on The Waltons.

    • @joeseeking3572
      @joeseeking3572 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cinapoowee7582 I suspect that's correct. A very close friend moved to England about 33 years ago and both he and his wife have picked up a (slight) English accent, but but they were in their early 20s at time of the move and speech patters are pretty much set by 12, maybe 14 at the outside. They did pick up word choices - obviously - but also idiomatic phrasing, which to my American ears is utterly charming. Of course the kids are fully native and really don't have an 'American' identity - why would they.

    • @judynorton2598
      @judynorton2598  2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I only hear Jon’s British accent when he chooses. Although since being. back in England and around the accent all the time, likely easier to slip into again. I’ve always known Jon to slip in and out of the accent at will.

    What a treat this was/is! Now, I knew that Mr. Walmsley was born in England and came to America as a youngster. I’m not surprised to see him there. What _is_ interesting is to hear him speaking with a London accent. Nowadays, there are several well known actors here in the States from England, Australia, and New Zealand who do a perfect American accent - so perfect that you’d never know they weren’t native born Americans.
    QUESTION:
    Did Walmsley have any kind of British accent during your time in _The Waltons?_ Or did he pick that up later?

    Wow, this was great! I enjoyed seeing Jon and Linda. I remember watching those episodes with Linda Purl back when they originally aired. Linda was very pretty then and still is. I love to hear Jon play and sing. I will never forget the song ironing board blues while Grandma irons. Thanks for sharing this with us.

    Great to see that Mr. Walmsley is still friends with Miss Purl despite what Vanessa pulled on Jason (and the boat mishap)! Since I recall him having had a strong US American accent away from the show beforehand , I imagine that being back in his homeland surrounded by other British accented speakers, that that has re-instated his once-dormant original English accent! Accents are funny ( think of Dr. Ruth STILL having a German accent in her 90's despite having left there when she was 10). Nice that these two are still active in the entertainment industry (despite the odds which include COVID) and that they were generous enough to film their chat for all of this! Thanks for this!

    Thank you so much, Judy! Both John and Linda look fantastic...and of course, Linda had a remarkable career in the years that followed her appearance on the show. I do recall the boat incident - if we had only saved the outtakes! FYI - when we featured the "Lake" (our Drucilla's pond) we took into account that the actors just might come in contact with the water, and the entire pond was drained, cleaned, and re-filled for filming...in our case, Warner Brothers paid for the process as we were technically 'renting' the location which we used frequently. Wonderful memories.

    There is a constant theme for me within these interviews and reflections and that is one of genuine goodness of the people involved. There was something truly special about this show, it's cast and it's crew. It cannot be explained away by the era in which it occurred. There are plenty of examples of troubled actors, both young and old, and troubled shows during the 70's and 80's. I think the quality of the cast and their continued support for the show throughout the decades is the key to it's continued popularity and loyal following. Thank you and please continue to provide these lovely videos for us all to enjoy.

    Judy that was so nice to see, I never put the two characters of Linda’s together. I was so surprised to find out she was one of the kids in The Spoiler. What a great actress, I can still hear her, “Well, La-de dah” to Olivia. When an actor can get under the skin like she did with that particular character well that’s just great acting.
    So sweet to see John also, I can’t imagine how it must have felt like having Ralph get mad at you… glad the guitar was saved though.
    Here’s a question: how would the director, such as Ralph or Richard, director a scene if they themselves were in the scene? Did that ever complicate things or make it easier since the actor knew the family so well?
    Thanks again Judy, I might have missed one ore two, but I real do like being able to watch your videos. They send me on my day with something special that I can tuck away in my heart, making the day that much bearable.

      When an actor is also directing, it does add a bit of complexity, but it’s mostly on them to be prepared and confident that they are getting what they need and want when they are also in the scene. But, I think a definite advantage that they know the history and characters so well.

    If Jon was born in the UK and came over to the US to do shows and stuff, when exactly did he come over? and while shooting the Waltons, I did not really pick up on it, but did he have an accent or use UK slang or words that would slip out during filming/between takes?
