    I’m crazy for casseroles.
    For $157 you served your family for 18 days. Wonderful job!🎉

      But just think of the many portions ! Because one casserole doesn't just make 5 portions but most likely 8-10 so, it is an incredible savings !

      I was thinking with casseroles you usually get lots of leftovers.

    • @childofgod3675
      @childofgod3675 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Right. Less than $9 each meal pan and each pan probably makes 2 meals.

    • @childofgod3675
      @childofgod3675 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well, she corrected to $133 for the 18 meals, less than $8 per pan.

      $133.00 wow $7.38 per casserole or $1.47 if you say each casserole will only serve 5. We all know that will serve more than 5. Great job

    You are so wise to get an upright freezer! I’ve been preaching this for years. In chest freezers too many things get lost and forgotten. Side note, every time I have a new grandchild I go fill their family freezer with CASSEROLES!

      The only difference that might be significant in some situations is that they are not as good at keeping things cold when the door is opened, so certain things might have a shorter life in that kind of freezer. That is not a big deal for most people though, just something to consider.

    Little tip, get a vacuum sealer. We make our freezer meals, vacuum seal them, freeze, then do boil in bags. We take them to families just having a baby, elderly friends who can just toss them In boiling water, sick friends or family.

    Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I was so glad to see your video on freezer meals. We have a group of women at church that make freezer meals and put them in the church freezer to give to people in need…when they’re sick, have had a baby, a funeral, etc. I never know what to make. Plus I will make them for my family as well

    While I was pregnant, I literally made 28 freezer meals for after I gave birth. It was the best thing I did!! They lasted well over a month because some nights I actually felt like cooking. It was so nice to not have to stress about dinner! Thank you for the video Brooke! ❤

    Just watched your video. Great ideas! When my sons were still at home (they’re 32 and 25, with their own families now), I’d make Tater Tot Casserole frequently. To mix it up a bit, I’d season the ground beef with taco seasoning and add a can of Rotel (drained) and a can of Nacho cheese soup. Top with the tots and cheese. Sooooo good! I’d do the same, but with a can of manwich sauce and a can of cheese soup. My kids are making these for their own families!

  • @hannakinn
    @hannakinn ปีที่แล้ว +3

    That comes out to $7.39 per casserole. Not sure how many servings each of those casseroles are for your family. It'll be really nice to have those frozen and ready to go, especially if you catch a cold, are feeling extra tired or if you're super busy or have to leave the guys on their own. The recipes looked good but I'd have to cut down on the salt due to kidney disease. I would've added ricotta or cottage cheese to the lasagna because either of those have to be in mine. These recipes will help inspire a lot of people. I used to do meal prepping on the weekend when my son was a teenager and I worked 2 and 3 jobs. It helped a lot. Even just having hamburger meat cooked with onions or cooked chicken breasts helped saved time cooking dinner when I was exhausted from work.

    I love tuna casserole. 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup, 1 can of milk, 1 cup of sour cream, 2 cans of undrained tuna, 1 can of drained sweet peas, and 2 cups of cheese of your choice. Mix it all together and layer the cheese, reserving enough cheese for top. Cover the reserved cheese mixed with 1/2 cup bread crumbs and bake for 40 minutes at 350 degrees. You can top it with sour cream as desired.

    $133÷18 casseroles is just under $7.39 per meal! Wow! Thats actually quite impressive to feed at least 4 with large portions and maybe 6-8 people with more reasonable portions. Less than $10 to feed an entire avg sized family for 1-2 nights even if you add a couple/few cans of veggies and bread and butter or garlic bread, if wanted, on the side!

    I love your channel. I am a grandma now, so past the stage of feeding a family very often. I appreciate how you create good food on a small budget. This is a skill our ancestors had to employ, and they did it well. My parents grew up poor in the hills of West Virginia, but because their moms were so good at stretching their food budget, they really didn’t know how truly poor they were. I love how you give dignity to the art of cooking frugally. I plan to make some of your casseroles and freeze them in smaller portions! 😊

      Anyone who feels Its too much can still break it down. Do half and you still get 9 days .Do more later in the month. I often just do 2 types . Like just a chili and a curry. But I make enough for 4 meals each. We eat 1 of each over 2 days and then I freeze the other 3 portions, one for each week of the month. On another day I might make another 2.

    Add mixed vegetables to your creamy stuffed chicken. It stretches it and taste good. More filling. I do this with can biscuits.

    You could poach the chicken in milk instead of boiling them in water... it helps to keep the smell down.. and you can add different seasoning to the milk.. and reuse the milk for the next batch of chicken if cooking a lot ..

    You did a great job! Not to be a downer, but the top shelf should not be filled to the top. You have to keep your items below the cooling vents in order for your freezer to work properly, otherwise you may burn up the motor. Good video.

    Hi Brooke this is Sue, WOW 155 for all that food, here in Canada that would be closer to double.... We not big fans of cassaroles, but the John Wayne and the tater tot ones look good, told hubby and he said we can try them. So yeah there a go, thanks. Only thing is l need to find some room in my stand up freezer,,, l need 2-3 of them, cause l love to bake and put stuff up.. Want to make a few up cause l am having shoulder surgery next week, and l want to make it as easy for hubby as possible since he works all day.. Thanks again,

    Yummy. I just mix it all together and bake it. My stepmother made this when were kids. But she would make it in a kettle and cook it til it looked like dog food. We still call it dog food😋

    They all look delicious. You did a good job face to make the ones with the rice. I’d have to put cauliflower rice and we don’t eat regular rice anymore but I bet it be just as good.

    • @yvonnepalmquist8676
      @yvonnepalmquist8676 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doesn't even have to be rice. You take cauliflower, broccoli, or a California blend, pulse it into smaller pieces instead of ricing it, or other veggies like sweet potatoes. They would all be yummy and just as nice and easy.

    I’m impressed that she shopped and made 18 casseroles for $133 and that she didn’t mess up her white shirt! Not one drop got one her! I’m also inspired to cook and learning many techniques. Go Southern Frugal Momma!

    Use masking tape for labeling it's cheap and easier to read also put date on piece so you know when it was made you can rotate it to be used before other things. Just helpful hint, I mean you could get fancy labels but not necessary masking tape and sharpie works just as good.
