  • In this video I live with my mustang while she's being tamed. I want to be able to halter her and lead her her out of the pen. She needs to trust me and learn to follow a feel in order todo this.

      Could you please explain why a wild horse like she is doesn't just kick you unconscious so she isn't disturbed in such a confined space by an unknown moving entity like you? Seriously....when will a wild horse attack and when not? Also, could you maybe explain at the beginning of your videos any terms lile "draw" that will be used in each video and that may not be familiar to non-trainers and non-owners who are watching? Or maybe post a glossary or a reference to one somewhere in the description area of your postings? Thanks very much for considering these questions and for your hard work to produce your wonderful channel.

    She really never stops thinking. Even when she’s startled, she resets to trying to think her way out of the situation rather than freaking out.

    She’s a good puzzle solver. She’s getting curious about you. It’s like she’s accepting her fate as she leaves the wild horse world and trying to figure out all this new foreign “stuff.” I think she’s a pretty smart girl. A keeper!!!

      Horses have huge energy field in comparison with animal size..is that why we are so drawn? I just love them all!!

    • @pattym.doolittle6038
      @pattym.doolittle6038 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Old style of “breaking” basically meant wearing down a horse until they basically gave up and did what you wanted. It put a lot of fear and stress on the horse, and sometimes used procedures that were actively painful. More modern approach means using understanding of horse body language and psychology. It uses “pressure” and “release” to get the horse to respond appropriately, as they learn to accept you as the “lead horse” and works to desensitize and build confidence, until the horse learns what you want them to do and is no longer fearful. When he is talking about horse behaviors like yawning, licking and chewing, those are behaviors that mean the horse is feeling a release of stress. Some folks take it as a sign of acceptance (like they have made learning progress).

      This was what struck me about her in the last (first) video. A lot of horses off the range are really terrified, and a hazard to themselves and others. This lovely lady is surprisingly calm. She’s a great horse, once she’s decided you’re trustworthy she’ll be amazing.

You are very fortunate that you got that horse it's a beautiful horse.

    There used to be a small independent soda pop company across the road from my house for the first 7 years my life. One of the ladies who worked there was the mother of a friend of my much older sister, and used to keep vanilla ice cream in the freezer and make me floats when I went over to see her. Your girl's coat reminds of the way the foam bubbled up when the root bear was added over the ice cream. Light on top, with the dark root beer below. We had a soda fountain in our business as well, that had Shasta soda in it, so when I was learning to talk, all sodas were Shasta to me. If I was naming your girl here, that is what I would name her... Shasta.

By no means do I wish to be rude or out of line in asking this but would it be at all possible to show us a little more of this process please? I could watch you all day Ryan.
    I love this horse. For her name I would pick Spice. She looks like cinnamon with powdered sugar sprinkled on top. I bet there is also going to be some hidden spices in her spirit. Just a pinch for good measure.

    Stunning video and amazing work. It's just so interesting watching her learn things for the first time. You'll have the perfect name, but I vote for Selene, the Greek Goddess of the Moon.

    She does seem to be getting a little hungry during this session. Maybe taking snack breaks may help her comfort level? I’m not a horse trainer but know they graze most of the time in the wild. Having a full stomach always makes us more agreeable, takes our stress level down.

    I had a filly, that I raised that was from the start very guarded of her face. I had to sell her at 6 months so I never got a chance to help her thru that. But every horse has something that they say nope to every time lol and for her it was her face. could care less where else I touched her. She would even lean into scratches but nope to the face and ears, could pick up all her feet and rasp them, brush her, put flysheets on her. But nothing around the face lol

    Hey Ryan, if you take on another project like this, with overnight camping and all, you might consider a hammock. Way better than a cot, and easily accommodates a mosquito(fly) net.
