- For decades Denmark has been a symbol of the Scandinavian model and has prided itself on its high standard of living, its excellent social welfare system and its open-mindedness towards minorities (particularly foreign communities). In 2019, the UN declared Denmark the happiest country in the world.
However, in the last couple of decades cracks have begun to appear in the Utopian model. The wave of immigrants arriving from the Middle East has stirred tensions. The state tracks down illegal migrants, men, women and children, and confines them to detention centers. The country’s latest project in dealing with arrivals has been to place them on an island.
Between a model of tolerance and an identity crisis, is Denmark becoming a nation of two minds?

Integration should be demanded 100% but assimilation should be a personal choice. When people move to another country they should follow its rules and laws and use its language in public life. But that doesn't mean they should forget their identity, customs, religion and language and assimilate into another society. If they want to, no problem with that, but that should not be a demand. Problems arise when masses of immigrants flood other countries and reject even to integrate let alone assimilate into their new home. That slowly leads to inevitable tensions and conflicts, not only from prejudice-fueled far-right but from ordinary people as well.

IDK, Globalism believes heavily in a Unified Culture where there IS no dominant national culture. Instead, embrace change, and if everyone's the same, eventually, culture will merge and as we all know culture is the main cause of conflict in the world. Has anybody heard the tale of the camel and the net? This guy traveling through the dessert with his camel finds himself in the middle of a sandstorm, so he sets up his tent and protects himself. A little while later, the camel asks him to please let him stick just its snot into the tent to breath. Although the tent is really small, the man feels pity and let's the animo stick his nose. A couple of minutes later, the animal asks the man to let him stick part of his head to protect its eyes, and again the man allows it, although he feels a bit uncomfortable due to space. And so the camel goes on sticking its ears, and neck, and front paws... till it is completely inside the tent, but because of the space, the man ends up out of the tent. This is exactly what is happening all over Europe and USA, but I hope there's still time to stop this.

Clash of cultures is a real thing. You cannot ignore or minimize major conflicting interests when attempting to integrate humans any more than with other animals. You cannot expect lions and lambs to ignore each other just because you think it would be NICE for them to GET ALONG. Most cultures have perpetual ideals that will not necessarily HARMONIZE. I’ve lived in Denmark (Copenhagen ) for a few years. My experience with the Danish is that they are very direct with their views on anything and everything, personally, I prefer it. Once, I was queuing at the passport security check at Kastrup airport, and I noticed a man was arguing with the security guards, he refused to unveil his wife’s burka to the officer at the passport checking desk because the officer was a man, the husband demanded a private room and the presence of a security woman for his wife to lift the veil, one of the security guards then said to the husband ‘We don't make difference between man and woman in this country, and because you are now on Danish soil, so you obey the danish law or you can take the next plane back home’. I must say, I was glad the security guards stick to their principles.
Think I might add Denmark to the countries I'd like to emigrate to if the UK gets much worse.

There was a similar documentary I watched on Denmark's issues with some Muslims about a year ago. One thing that came up was a local politician talking about how Muslim parents were demanding that schools stop serving pork dishes in their cafeterias because they didn't want their children even in the same room as pork. The politician said that, that was pretty much the last straw for him and made him heavily against any more Muslim immigrants. He was disgusted that they were basically guests of Denmark and they had the nerve to demand that the Danish change their lifestyles and customs to accommodate them.
To some Muslims their religion is first priority and they have this entitled attitude to demand special treatment . That's how they create their own land . First they come as refugee or nice immigrant then demand separate laws and rules for them . They think they are above others and most holy people just because they are following Islam . The radical Muslims have supremacist attitude . They think only only their religion matters and only Muslims are humans rest are sub humans . Their goal is to spread Islam and dominate the world .

This is one thing I support from my heart, if our political leaders had balls, we would have done this in place of dividing our country for the sake of Islam and then allowing the non willing muslims to stay back and give them special communal reservations, labelling them deprived. I’m an African immigrant who’s lived 10+ years in the USA. If you don’t wanna assimilate to the culture of the country you’re immigrating to why the fuck do you wanna move there in the first place? Why not immigrate to a country which is more aligned to your liking? Yes, immigrants should have the right to practice their religion and be proud of their culture and background, but they shouldn’t immigrate to the country with ulterior agenda to change the entire structure of the country to fit their religious and cultural ideology. If you immigrate to another country, it’s a courtesy & responsibility to share their values, principles, history and constitution. You should be able to participate in elections to bring about changes you want to see once you are granted citizenship. Don’t immigrate to another country if all you wanna do is only live and interact within a community of people from your native country/culture/religion and are not willing to accept that people have the right to choose how they wanna live as long as they abide by the laws of the country. If you feel you’re better than the people of the country which accepted you because you’re a follower of a certain religion/culture/identity, don’t come to a democratic country. I know damn well my native country wouldn’t want Europeans moving there and try to change their culture because they feel that theirs is better or righteous (it’s happened in the past but definitely not at this day and age). Even me, I wouldn’t accept that happening to my native country. But I also didn’t come here to seclude myself from the mainstream culture, principles and values of America. Yes, I will participate in elections to influence changes I want to see but that’s it. I didn’t come here to change the essence of what America is because it’s that essence I love about this country. The problem is there are many immigrants who go to other countries simply due to financial reasons. If you do not accept that you or your offsprings will eventually assimilate to the culture of the country you’re immigrating to while still being proud of your heritage, then move to a country where you’re culturally and religiously aligned with, simple! But this does not mean I condone racist & xenophobic behavior

Yes, you can dislike the politics and politicians but if you hate the country which brought you out of war/violence/struggle, provided you resources to build a new life and make something of yourself and your children, then you’re a fucking pest/leech. I’m proud of who I am and where I’m from. I love my African heritage and culture, but that shouldn’t stop me from embracing the culture of my new home. After all, whether you like it or not in 3-4 generations it’s inevitable your off-springs and theirs to come will be assimilated to the culture.

it’s honestly crazy to think that supporting and encouraging the survival of the culture, heritage, and customs of the native population of a place is seen as bigoted and racist, as opposed to something to be proud of. The countries without nationalism are the countries that are failing or will fail no matter how rich they are. Cultural and national identity is what unites us. We can all practice whatever religion we want privately. Assimilation is key to peace and unity.
Being “far right” means you want to maintain your culture and heritage. But you’re not far right if you’re a muslim leaving your country and refusing to accept the culture of the country you are living in. Denmark is doing a good job
