    HOW TO: M113/M112 hydraulic lifter how do the work?
    The hydraulic lifters, almost never fail. But the can get damaged or stuck, this will most of the time start with knocking sound on a cold engine. And the warmer the oil gets the sound will go away. This is the point the lifter is loosing oil or can not keep the pressure inside.
    Most of the time this has to do with dirty oil. Or not enough maintenance or changing the oil.
    There are 2 types of element where only the bottom part. where the check valve is in. Is different. The exhaust lifter has a small hole and the intake lifter has a big hole. It is very easy to see.
    For a complete V8 there are 8 exhaust lifters and 16 intake lifters.
    When removing the lifter or removing the camshaft bearing bridge it is important to reset the lifter. This needed because when the camshaft bearing bridge is reinstalled. There is a possibilty the lifter is adjusted to much so it will keep open the valve when it needs to be fully closed
    When the lifter is removed. it can be split in 3 parts. Top and bottom and a spring. You can also take the check valve apart. But i don't recommend doing this because it has very small parts. and it is not really needed because it can be tested very easy. without removing. see video.
    So if there are any questions left after seeing the video just ask

    Hi, can i fix the lifter without clips ?

    Is there anyway of cleaning these hydraulic lifters without removing them? Perhaps using additives is what i am trying to say.

    Very nice, I will be doing this to my 5.4 m113. So when putting the lifters back together I basically try to push it in as much as possible ? Also when installing them into the arms would is any oil necessary?

      When the are clean oil them and put them back together and release the checkvalve so you can push it in complete into the spring pressure. Then release it. There will a little air in it. But on the first start you will here some valve noise but when the oil flow is going up to the cylinder head the will fill up the lifters to the right amount to fill up the clearance

    My ml55 has a misfire issue on bank 1 with multiple misfires usualy on 2 or 3 cylinders (TWC misfire damages etc in the computer codes). iv been chasing my tail thinking it was something electrial or electronic and have replaced everything new from sparkplugs and coils ign leads and deleted all cats. I dont hear any real lifter tick but the car does sit for periods and then when I go to start it sometimes it does this misfire issue. I shut it down and restart and its ALWAYS fine for the rest of the day it never does it again only on random cold starts usually after it sits for a little while.... Im wondering if I need to tear into the the head and inspect clean all these lifters?? The lifters/roller rockers are probably due for an inspection anyway at 210+kms. I hear if the roller rockers can jiggle sideways due to their alloy construction on the stainless steel round bars then they can leak oil and not pressure the lifter properly.... thats what im suspecting now. Multiple things I probably need to carefully check in there?.....

      If the engine is using oil on these cylinders more then the can be more sensitive. To knock also. Did you boroscope the cylinders to see if the walls are clean?

      @@JMSpeedshop ok will do that and see. I noticed knock at overrun on the knock sensor when WOT full pull right up to high rpm its odd tho because it only shows knock counts on my scanner when the throttle is let off or between gears. But the thing runs fairly strong and doesnt use any oil or smoke..... I pulled a trailer loaded with an w211 e55 amg across country over massive long gradient pulls up mountains and it never missed a beat and was strong. Again it only misfires on cold start and once you turn it off and on again it will never do it again for the rest of that day.

    Hello, should i put oil in rocker arms before installing new lifters? Ty

      Hydraulic lifters just s drop of oil. The rest just need to be lubricated when putting to getter

    Hi. My M112 has lifter noise on start up, goes away in about 15 secs. How would I tell which one it is? thanks

    • @JMSpeedshop

      That is hard . But you can determine which side . But exact which cilinder is hard

      Do it together with a buddy. Let them start and you can listen under the hood which side it is

    • @JMSpeedshop
      @JMSpeedshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would deside which side it is . If you want to remove the lifters . You need to remove the camshaft bearingbride complete. The you can can all the lifters out on that side and check them like i did in the video and chance the bad ones

    Have intake lifter that don't get fully pressurised. M113k took it out know 3 times. Starting to think it my be oil pressure. Will be checking oil pressure next. At first found soft lifter on cylinder 5 first intake. Replaced still was noisy opened up 2nd time same just new lifter on same rocker arm. But this time lifter checker valve was broken. So replaced rocker arm and lifter. All lifter on that side now is brand new. Still noisy. Opened 3rd time now on cylinder 7 intake lifter soft. Took it out all good nothing broken lifter working as should. Washed intake shaft used air to blow out. Put to gether still noise. Still one lifter not fully pressurised. All problems on same side intake side. Any suggestions?
    Thank you

      Can be a oil supply problem but then you should pull the head and clean all oil passage's.

      @@JMSpeedshopthanks, still waiting for oil pressure adapter. Hope solution will be clogged pump. Or o ring on it so sucking air with oil.

    • @JMSpeedshop
      @JMSpeedshop  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You would expect it to be blocked in the most narrow space so in the camshaft bearing bridge entrance passage

    • @domasbartusevicius4218
      @domasbartusevicius4218 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JMSpeedshop and to clean it only head has to come of. Or should try some oil flush and additives? Or take bridge of and try to blow passages, but it probably will get stuck again or somewhere else. As once it started ticking I used some engine flush and lifter additives and it went away, but later came back. Thanks

      @@JMSpeedshopit makes sense, as oil entrance passage is shared for exhaust and intake. As same port from head to camshaft bridge. As exhaust side running good means oil is coming to it, so blocked should be passage to intake side just or at intake shaft. Thank you.
