    Hi Ray, I am Dwayne's wife. I wanted to thank you for telling Dwayne's story of why he hikes. I can't tell you how much I appreciate that you call him a friend. Your kindness and sincerity are rare qualities. You've achieved in being a good human. ❤

    I'm a woman - just turned 59 last week. I began to feel an urgency to 'live' my life after a long, dark spiral. For months now I just take it easy. Slow and one step in front of the other. I remembered how the outdoors used to call to me. I live just less than a mile from a beautiful trailhead which has become my favorite place to go almost daily. Today was a beautiful hike in some rain and wind. I loved every single minute of it. I feel loss at the dark, stuck years passed but so grateful right now, that the wind and rain and dirt and mud are a part of my life again. It has re-enriched my spirit and life on every level. I'm getting stronger every day. It's never too late! Start slowly and enjoy yourself! You might just surprise yourself. I know I have! xo

    I want to encourage everyone here, young or old, that if there is a will, there is a way! There are hiking meet up groups, people who share your passion - or just want to do something fun together, and others that are willing to help challenge you! It's taking that first step - and that might simply be in your own neighborhood! What I love is that hiking doesn't really cost you much of anything except to put on your shoes and start walking! The rest will come! Thanks Ray for inspiring others to to take that fist step!

      Maureen, thank you. You helped me figure out a way to transfer media so I could share other stories. I think your videos turned out really well. The sound and video quality was excellent. Please thank Natalie and Heather for me. It looks like you had a heck of a trip. I know you and I love the fact that younger backpackers seem to enjoy taking us along. Today I hiked again with my 30-something-year-old friends, and I kept grinning the whole way up the mountain. Can't wait to hear about your next adventure. Keep inspiring...

    Thank you AK & contributor to this special video. I'm an older hiker who loved getting out on the trail in my youth. My life for many reasons diverted me from that place I loved & miss. I'm recently retired & trying to come back home to the trails to the backcountry. You are all an inspiration to help with my journey. Thank you so much!!!

      Thank you. That's what this channel is about. If you watch the episode about Maureen, she has some excellent advice. Your story sounds similar to hers, so maybe it will help. As I get older, every morning I wake up still healthy to hike and backpack strengthens my resolve to not waste the day. I wish you luck and please let me know if I can help.

    I've thought about this recently. One summary of what backpacking is to me is "Exercise in a beautiful place". Also, something I seek is "Solitude in Nature". Thanks, a great topic for backpackers!

    Thank you for this nice inspiring video! I wish I had more trails close to me; getting there is challenging for now since I don't have a car and not much money. But when I get in some woods, all my body says thanks. From Quebec, Can.

    Good Video! I agree, get outside for healing, to leave the busy world behind. People would ask me why I would get off work and climb on a tractor and work for hours. I would say I'm plowing my troubles under. Whether it be on my farm or enjoying the outdoors elsewhere, it's good for the soul.

    • @akwild1
      @akwild1  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly. You get to plow your troubles into the ground and they sprout something delicious. That's pretty amazing. Thanks for commenting.

    Good video. I tried to respond to your question on that older Alta skier on another one of your videos but TH-cam kept giving me 400 errors. His name was George Jedenoff. The last video I seen by him he was 101 and still skiing. In your long shake down bike ride you mentioned you were feeling a bit more tired and the ride took it to you. Well I am 64 and in way above average shape, I am a gym rat, ski and bike a lot and do a lot of long distance backpacking trips. I train with my fully loaded back all time. This all said sometimes for no reason I really do feel my age. Thankfully I usually feel fine but I try and focus on what I can do and not what I can’t do anymore. Take care

    • @akwild1
      @akwild1  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your perseverance and for letting me know the name of the gentleman. What beat me up on the bike ride was breaking through the slush and mud. I wiped out three time on the way back. Today, I snowshoed 2000 feet up a mountain, and on the way back the weather warmed and we post-holed most of the way down. The ending drone videos of next week's video are from that trip. Now I look at those bad trips as building resilience that will help me get through future mis-adventures. I love your second to last sentences. It's advice we shall heed as we grow older. Thank you.
