  • This video details a lens that's missing in many Canon photographers bags! The Canon 10-18MM STM ultra wide angle lens. It's an excellent lens for indoor shooting, as well as landscapes and architecture. In this video, I explain why it filled a whole in my arsenal, as well as showcase sample video and images taken with the 10-18mm lens. It also has an appealing price point, with an MSRP of around $300. Check below for direct links to the best deals that I have found:
    New: amzn.to/419rW8O
    Save a few $ with the refurbished model:
    Refurbished: amzn.to/4abwBLu
    I also go over the pancake 24MM Wide Angle fixed lens, which you can find here:
    amzn.to/3Gwnjw3
    Lastly, if you have a Canon R series Body (like my EOS R50), the adapter that I have shown is the Canon EF to EOS R adapter:
    amzn.to/4a0wi6a
    These are affiliate links, and as an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
    The Canon 10-18mm will work with nearly every Canon APSC DSLR camera made, like the Canon Rebel XS XSi XT XTi T1i T2i T3 T3i T4 T4i T5 T5i T6 T6i T7 T7i T8i, as well as the 20D 30D 40D 50D 60D 70D 80D 90D DSLR Camera Bodies. If your Canon body has the EF EF-S white square on the body mount , it means that it's compatible with this lens. Also, with the Canon EF to EOS R adapter you can utilize with quite a few Canon EOS R bodies like the EOS R10 R50 R100 Mirrorless cameras, and get into an ultrawide lens at an affordable price point.

    A mo9st enjoyable review! I have an R8 (full frame) with the Canon RF primes (16, 28, 35, 50, 85 and the RF 24-105 and 100-400). But seven lenses is a bit of a kit to lug around although I love the results. But I usually think hard on what I am shooting and just select 2 or 3 lenses.
    BUT BUT BUT I also have an R10 and got, for budget sake and knowing their quality from my dslr days, the 10-18, 18-35 and 55-250, all in excellent condition used with a 6 month warranty. This allows me to have 3 lenses that span an equivalent focal length on the ASP-C sensor of 16-400mm. And I also love the results. For critical shooting yes, the R8 will be my choice but for everyday having a blast with photography I'll that that 3 lens R10 kit! Nice thing too is I just leave the EF-RF adapter on the body.

    A good budget alternative to this Canon lens is the Tamron 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 di ii. This was the first wide zoom I bought for my Nikon D3200 many years ago and is also availible for Canons EF mount. Sells for around $100US used depending on condition but very cheap for the focal range it can give APSC DSLR's 😋

    • @pricklypearcamera
      @pricklypearcamera  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Quite true! I have used and sold this Tamron quite a bit over the years, solid build, only real downfall is it tends to "hunt" quite a bit in AF leaving a bit to be desired, but for the price, it's a great pick, and has good glass!

      @@pricklypearcamera Something similar to an old film lens a 70 to 300 sigma I used on my D7000 but for the Cannon. I am guessing it was giving me a bit more than 300 due to crop. BTW several friends use that 9.25 glass dome port that shoot pro. ( not sure if it's used on the Nikon 9 Aquatics housing that my friend just switched to though)

    4:30, I was confused by what you said. You are putting that crop sensor lens on a crop sensor mirrorless camera, so the crop factor is the same. You sort of made it sound like the EOS R50 is not already a crop sensor.

    I understand this lens is not weather sealed. I live in Miami Florida and I'm plannimg to use this lens outdoors which is humid most of the times. Does any of you have had experience with humidity getting inside this lens ?

    • @pricklypearcamera
      @pricklypearcamera  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct, it's not. I haven't personally seen to many issues with fog or moisture inside of this particular 10-18mm lens, and I have bought and sold many from the east/southeast in humid conditions.

    • @pricklypearcamera
      @pricklypearcamera  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The filter attachment on the lens itself is 67MM, but if you were talking about the Canon adapter, the part name is "mount adapter EF-EOS R", made for EOS R bodies to use EF lenses with.

      I have the R10 and I did the exact same thing. Just got the 10-18 STM to compliment my EF-S 18-135 STM and my 55-250 STM. Nice thing is I got all three online (with a 6 month warranty) fora bit under $500. So with the ASP-C sensor of the R10 I have a fairly lightweight kit that seamlessly covers an equivalent field of view of 16mm - 400mm. These three lenses have better IQ than one should expect and, with the exception of having slower apertures, can indeed create truly professional results. Now I don't do video but this seems an ideal video lens as well, especially because of Canon's excellent Image Stabilization built into the lens.
      I feel the superior imaging and autofocus of the R10 over ASP-C DSLRs breathes new like into these lenses. I love just leaving the EF/EF-S-RF adapter on the body. Most convenient.
      I DO have the R8 as well with a suite of RF primes (16, 28, 35, 50, 85 as well as 24-105 and 100-400). But for day to day shooting with minimal fuss the R10 with 10-18, 18-135 and 55-250 is a lightweight super versatile kit for my 73 year old body to handle!

      If you are shooting sports, a few lenses I really like at staggered price points are the Canon 55-250MM STM lens that's a nice fast affordable lens at around $200, I also like the Sigma 150-600mm lens that's a big lens with excellent range, but price point is in the $800-1000 range.

      Not at all. These Canon EF-S lenses are a real bargain and still relevant today, especially with the Canon ASP-C mirrorless R Series bodies. I have the 10-18, 18-135 and 55-250 (all STM) and they are excellent on my R10 body. As a bonus all have Image Stabilization. (I have the R8 with a suite of RF primes as well but the R10 with these 3 EF-S lenses is a fantastic lightweight and versatile kit for a hell of a lot less $$$.)
