One other important thing about airplants is they need air movement around the plant. This allows the plant to dry quicker to prevent rot. Great video
Yes, you are absolutely right. Thank you so much 💜🪴
Thank you so much! I'm pretty new to plant care and now I know what I was doing wrong with my bromelia. It bloomed with one flower and now it started dying slowly, so I was really worried. I did everything wrong, but now I will not repeat my mistakes. Once again: thank you! ❤
Hey Magdalena, thank you so much for watching! I am so happy it was useful. I have overwatered mine. The world of plants is amazing and I learn about plants every day. 💜
My Tillandsia started growing flower buds and I was very excited, but all but one have completely dried out and died. Spraying it with water once a day is not enough - the flowers were the healthiest when they got more water, but in the beginning I was afraid of spraying them too much. I now only have one healthy flower bud left and I'm really hoping to see it bloom.
I've started using a room humidifier but I will also be moving the plant from sunlight, since I think that might be a factor as well. At first I placed it near my window, because I read that the more sunlight it gets, the better chance it has of successful propagation, but based on the brown spots on its leaves I think it might be getting burnt.
I'm so sad that I messed up, 4/5 flower buds have dried up, only one has the potential of flowering.
It would make my whole year if it blooms, so do you have any tips on making sure it doesn't die too?
Thank you so much! 😁
This type of Tillandsias, they grow in a little bit of soil, and you can normally water them (on the soil, not only spray). Spraying will not be enough for this type. You can also pour water between the leaves, just in the middle. Hope it helps. I may be dehydrated
Thank you so much, you are amazing! I am in an exactly the same situation here and I was desperately trying to find out what to do! Thanks to you, I now even know the proper name of this plant, because everywhere it was just saying 'bromelia/bromeliad'. My 'mother-plant' is in a stage of dying now, it was giving beautiful flowers (very very similar to your plant). I can see there are two pups, now I watched how you separate them and will do the same with mine! I checked some of your other videos, funny enough but I have absolutely the same lavender pot, I am based in England though! :)
Thanks a lot for such a sweet comment :) I am so happy you liked it and I could help with your plant. I hope your pups will grow into beautiful plants and grow soon :) Please let me know how they are doing.
It's funny about the lavender pot :)🌸🌼🌺
Did you “pups” almost look pinkish? I think my mother plant has one starting!
thank you so much for such an informative video
Thanks for watching and I am happy you liked it
Really glad I found this video. I was having trouble finding someone that will show us what size the pup should in order to replant it and even how to replant it. Is there a video or picture that shows how this one turned out? I really like that pot, is it good for pink quills? How do I find it?
The pup was growing fine for a while, but then I overwatered it and it got rotten :(
@@AnnasViolets Oh, I'm sorry to hear ☹️ We try to give them the best chance at life. Mine is growing 2 very new pups, I really want to keep it alive because my husband and I bought it on our honeymoon vacation, so I'm nervous for it!
Oh, yes, I totally relate to it. They are all special, but some have even more emotional meaning for us. It's really important that they grow as much as possible on the mother plant. When the mother plant dies early, the pups really struggle
Thank you!! I'll try hard to keep her alive!
Mine bloomed and didn't die....its got 8 big pups now....its in soil for succulents...lots of clay pebbles at the bottom and perlite mixed in 🤷♂️
That's amazing :)
This is one of the only plant of all epiphytes I don't have!! And being in the Florida Keys that's kinda crazy, bc they're everywhere, but I have stayed to orchids and airplants, and dessert roses...and lots of succulents. I love this video, very straightforward and easy to understand 🤗 happy planting Anna!🌱💚✌
Thank you so much. Btw, please let me know when you have some air plants seeds. I would love to buy some. :)
Is it possible to water propagate the pups? Thank you for the great quality video.
A curiosity ... but doing your same procedure after it has already bloomed once, does the central pink flower grow back in this way? Or does it just die after it blooms and the plant no longer lives?
Hey Sara, every plant blooms just once, then it dies, which can take months and even a year. The pups will grow and bloom again just once. :)
You should do an update on this!
Unfortunately, the pup got rotten too. Overwatered it :(
One of the purple flowers is stuck and wont bloom, any tips on what to do? (The purple flowers usually bloom in about 10 hours, but this one has been stuck for 3 days now and I'm worried)
Hey, I don't really know the reason for that. But I wouldn't do anything
Just got this plant for bday
Happy Birthday! It's an amazing plant. 💜🪴
How long does it take for a pup to grow from small to flowering?
It really depends, but I would say 1-2 years

Im new about tilandsia, I collect one by one, but why this one need media to grow? Usually just hanging is ok
Hi Nofia. This variety has longer roots
Is it possible to grow without media, I did wrong by cutting the roots:-(
I just separated 2 pups from most of the roots. I thought they were airplanes so i soaked them in water and airdrying at the moment. 😢
I have a tillandsia too,it has a lot of flowers but the roots are look like rotten and the flowers has not give plant what should I do? I mean the roots didn't grow up
(Sorry for my bad English)
Hey Lara, don't worry about English, it's not my native language either. ;) Usually they have tiny roots, they are epiphytes. The mother plant will die maybe 6 months or even 1 year after flowering. So, there is still enough time to produce babies. If you mean that the base of the plant is rotten, you should remove all rotten roots and leaves and see if there is a chance to save it. Often, it's very hard to save them, if they rot, as the base is very thin, and there is not much to cut off.
@@AnnasViolets sorry I didn't see the comment, thank you very much.
@@laraarikan8523 you are welcome 🌸
Is this the same of tilandsia tricolor ?
From what I saw, T. Tricolor has a different flower. I think it's a different variety.
@@AnnasViolets ok, can cyanea grow up in air media like other thilandsia?
Did you save it? How’s it looking now?
No, I didn't save it. It had root rot :(
@@AnnasViolets sorry for you mine too couldn't save it
@@dvorakhh6269 thanks. Yeah, we need to be careful with watering, it's very easy to overwater them
Yeah, you are right. Watering more than needed for just one time, and it can easily get rotten
Does the plant have to be in soil...some of my friends said its an air plant...
It's from the same family as the air plants - the Bromeliads. The air plants live without soil and will even get rotten in soil. However, this variety of Tillandsia grow in a tiny portion of soil. Note: Some of air plants are also Tillandsias, you can see more photos of them on my Facebook here: facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1377239619114054&type=3
Thank you for the info..
You are welcome 😊

I don’t think it’s a good idea to recommend peat as a potting medium. Everything else was great!
Hey Kathleen, thanks for your comment.🤗 What potting mix do you use? It will be great to learn from your experience.
But not all bromeliads are epiphytes .
Yes, there are many varieties. Do you know which ones are not?
Update please
The pup died. I overwatered it :(

They are not from the family of bromeliads. Be specific with the data that you provide. It is came from the family of bromeliacea. Thanks me later.
It's the same. Here is just the first source for you to read: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallisia_cyanea Have a nice day. And the correct spelling is BromeliaceaE.
No. you are absolutely wrong, Bromeliads is a Genus only and the what do we called Bromeliaceae is a Family rank. Please study hard on the scientific classification of it. Your content is misleading against science.
Please pardon me but as a botanist here in the Philippines madam, I am so meticulously specific on every single matter on this area of my choosen field. Thank you.
@@chupacabra7189 Have a nice day. I'll read more about it.
@@chupacabra7189 I'm glad to see you are so passionate about Tillandsias. Thank you for your comment.
What a boring commentary-you kept repeating yourself so many times, it could be half the length, so o had to turn this video off
No worries. Have a nice day.
