It's hard for people like him to spend money because of all the "0's" in his bank account.
It's hard for me to spend money because of the one "0" in mine....
    Two different worlds.

It's okay, the UK government is spending 10% of my money a year through inflation and another 50% through taxation.

Or... Because we are accumulating it for retirement... Because we aren't instant gratification anymore.
Retirement is the goal. Not at an age, but at the point of financial freedom.

He covers that really well, in his book. In UK, average age ppl receive inheritance is 61..average age, someone buys their first house is 36. Most people actually inherit money 25yrs after they actually need it, and most parents aren't being generous when they leave money in their will... As u can't be generous when you're dead. If you want to be generous, give it away while you're still alive and when ur kids will most value it (not all of it, but a good portion of it). That's the what of what he covers on the "future generation" point. It's an outstanding book btw... Interesting even if u don't agree with it all

  • @petor95

Imho invest>spend if you care about your kids / future generations.
Money can fulfill needs. True. But should we spend it to fulfil our needs or invest it to fulfil the world's?
There are alot of problems to fix. Mass consumerism without direction might not fix them.

Also if you hate your job, you covet your money more. You worked seemingly harder for it, and it hurts to let it go. IT'S A TRAP. INVEST IN YOURSELF. BREAK THE CYCLE

Thats because we had no bills or responsibilities as a kid. Experience of hard times teaches why money is important. When things get bad... your going to need it.

Some of us need to save up for things we need.
It’s the opposite. It’s difficult to not spend money.

  • @joaddonnelly8228

This seems to be coming from the perspective of someone who has only connected money with material things or things like vacation/experiences and it can be so much more than that. Example, having some zeros saved up can give one the incredible sense of freedom, options, opportunities and choices. Some materialistic things may be able to do this to a degree but typically not in such a broad way.
Money is not simply a finite, logical thing, it is hugely emotional as well. I find a lot of similarities between money and religion when thinking about money on a bit deeper level.

Milton Friedman explained it well. There are 4 types of spending. When you spend your money on yourself, you don't overspend and only get what is necessary.

That’s not the main reason. The main reason is that unspent money has more potential than any spent money does. To spend money on any one thing is to not spend it on the 99 other things you might enjoy. And sometimes, our brain has issues with that. Are we adding up the value of everything unchosen, rather than taking the next best option? Are we struggling with the fear that we won’t choose the best option? Something else entirely? Hard to say.

People are so negative in their comments. I’d say read his book first and then come back to comment.
