Nice to see you fishing the canal rather than the footpath this time 😂 enjoying your vids 👍

Thanks for another great video. Quick question. When fishing ultralight on the canal, do you get any issues with bite offs from pike or do you sometimes use light wire traces?

Thanks very much. Shame I couldn't really find the fish but then I guess that's how fishing goes sometimes.
Personally since ultralight fishing I have only been bitten off once by a pike. I find that most of the hook-ups always seems to end up right in the corner of the mouth. We don't get plagued with pike, although we always keep a selection of wire traces in the bag just in case. Naturally if we were targeting pike on a heavier setup then a wire trace would always be used 👍

It always seemed like an odd method to me, hopping a stick worm vertically across the bottom, but it obviously works and they've even created a specific jig head for the method I see

I really enjoy this method of fishing and have managed to catch most of my big perch by slowing hopping a creature bait across the bottom. With a Zman buoyant lure the ned heads seem to work very well. I find that the perch normally hit it when the lure becomes static. I want to try the TRD stick baits more as I have seen some nice fish caught on them. I guess to a predator it looks like a small fish feeding on the bottom.

I had one of those days yesterday. 5 tiny perch in 4 hours. They just weren't having it.
Do you ever use the cheb rig along the bottom like a ned? Feel like the free movement of the cheb makes it a better option.

I do use the cheb a fair bit but I have never used it with a buoyant lure yet. Keep meaning to as like you say the movement would be very good.
Yes, it's strange how one day in bright conditions they will still feed, yet on another, it can be a totally different story. Guess that's what keeps us going back though 😊
