    There are plenty of Solovair and Dr Marten boots that don't use the shiny coated leathers.
    Solovair especially use a lot of waxy and "crazy horse" leathers and I personally have owned a couple of pairs of their boots made from Horween chromexcel leather ( I still own one pair).
    Goral were originally located in Poland hence the 80 year history. They're well known for their high quality trainers. I considered a pair of their Whitely boots but owning a pair of their trainers find the toe box a little restricted. The Whitely are made on the same last and this would be more of a problem with their boots with thicker socks etc. I might try a "G" width one day but have thin feet apart from the spreading toes. I see the Sharman are made on a different last which is good and shows they're expanding.

    Get Tricker's Buford if you want a quality English made black boot.

    I just pulled the trigger on a Goral shoe (not this boot) out of all the non-doc alternatives, Goral is the only viable option for me as I need a wide size shoe, and solovair does not offer it. I'm tempted by the Sharman, I've never owned a doc style boot.

    Polish company. Originally from outside Krakow. Goral means "mountaineer".

      @@DevonReviewer I would say it's more a "higlander". In Polish a mountain is spelt "góra" and a person from the mountains is called a "góral". The Polish high mountains called Tatry are located just south of Cracov with the centally located city of Zakopane.

      Goral is the owners surname, has nothing to do with Polish Gorals.

    I like my MIE Docs and Solovair boots, as well as heritage boots.
    I’ve heard of Goral before. While I acknowledge that the quality is likely superior to Doc Martens or Solovair, I’m not sure I could like the looks as much. If I want a better quality British boot with a style I like, I think I’d spend more and get something from Trickers’s or Loake. But aesthetics are a personal taste, and maybe it’s not entirely fair. Doc Martens and Tricker’s do have classic styles that people have grown to love over time. Goral are relatively new as a brand if I’m correct.

    • @DevonReviewer
      @DevonReviewer  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep, they are pretty new and doing things differently, I think they are fairly open in acknowledging the inspiration for these!

      For info, Loake do the Niro boot which is similar construction to Doc Martens with PVC cushioned soles and several leather types including a shiny coated leather, a nubuck and an oiled leather. They are Goodyear welted so re-soleable by any cobbler (unlike Doc Martens).

      Same! Got mine in horween natural and am really impressed with the quality. Just know they're going to age really nicely. I also was up at Gorals Sheffield factory for a sample sale last weekend. Theyre a really nice team and definitely know their stuff. Love how they blend what are traditionally more formal styles and make really unique sneakers. Look forward to seeing what they come up with next!

    I believe the quality of these boots is superior, as you show in the video. but i dont like the look of them. combining looks and quality, i choose solovair

  • @UncleChoppy
    @UncleChoppy 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I quite like the look of these, particularly in the natural Horween. I have a problem with DMs and Solovair in that I have quite skinny ankles (despite being fat!) and the eight hole boots are a bit loose, even when fully tightened at the top lace holes. I've always wanted to find something similar in design that fit me better and they seem to be much more "open" in the upper lacing on your video, which leads me to think they might be better for me.
    While I agree with the comments below about Trickers being a great boot but they're around twice the cost of these at current retail prices so the Gorals seem around the right ballpark for a boot of this style with superior leather to the DMs. They are a similar price to RedWing or Fracap and, hopefully, similar quality.

    • @DevonReviewer
      @DevonReviewer  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They are very nicely made, and having spent my first full day in them today, incredibly easy to break in! I get what you mean with DM / Solovair, I have definitely had them were the leather met over the tongue.. the Goral might be good for you!

  • @teresaravenshaw5477

    They look great, but I feel like they might be a bit too fancy for my job. Maybe I'll get a pair of Solovairs now and down the line throw down for a Goral pair for "best".

    I heard Stridewise saying they were 💩I don’t really understand why, certainly they’re not easy to recraft and not gyw, but they look alright to me

      Agree they really need to go back to Goral for resole.. I try not to watch others reviews, at least until I have done mine... I cant find the Stridewise one... do you have a link or title?

    just dont really like them from a style point of view. solovair look cool and you get around 1,500 miles per pair id say. not bad for 180 quid.

    G'day mate,
    Interested to know your opinion on sizing, I wear a UK11 in the Solovair Gibson Shoes. I would love to know if they fit similar To Solovairs's. These look really nice and have a slightly different look to similar style boots, which makes it appealing to me.
    Cheers

    This is like when you had that one friend at school who wanted Rockports, but his mum got kickers instead. Goral look weird, and to be honest Solovairs or Gripfast are the best one around for the price vs quality. Made in England and keeping jobs in Britain. I'll pass

    You can not beet the look of docs. These look nothing like them and very expensive too for what they are. Solovair and docs for me. Also, the Blake stitch is weaker then the goodyear welt stitch. Just my opinion, but thanks for the video. 👍

    • @DevonReviewer
      @DevonReviewer  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I will withhold judgement on the blake stitch, these are the first boots I have had with it.. Whilst I have yet to have first hand experience, I am not sure that strength is a matter all agree on and there are factors people pick the Blake over GYW for; comfort, weight and aesthetic.. I will report back!

      The blake stitch is on the inside is just keeping the insole e the upper together. The cup stole stitch is called a side stitch.
