    That sure is a beautiful area! I had a friend from here in Pa. that moved to Salmon after he got out of the military but after some time there he moved to Alaska for better financial opportunities. He would always come back to Salmon to hunt elk with his friends and bought a few acres of property in Leadore where he had planned to build a home for his retirement but ended up dying of cancer in Alaska at age 55.

    If ya end up in the hoosegow down in that corner of Montana, lemme know, my Grandson is a deputy in that county (Beaverhead Co?), mebbe we can git ya sprung.
    Always wanted to make that drive over from Red Rock to Leadore, but was always pressed for time back then. Only had so much on my pass to get from Great Falls (Malmstrom Airplane Patch), and family in Blackfoot.
    The third way to get to Dell from Salmon is to head south till you hit 15, then hook north, but You know that.
    When I was a kid, we was shufflin along a foot trail on the Henry's Fork just downstream from Big Springs. Somethin caught my eye, and it was a 58 caliber Minie ball, withrifling engraving on the skirt. Only folks I know of used that kind of ordnance was Joseph's band tryin' to stay ahead of the "volunteers" that had been chasin' them since runnin' em out o their homes in the Willamette. Sad, sad tale.....

      @MuskratOutdoors Some of the warriors hung behind the main band as they made their way into Yellowstone National Park, and fought holding actions and skirmish all along that trail. They even took some Park visitors hostage, but released them. After that, they made their run north, trying to make the Canadian border, but got held up by weather, and mauled by the Army just shy of the border, where Joseph finally surrendered.

The business district consists of one place called the Bright Spot. A book was written about it. Anyway, one day we stopped in there and a guy had two coyote cross dogs, an older one and a pup. They would sing along as he and his wife sang and played. It was hilarious. You just can’t get that in the big city! Thanks for taking us along on your trip. Nice to see all the elk!

    Interesting ride - I enjoyed that. Those elk sure weren't skittish like most around here. Good ole haystacker - not many left anymore. It's good you got a shot of one that nice. In a hundred years this video will be a history channel.
    Plus, I enjoyed reading Glenn's (Alderspring Ranch) blog this morning talking about a guy named Muskrat that gave him a beaver. It was a nice writeup.
    Our youngest son and all our grandkids just moved to Missoula. We will be visiting them next summer and I told the Mrs we would have to go through Salmon and take a gander at those mountains where Muskrat roots around in.

      Very neat! Did you know Viola? The lady that owned the store? She died a few years ago, but made it to 100 years old, maybe a little more?

    • @ds948
      @ds948 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I sure did! I will tell you a story, I was five years old and we had went to the store and I stuck my hand through the glass top of the braok candy boxes ( sorry for spelling on the brauck candy) a hole had been Brock in the top of the glass and it cut my hand when I pulled the hand full of chocolates through the hole I went out and got on the sleigh. Well Viola and my dad seen what happened, my dad came out and ask how I cut my hand? I said getting back on the sleigh, he said we better go back in and talk to Viola. We did and she kinda scolded me then gave me a bag of chocolates!! She was a way cool lady! My brother went to the one room school there, I wasn't old enough but would ride my horse to the school and have recess with the test of the kids. When reses was over they would all stand on the porch and one of the kids would come and leg me back on my horse.. very very good memories!!

    That Bannock pass is crazy! I've often wondered about secondary roads that cut through our mountain bands in the rockies. Something exactly like this. They aren't very common from what I've found. They are sketchy modes of travel. My kind of adventure. Lol.
