Small boat diesel engines generally do not run "rough" if they're starved of fuel They either run slower or quit. The normal "lift" pump and injection pump provide a fuel flow above that of full throttle and the excess is returned to the tank so polishing occurs all the time. If the engine pump was trying to suck though an inop or faulty electric pump that could be a problem. You should check to see if the engine runs normally with the power off the new pump. The pump should pass fuel. There should never be diesel odor unless it's spilled. If there is odor, there's a leak

How do you get the puppies on an off the boat? We are in the process of buying a Caliber 40 and love the companionway but am curious about from the dinghy up the transom. (Similar sized dog)
We stand one leg in the dinghy and one on the swim step, and then can pluck the dogs from the cockpit and put them in the dinghy. The other way they go usually from the dinghy to the swim step and then up to the cockpit. They wear harnesses which make good handles, and the other hand under their belly. It’s easier for Mike than for Taylor, but is doable.

I can tell straight away when my raycor is getting fouled, engine runs rough, and doesn't like full throttle. It's a Yanmar.
