It definitely looks like an extremely capable device. And the price makes sense to me for all of that, given the generally premium prices for TE gear. The portability is also highly attractive, something missed by a lot of people who say "just buy x, y or z".
I do note that if Ableton were to do a firmware upgrade to the Move that gave it 8 tracks instead of 4, it could be an awfully good alternative to the OP-XY. And it's a lot cheaper.

An iPad will last you a few years at best. The battery will start to fail, the apps you use will stop working if the developer doesn't keep them up to date. An iPad is a touch screen, not tactile at all. You can't develop the muscle memory you can with a physical device. And yes, the XY has a battery, but TE will want to help you replace it. Apple will just tell you the device is near the end of its life and needs replacing.

@@jocee2257 I mean as a sketch pad yeah you can't compare them but in overall usage it's most important feature is the sequencer. They’re hyping the sequencing capabilities but they give you one multi-function output. I can choose to sequence cv or gate but not both at the same time. Which is weird because you traditionally need both. All the videos I’ve watched about this it’s been presented as a stand alone device. It’s interesting in TE’s literature they hype its ability to sequence external gear yet it’s a bit handicapped in that space. Is this sequencer more powerful than a Elektron sequencer?
