We had the 6-wheeled version of thoose when I did my military service loooong ago. One day we went off the road at high speed, hit the outside of the ditch and rolled sideways into a stand of pines. We were going back to base after a couple of days out in the snow so we had stuffed everything in there including the 20 liter insulated containers that containd the leftovers of the last meal we ate before heading home.
I had stewed raindeer meat inside my helmet that was still on my head when we crawled out of the wreck.

I foolishly passed up an opportunity to buy one of those Volvo 303s about 10 years ago on a military auction. They use mostly domestic Volvo parts for the motor and transmission is what I understand. First time I saw one was parked outside the bar in Coldfoot Alaska, a miner owned it and used it to bring his boys in for a drink.

Volvos, Unimogs and Pinzgauers are AMAZING, though not very well known in N.America... I spent all my childhood steppin in and out of them in Patagonia (we also owned Land Rover, Bronco and Jeep, which I also loved) this C303 is one of my favorites (4x4 or 6x6), since you can transform them into an interesting camping-van, a Pinzgauer 6x6 hardtop is also a great option. Otherwise I would love to have back my jeep from 1953, it had so much character!

That C303 was the military version. I had the version they made for the electric company to run power line roads. Exactly the same except for the rear interior lay out. It has a divided lockable storage bin on each side that run the length . Much better layout for exploring. Everything is easily removable, doors, back door, windshield (it's also flip down), the roof and even the aft part of the body.
They are super easy and fun to drive. They turn really well and the portal axles are fantastic. The drive train is all pneumatic push button (toggle).
Everything locks and 4L 1 is 3mph at red line.
They aren't nearly tippy as it looks. All the weight is at the bottom. They are SLOW. Top speed on the highway is about 75mph.
You can get them cheap in Sweden .
I never should have sold mine. :(

I drove a Volvo C 303 like that when I was in the Swedish military. We drove on similar roads as the one you drove on here. Sometimes worse. And it was useless on such roads. (if you can call them roads) I don't know how many times I got stuck. The one I took care of there, had no power steering, no power brake, no diff brake. This made it impossible to get around on such roads. Then it was impossible to drive faster than 50 mph on the open road.

Aaah the classic old Volvo Valp (or Puppy in English) is a staple in the armed forces here in Sweden!

Actually, it is the tgb11 - the successor to the "Valp" a.k.a pltgb 903.

Another great video. I love the variety of content on this channel. I also noticed that regardless of the trail, your inside camera always remained stable. What kind of setup do you have?

That kind Volvo is my and my friends favourite offroad car here in sweden. We build our cars more better for offroad and try many new ideas every years.

You need a Unimog when they hit serious off road terrain...to pull out the Jeep when it gets stuck.

I love that Volvo as much as the Pinzgauers, they are cool. I love the boxy look. I also own Mitsubishi Montero Gen I which is as boxy as they use to come and now a Gladiator which nos not far behind on the look, LOL.
Always love your videos and was cringing while driving between the branches 😖 but it was awesome.
I also wanted to mention that I love the snorkel on your Gladiator, do you mind sharing some info about it?
