@12:35 I believe the overlanders in Africa when they rode in Landrovers they had tandem winch or pull chains/rope setup. So if you started getting too deep or pushed by the current they could winch you back out. Visa versa if you made it to the other side and the guy/gal behind you lost traction - then you just tow them out.

The currents can wash out deeper channels on the bottom than you'd expect and then you're suddenly in too deep.

I love that you made a solid attempt to cross it though! That’s one of the reasons I prefer having a full size truck. The mass keeps you on track but that current would test any vehicle I reckon.

If you can’t walk the river, you shouldn’t drive the river.
That’s how trucks get drowned.
You are not suppose to widen the trails, your creating a wider impact (foot print). You are allowed to cut the tree over the path and that is what you should have done.
Smart move; backing out of the river - that water was moving fast. The video probably doesn’t do it justice for how sketchy it really was.
