    The PIF’s takeover of Newcastle is one in a long line of controversial buyouts across football. The Glazers at Manchester United, Sheikh Mansour at Manchester City, Stan Kroenke at Arsenal, and Roman Abramovich at Chelsea have all come in for criticism at different times, but the Newcastle deal has been especially divisive, with many fans and commentators questioning how the new Saudi owners passed the Premier League’s fit and proper persons test.
    It’s one part of a long and complicated process required to buy a club, and with greater interest than ever in the financial workings of the game, we’re taking a look at how teams change hands - from how deals are put together, to the aims of different buyers, to the moral questions around ownership.
    If you’ve ever wondered who can purchase a football team, start here.

      @@africancoast They have a rivalry due to how they were separated and what happened after, with Psg being a big club now, that rivalry in this day and age would bring more publicity and marketing to Paris fc, with a few star signings along the line of coutinho, at least one in each group of position... Striker,defender,midfield...buy a FC eindhoven (2nd tier of dutch football) as a feeder club PSV rivals and repeat the concept but with under 20s like Salzburg and FC liefering, with the amount of young talent n France alone plus Netherlands n Europe generally, thats a good plan

      So basically they're owned by the fans, meaning members each have a small stake in the club so someone buying a club like real Madrid is impossible as it needs every member to agree to sell which will never happen. So each couple years, the club holds election to hire a president to lead the club like Perez laporta etc, they are voted in and run the club. Its a democracy, good way in running a club

    Football clubs should be ran democratically by the people who know and love the game, not by billionaires trying to wash their image. This video is great because it helps continue to highlight so many of the issues at hand with the current ownership system in sports overall.

    ⭐QUESTION : Why don't just PSG reduce the wages of the players and in compensation Al Khalaifi gifts the players a couple of super cars and then the players could sell those cars and earn money they lost through wages....so that the club could easily bring new expensive players without breaching FFP?🐒

    • @fraserbright8836
      @fraserbright8836 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because “gifts” that big would be classed as income so you’re back at the start. If you go for lower ticket items then it’s not worth the cost due to devaluation and time spent

    Quite a staggeringly poor piece by all accounts.
    Talking about the PIF takeover, the line was it’s “not about money”. Sheikh Mansour has spent a supposed £1.3bn into the club he bought for £210m and it is now valued at £4bn. He’s actually sold shares in the club totalling almost £1bn. That’s an incredible return by anyone’s standards.
    PIF is an investment fund and will be banking on something similar. The outlay may be larger and the value smaller but there’s some pretty big margins to play with in there. They’ll undoubtedly be expecting to invest in a valuable asset.
    Of course that’s without even factoring in the benefits of sports-washing and and the publicity the State will get around the world. It’s much harder to put a value on it but they’ll absolutely know that it has a value.
    Another casually covered and poorly considered point made is the tripe about clubs wanting reform towards the end of the video. They don’t. They want reform about as much as they want competition, the greedy six at least.
    When the PIF takeover almost went through and everyone was aware it was piracy, rather than human rights violations that prevented it, the door could have been slammed shut then. When it comes to potential competitors, the door is welded shut, never mind slammed (FFP, knee-jerk banning of related party sponsorship etc).
    The reason there was no appetite then and there’s no appetite now is that if you lock out the handful of people in the world who actually have the means to purchase and finance a Premier League club, you’re making your asset virtually worthless.
    How many people would be left in the world who could ever purchase or acquire a stake in the greedy six if they stop bad people being able to? It would be financial suicide.
    Very lazy and poorly thought out video.
