I sold a squier bullet from 94 in 2001. It was my first guitar. A week ago it came up in marketplace. I went and bought it and it still had my initials I carved into it under the pickgaurd. I can’t believe I got it back after 23 years about a block away from the store I sold it too.
@@nclsrfn I couldn’t believe it either. The guy who bought it lived a block away from the music store I traded it in at. He was mainly an acoustic country music player that wanted to try electric. Left it in a closet for 20 years. He said he forgot he even had it 😂. When I went I just thought I was buying one that looked like my first guitar for a little nostalgia trip. I took the pickgaurd off on a whim and poof there were my initials. I couldn’t and still can’t believe it.
Coincidentally, I own a guitar that I proudly call ‘Dave Simpson’! I pointed this out on some guitar forum last week when someone asked why guitars were always called ‘she’ or had girls’ names 🤣🤣. I remember first seeing it on an instagram post from you as a bit of a teaser for a future review and immediately wanted it. I think I commented on that post that I’d buy it if you ever needed to sell it. It was with a tinge of sadness that one day as I clicked onto Facebook marketplace I saw that you’d just put it up for sale. Sadness because I know you wouldn’t have normally wanted to sell it but that your van was probably asking for some TLC so needs must. I happily drove halfway down the country to collect it and it’s now my number 1. I’ve used it at every gig we’ve played since and have no plans to change. Shout if you ever want to borrow it🤘
i’ve never had to sell anything, thankfully, but i do have a lost opportunity story. i was at a local music store some years ago, and up on the wall was a reissue les paul custom. three pickups, bigsby, dictionary definition black beauty. it was stunning, and i knew i needed to at least try it out. the neck was lovely and slim, the pickups could do everything from tele on steroids to warm, round jazz, to thrash metal, and it weighed just under 8 pounds. it was perfect in every way. except for the price. they wanted $3500 for it. absolutely a fair price for how great it was, but i just didn’t have the money. i spent a couple hours trying to figure out how to make it work, but it just wasn’t happening. i watched that guitar sit on the wall for about 6 months, all the while i had been saving everything i could to get it, and i finally had about $2500 saved up, and i was going to try and negotiate a deal, maybe throw in a couple trades, and it was gone. it had sold the day before i walked in. i was absolutely gutted, and i’m not ashamed to admit that i pouted and moped about it for a few weeks. it sold to a local blues player who uses it live pretty much every other night, and he makes it sing.
Things that meant to be yours will find you and stay. For reasons you won't know for a while that guitar was not meant to be yours - even though your mind tells you otherwise. Life is not that straightforward, there are many variables that are in play of which we are not aware of. 🤷🏼♂️
I had an Epiphone Dot (335). I loved that thing. Came down on some hard times and had to sell it to get financially stable. Wish I never did. Someday we’ll reunite.

Lee Jackson 100w crate stealth head... Got it for free, was blowing fuses. Added Bicycle chain handle and fixed its giant gouge through the circuit board with jumper wires. Absolutely one of the most self ass kickings I've ever given myself trading it off...
My escapees were a 1964 Fender Mustang, 1963 Rickenbacker 425 and the worst was a 1966 Rickenbacker 366/12. The one with the comb device that converted 12 strings to 6. It was one of the first ones made in November of 1966 (I had it authenticated at the factory in Santa Ana, CA in 1985). I won't even tell you what I traded it for, blasphemy!!
A Red ST 62 HAD to be sold at the time. AND my early 90s Korean Blue Strat, went through a brand snobbery phase and regret it still. 2 that I still miss almost every day
@@secretdaisy6484 had to be sold at a terrible time for a terrible price (due to my own AWFUL relic attempt) totally my fault. Stings still though. The Korean Strat I gave to my little sister as her birthday present so I am very glad that it has become her favourite Guitar and she feels the same way about it that I do. I both do and don’t regret giving it to her, I would’ve sold it at the time due to my mindset, so I’m very glad that she ended up with it rather than some stranger. I miss it dearly though I’m glad I can play it when I’m there at my dads
I had a 90s Fender CIJ Mustang in Lake Placid Blue with matching headstock and go faster stripe. I'm left handed and it was a righty, so had to convert it. BEST Guitar I've ever owned. Had to sell it 6 months into living on my own when first moved out of home.
Great Video, Sir Dave 👏🏻 I have a few that got away. But my main one is my Vintage V100. I bought it off a band mate and absolutely loved it. I then, for some strange reason, decided to sell it (I didn't need too) it sold on eBay, and off it went. Regretted it big time. Randomly browsing eBay, and it was back up for sale. I bought it and paid a hell of a lot more than what I sold it for. I was glad to have it back. Done a few mods to it. Then my head was like, "You have too many guitars, so I sold a few, and for reasons unknown, I sold the V100 again 🤦🏻♂️ Again I regretted it." Asked the guy if he'd sell it back ... he said yes. Then he changed his mind. About a year later, it popped up on Marketplace, so I jumped on it. He offered to drop it off to me ... then nothing. No response to messages, then I was blocked. I guess it's long gone now. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be. Hands down the best LP Styled guitar I played. Shouldn't have let that go 😢 I picked another up recently, but it was nowhere near as good as that first V100. I believe this was the newer version. I've sold that on with no regrets 😅
I've only ever sold 2 guitars over the course of 47 years. A 90s Japanese Strat that I loved, but traded it for a nice flamenco guitar; and an 80s Ibanez Road Star II. That one, I wouldn't mind having back just for the nostalgia. The other guitars I no longer have, I gave to my kids. It's a lot easier to deal with the loss of a guitar when you know your kids are cherishing it now.
I sold as 1968 Strat I bought way back in Germany during my time with the Army, as my car needed expensive repairs- young and foolish at that time - I kick my self daily
My biggest guitar regret was a parts guitar I put together that was unreal feeling and playing and the neck was so special.. I was stupid for getting rid of it! The body was a an all white Peavey Predator strat that originally came with an all maple neck. The pickups weren't that great sounding to me so I put a set of Fender alnicos just some random set I had laying around but they were sweet! My dad have given me a 90's Squier Telecaster at one point and I loved the neck on that thing! It was a Rosewood Maple neck and had the perfect shape and feel to it. I decided to put the Tele neck on the Peavey body and since the neck was a 22 fret I went ahead and rounded the heel to fit the Peavey. When I first took the neck off the Telecaster though I was shocked! The stamp on the date said Mar 23 1991 which is March 23 is my birthday! I was like this neck was made for me! I loved that Bastard guitar I played the hell out of it and gigged with it for years! Eventually acquiring more guitars it sat for a bit and I robbed the pickups out for another project. Eventually my young nephew were showing interest in guitars and so I threw some humbuckers on a pickguard and let them borrow it, with the promise of building them both their own guitars. Few months later they had a yard sale and come to find my brother sold the guitar because they were no longer playing with it and thought it was just a junk guitar. Gutted!! That guitar still haunts me to this day! I'm always scouring our local ad's just to see if I might ever come across it again. At this point I just want the neck I had even installed Dunlop 6100 frets in it I loved that neck! Here's to us finding our faves again someday Dave!
I had a Korean made Explorer that I sold like a big idiot. Single pickup, volume and tone, 25,5 scale, all black. Played great and sound amazing. The brand was Wolf. It was a special order guitar from a group order. I sold it when I didn't have money to buy an amp. Still look for it almost daily. This was almost ten years ago and it still haunts me to this day. I've owned a bunch of guitars since than that were better guitars but this Explorer is the only one I want back.

I grew up with a dad who played guitar. There was a point in my early childhood when he owned some fine Gibson guitars. A Les Paul Standard from the early 90s, and a red flying V that looked like the one KK played in Judas Priest during the early 80s. I thought the world of these guitars. The Les Paul was a cherry burst. I'll always remember opening that case and seeing the yellow and red glow of the burst coloring. One of those magical moments you only experience when you're young like that. We fell on hard times though and he had to part with both of them and insisted on playing an Ibanez and Jackson Dinky that were much cheaper and he didn't have to get rid of those. I like to think the Les Paul was the one that got away. It sounded amazing, but it was one heavy beast. Weighed a ton sitting in your lap.
Hi Dave, I guess we all have a list of the ones that got away! Whether it was for money, upgrades,or just being in an emotional space where that particular guitar didn’t fit at the time. I built a tele partscaster, using the most high end components I could find. 50’s neck, reliced candy tangerine body etc. It was so personal and such a perfect fit, I still can’t believe I let it go (head in the wrong place at the time). I take comfort in the fact there are lots of excellent axes out there I still have to find! Best wishes and stay well!
1979 Fender Strat 3 bolt hard tail, very rare antique grey sunburst custom colour, cracked poly, black plastics, heavy as hell, sustained for days, but I loved it. Sold to stop turning homeless. Once solvent I tried to track it down, to no avail. Had to buy 4 Strats to quell my grief.
I had three guitars stolen that I still miss: My Fender Mexican Strat with Tex-Mex pickups (Great sounding pickups), a Squire Strat with a Lace Gold Sensor in the middle pickup position, and a Peavey Reactor T-style guitar with a Lace Red Sensor in the bridge pickup position
About 1990 I bought a new Charvel that I sold a long time ago. I have regretted letting it go for a long time. It had active pickups and the 9 volt had gone dead. Back then I never heard of active pickups. It was like 6 months before I figured it out. It did not have a seperate battery cavity, so I had no clue. I thought the pickup went out. This is pre internet time for the most part. Anyway that guitar was fantastic. There is gear too that I regret selling. I have bought and sold the Digitech GSP1101 3 times. I currently have one and will not sell it. used with an amp in the 4 cable method, it is perfect for me. I am a gear junkie and have 3 completely different Rigs.
Nowadays, the only guitars I even want in my collection are Jazzmasters, but there is one guitar that I wish I could locate and afford. It is my late uncle's black Squier Stratocaster. It was a weird one - dual humbuckers, very curvy body, no pickguard, and I believe it was made in Japan, but don't quote me on that. In any case, this was a real nice Squier, better than some Fenders I've tried (Mexican ones, at least). I've seen the same one in red, but I don't just want that guitar, I want my uncle's actual guitar, but he sold it before he died, and nobody knows who he sold it to.
I miss a few guitars...my old black beauty les paul custom I bought in the 70s....an old violin short scale bass probably Italian in make that had ceramic pickups and no logo....sounded like an upright when plugged in with ancient flatwound strings....my son has it now...my old les paul is with an old friend overseas. I given other guitars I liked but didn't play enough to family members...almost all of my good guitars are passed on to people I love. I'm not attached to any of them anymore other than a memory of a gig or a solo on a recording, etc..I still have too many guitars..I'll find them homes one day I do wish I'd kept an old Fender Bassman head that I sold when I was traveling
1995 Gibson Explorer I sold all because I was worried about the removed finish on the back of the neck getting ruined yet it wouldn't have. Yet it was an awesome playing and sounding guitar.
Guitars that got away are a lot harder to deal with than chicks that got away. One is a heartache, the other is a blessing… I’ll let you figure out which is which.

I once owned a 1969 Les Paul Gold Top Reissue that was a bit chopped up with two P90’s and a DiMarzio dual sound humbucker in the neck position. It was heavy as shit, so I traded it for a 1980 Fender Lead 2 and $100. This was back in 1980. I still regret that loss, but my back surely doesn’t!
My list is very short. I made a HUGE mistake selling a Gretsch Historic Series arch top with 1 Filtertron pickup in mint condition. It was great playing it unplugged. Still looking for a replacement 🎸🙁. And the one that keeps me up at nights was a 70s walnut body natural finish The Paul, also known as a Firebrand. I’m really a Strat fiend but this old Les Paul was really special. It wasn’t like any other Les Paul. The neck was perfect, the ebony fretboard was wonderful and it sounded amazing. When I sold it I had just bought a new American Standard Strat in Grafitti yellow and I thought you only needed 1 guitar. I’ve learned 🙃. 👍☮️🌞🎸🎵
140k and climbing for Monsters! Awesome! I have only purchased 3 guitars, always poor so I have had to keep them, they are only cheap squire bullets and affinity. I did restore a Greg bennet signature Malibu, replaced everything and I know what you mean about creating something special that means something to you you don’t like to sell these as it has your personality attached. I think you should grab another affinity and re-make the Rory strat, we would love to see this process and I’m sure you would even do a better job now.🙌
My highway one strat I sold had the natural wood no lacquer , they discontinued they Highway one series sadly, I sold it to get a Fender Mexican 50s strat in fiesta red being a Hank Marvin fan and I still have that one nearly 20 years
Dave we all have regrets when it comes to gear. Three strats that I regret selling are an early EJ strat, 66’CS Strat, and a 90’s 🇺🇸 standard. I’d want the Std back most as it was my first good guitar. It was very light and it played amazingly. I’m bassist first and I have a 🇺🇸 std P bass that’s similar. It’s a factory freak that sounds and plays better than my custom shop basses. It’s beat up so it has a vibe but It’s is very resonant. Anybody who hears it offers to buy it lol.
I had a 1995 Epiphone Sheraton back in 2015, and sold it as I decided to take a break from playing. Also more recently a gretsch Nick 13, sold due to a shoulder injury. Also a fender vintage reissue 62 Strat in Sherwood green, with bare knuckle Irish tour pickups, it was my “srv” guitar I had .13’s on it, tuned to standard
I had a really nice Hamer many years ago. It was harmonically alive when I played it. Sure miss that Guitar Never had another instrument that had that soul.
Dave. Listen. What you need to do is BUILD ANOTHER RORY STRAT! Think of some things you think you might have done better with the first one and make the new one even better. Project for the winter. Do a video series on it, it’ll be great!
You know what I’ve only ever sold two guitars and I miss neither of them. The first was a Honey Burst Gibson Les Paul, with all the push pull pots and out phase stuff, never got on with the neck. Sold it. Albeit I didn’t use the money on anything good, just blew it all on going out, which was damn stupid. Then sold a 60s Standard Gibson Les Paul, for one simple reason, I found another 60s Standard Gibson Les Paul that I preferred the look of, and it was an even more resonant piece of wood. Sold the first one to fund the current one. And this one is never leaving me.
I have two, although one is a guitar I wanted to buy but changed my mind, then by the time I changed my mind back the shop had sold it and one I regret trading. The guitar that never was is a 2001/2002 Fender Strat, It was like metallic grey with black hardware and full maple neck it played beautifully. I was an idiot and let that imposter syndrome thing sneak in and thought I wasn't worthy of owning such a nice guitar until a few weeks later I decided that if I didn't feel worthy, I should buy it and play it until I do feel worthy. By then someone else had bought it. The guitar I regret trading was a Tanglewood Che-1 which was your typical super-strat style guitar in a matt khaki green with a picture of che guevara on the body, chunkyish neck and Entwhistle red star pickups. To me it sounded and played great. One day I decided that I wanted a SG so traded it online for an Epiphone G-400 Les Paul (SG) Custom, the cream SG with 3 gold humbuckers on it... absolutely hated the Epiphone.
Once had a Jackson Pro series King V in Ferrari red, which was an absolute dream guitar for the Judas Priest fanboy that I am. Had to be sold for funds and I miss it nearly every day :(

Two main regrets for me...a Fender Katana that I upgraded with a Floyd Rose, and a Charvel Model 3....other sales hurt a bit but those are the ones I really kick myself for
For me it was a 2016 epiphone les Paul standard pro in wine red it was modded to have mix match plastics and it had a set of zebra bobbin Seymour Duncan humbuckers even though I have my 2019 that guitar still haunts me to present day
Hmm. I had the same Revelation thinline in green with a maple neck and fretboard. Upgraded the trem and copper-lined the cavity. Amazing sounding guitar and I let it go 😱. I actually gave it away and it went to a good/appreciative home of a much younger and broke player so, good ending really.
I had an Epiphone Korina Explorer that was a great guitar. It had a beautiful hardcase too. I had to sell it unfortunately due to hard times... I think about it now and then and wish I could get it back. Also I had an opportunity to get an older japanese Ibanez Iceman that I did not have funds at the moment, but man, I wish I had bought it. That for sure got away.
I loaned my first beginner guitar and amp to someone that wanted to get into guitar. I honestly forgot about it and 3 years later it occurred to me that he could only really contact me via social media at that point, which I had deleted a year prior. That was 10 years ago. I hope he gave it away too.
I had a custom made guitar by a random luthier in America. It was really cool, had it for a long time and sold it, I’m so upset I did it, was stupid. Lost in about 2018, got it in 2006.
I already had an Ibanez RG220B with Seymour Duncans, then I picked up a beat to hell purple sparkle RG, not sure the exact model number, it was an HSH with double locking trem. It was set up all wrong, and had huge chips missing from the finish. I tried filling the chips in with purple nail polish, but it didn't match exactly and made it look even worse... I couldn't get it in tune, so I sold it for cheap (my RG220B I blocked the trem off with two pieces of wood on either side of the tremolo block, should've done that on the purple guitar for the time)... man, do I regret selling that guitar, I have 7 RGs now and a JEM Jr. now, but I still miss that RG. I've sold a Gibson SG Gothic (more like got my money back cause it buzzed like crazy), my first Samick Strat copy, and a few others I can't remember right now, only regretted selling that Ibanez.
We've all got them, I sold a 70s ibanez Rickenbacker copy, a musicman stingray and a jet black aerodyne bass, I miss each one, I will never sell my USA am pro 2, it was brought as a 40th present shortly before mum passed
So, Dave! Hello! Thank you for all of those tutorial videos. I have an idea, but it’s crazy. I don’t know if it’s a good idea. The fact is, I know a way Jimi Hendrix never played a wahwah pedal. He never turned it around under his foot. What if your toes switched places with your heel? Would it be easier to machine-gun the on/off button with your heel? Would you automatically rock the pedal in some unusual way because nobody else in human history was dumb enough to try it? I’m just to lazy to plug in and try it. I’m kind of thinking I could move my heel pretty fast, but I worry about breaking my new pedals. Anyway, just a thought.

I had a Marshall JCM 900 Dual Reverb which I bought in 1996 I sold because I was seriously strapped for cash, didn't do any research and let it go for pennies about 15 years ago and it still hurts now, wish I still had it
I had an Ari Pro ii TA30 which I bought about 20 years ago. It was in bad shape but I got it set up by a pro guy I know. Total cost was around 150 UK £. I sold it for £160, because at the time it wasnt being played enough. Big regret... although I did get a message from the guy I sold it to, saying he absolutely loved it and it was being played and gigged regularly. Made it easier.
In 1969 I bought a Fender mustang, "yes I'm old" it was dated Nov 64 on the end of the neck. It had two strat pickups fitted. I took it to work and changed the shape of it on the bandsaw 😬 (deeper cutaway on top), I also designed a sliding pickup system using the strat pickups fixed together and fitted in a frame which slid along a cutout in the pick guard. I was gutted when later I saw a guitarist using a Dan Armstrong with a sliding pickup. I swapped the mustang for a 74 strat hardtail it weighed a ton and I hated it, so I got rid of it. I wonder where my mustang is. 🤔
I’ve got loads I regret getting rid off. I swapped a 60s Guild Starfire for a Les Paul copy (didn’t realise what I had at the time) when I was about 17. I also miss a brilliant Japanese Fender ‘66 RI Strat, a Rickenbacker 650A and a lovely 90s Les Paul Studio that sounded amazing.
I've had Gretsch, Gibson and alike and my biggest madness was my burgundy mist mexican strat. You know when a guitar is an extension of yourself, well that was it. Not expensive at the time but god I miss it. Saying that I'm giving up the guitar and all I have left is a mint condition delta blues parlour in solid mahogany by Tanglewood. £200 if anyone is interested Best guitar I've ever played no jokes
I actually get way more emotional about the amps that I’ve had to get rid of over the years. Guitars are different because you can customize every inch of them and make them however you want. Amplifiers can be modified…. But that’s on the inside. So they always look the same. I try not to have an attachment to guitars because I go through them so fast. I love the ones that I have now. I could tell you that I’m gonna keep them forever. But that would probably be a lie. I try not to get attached to. But I do miss a few amplifiers. The only guitar that I miss is my 62 telly custom . The one with the binding. In Sunburst.
The guitars I regret selling are 1. Gibson Les Paul custom white 2005 (sold 2017) 2. Gibson Les Paul gold top 2004(sold 2018). At the time, I stopped playing but started again in 2021. Don't be so quick to sell your guitars because the prices have gone way up. However, the market is likely to crash and older style guitars will become affordable again....I hope!

The only one I've ever sold was an ESP LTD Sn200 Snow White. No matter how hard I tried I just couldn't bond with it. I was never so glad to get rid of a guitar. It didn't get away, I kicked it out!
I haven’t sold a single guitar and I’m at about 23 now I just can’t bring myself to do it. But I did sell a Moogerfooger MF101 in limited edition white about 3 months before they stopped making them. Literally sold it for a 1/10 the price they now go for. And I also just wanted the pedal back to use. So I ended up buying the Triungulo Labs clone to fill the void
I had a 2016 (or thereabouts) olympic white American Standard Strat. It played so nicely and sounded immense. For some reason I decided I wanted vintage spec so I got rid of it... but the vintage spec guitar I got to replace it just wasn't as good frankly
I had to sell my beloved Peavey T40 bass to a friend to buy tax for the bus that me and my family lived in. I know where it is still.... sat in its case under the guys bed unused since I sold it to him in 1991 and he refuses to sell it back. Heartbreaking.
I went out to buy a guitar in 1983. First guitar shop I went to I could have bought a Fender Mustang with a blue sparkle finish for £69. At the time, Fender Mustangs were looked down upon and I passed. Wonder what it might be worth now?
I would first have to turn loose of guitars. Right now i am just accumulating and not letting them go. And i really have got to start making this happen. Now. And btw, i have an 05 squier affinity strat that i love. I use it as a test mule for a lot of things, but i dont foresee ever getting rid of it.
My biggest regret is a Yamaha Pacifica I got for Christmas in 1996. It was my second guitar but my first nice guitar (first was a satellite strat copy and it was a bit crap). Sold it it when i didn't need to. Id used it on all the recordings i made up until 2003. 😢
Sometimes I got a quenstion and think " Go ask Dave" 🤠 We all (I at least) sold and bought gear that in retrospect was not so smart 😅 BTW I am not talking overspending 😎

Left it in a closet for 20 years. He said he forgot he even had it 😂. When I went I just thought I was buying one that looked like my first guitar for a little nostalgia trip. I took the pickgaurd off on a whim and poof there were my initials. I couldn’t and still can’t believe it.

Coincidentally, I own a guitar that I proudly call ‘Dave Simpson’! I pointed this out on some guitar forum last week when someone asked why guitars were always called ‘she’ or had girls’ names 🤣🤣. I remember first seeing it on an instagram post from you as a bit of a teaser for a future review and immediately wanted it. I think I commented on that post that I’d buy it if you ever needed to sell it. It was with a tinge of sadness that one day as I clicked onto Facebook marketplace I saw that you’d just put it up for sale. Sadness because I know you wouldn’t have normally wanted to sell it but that your van was probably asking for some TLC so needs must. I happily drove halfway down the country to collect it and it’s now my number 1. I’ve used it at every gig we’ve played since and have no plans to change. Shout if you ever want to borrow it🤘
i’ve never had to sell anything, thankfully, but i do have a lost opportunity story. i was at a local music store some years ago, and up on the wall was a reissue les paul custom. three pickups, bigsby, dictionary definition black beauty. it was stunning, and i knew i needed to at least try it out. the neck was lovely and slim, the pickups could do everything from tele on steroids to warm, round jazz, to thrash metal, and it weighed just under 8 pounds. it was perfect in every way. except for the price. they wanted $3500 for it. absolutely a fair price for how great it was, but i just didn’t have the money. i spent a couple hours trying to figure out how to make it work, but it just wasn’t happening. i watched that guitar sit on the wall for about 6 months, all the while i had been saving everything i could to get it, and i finally had about $2500 saved up, and i was going to try and negotiate a deal, maybe throw in a couple trades, and it was gone. it had sold the day before i walked in. i was absolutely gutted, and i’m not ashamed to admit that i pouted and moped about it for a few weeks. it sold to a local blues player who uses it live pretty much every other night, and he makes it sing.
Things that meant to be yours will find you and stay. For reasons you won't know for a while that guitar was not meant to be yours - even though your mind tells you otherwise. Life is not that straightforward, there are many variables that are in play of which we are not aware of. 🤷🏼♂️

I had an Epiphone Dot (335). I loved that thing. Came down on some hard times and had to sell it to get financially stable. Wish I never did. Someday we’ll reunite.

Lee Jackson 100w crate stealth head... Got it for free, was blowing fuses. Added Bicycle chain handle and fixed its giant gouge through the circuit board with jumper wires. Absolutely one of the most self ass kickings I've ever given myself trading it off...

My escapees were a 1964 Fender Mustang, 1963 Rickenbacker 425 and the worst was a 1966 Rickenbacker 366/12. The one with the comb device that converted 12 strings to 6. It was one of the first ones made in November of 1966 (I had it authenticated at the factory in Santa Ana, CA in 1985). I won't even tell you what I traded it for, blasphemy!!
A Red ST 62 HAD to be sold at the time. AND my early 90s Korean Blue Strat, went through a brand snobbery phase and regret it still. 2 that I still miss almost every day

The Korean Strat I gave to my little sister as her birthday present so I am very glad that it has become her favourite Guitar and she feels the same way about it that I do.
I both do and don’t regret giving it to her, I would’ve sold it at the time due to my mindset, so I’m very glad that she ended up with it rather than some stranger. I miss it dearly though I’m glad I can play it when I’m there at my dads

I had a 90s Fender CIJ Mustang in Lake Placid Blue with matching headstock and go faster stripe. I'm left handed and it was a righty, so had to convert it. BEST Guitar I've ever owned. Had to sell it 6 months into living on my own when first moved out of home.

I have a few that got away. But my main one is my Vintage V100. I bought it off a band mate and absolutely loved it. I then, for some strange reason, decided to sell it (I didn't need too) it sold on eBay, and off it went. Regretted it big time. Randomly browsing eBay, and it was back up for sale. I bought it and paid a hell of a lot more than what I sold it for. I was glad to have it back. Done a few mods to it. Then my head was like, "You have too many guitars, so I sold a few, and for reasons unknown, I sold the V100 again 🤦🏻♂️ Again I regretted it." Asked the guy if he'd sell it back ... he said yes. Then he changed his mind. About a year later, it popped up on Marketplace, so I jumped on it. He offered to drop it off to me ... then nothing. No response to messages, then I was blocked. I guess it's long gone now. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be. Hands down the best LP Styled guitar I played. Shouldn't have let that go 😢 I picked another up recently, but it was nowhere near as good as that first V100. I believe this was the newer version. I've sold that on with no regrets 😅
I've only ever sold 2 guitars over the course of 47 years. A 90s Japanese Strat that I loved, but traded it for a nice flamenco guitar; and an 80s Ibanez Road Star II. That one, I wouldn't mind having back just for the nostalgia. The other guitars I no longer have, I gave to my kids. It's a lot easier to deal with the loss of a guitar when you know your kids are cherishing it now.
I sold as 1968 Strat I bought way back in Germany during my time with the Army, as my car needed expensive repairs- young and foolish at that time - I kick my self daily

My biggest guitar regret was a parts guitar I put together that was unreal feeling and playing and the neck was so special.. I was stupid for getting rid of it! The body was a an all white Peavey Predator strat that originally came with an all maple neck. The pickups weren't that great sounding to me so I put a set of Fender alnicos just some random set I had laying around but they were sweet! My dad have given me a 90's Squier Telecaster at one point and I loved the neck on that thing! It was a Rosewood Maple neck and had the perfect shape and feel to it. I decided to put the Tele neck on the Peavey body and since the neck was a 22 fret I went ahead and rounded the heel to fit the Peavey. When I first took the neck off the Telecaster though I was shocked! The stamp on the date said Mar 23 1991 which is March 23 is my birthday! I was like this neck was made for me! I loved that Bastard guitar I played the hell out of it and gigged with it for years! Eventually acquiring more guitars it sat for a bit and I robbed the pickups out for another project. Eventually my young nephew were showing interest in guitars and so I threw some humbuckers on a pickguard and let them borrow it, with the promise of building them both their own guitars. Few months later they had a yard sale and come to find my brother sold the guitar because they were no longer playing with it and thought it was just a junk guitar. Gutted!! That guitar still haunts me to this day! I'm always scouring our local ad's just to see if I might ever come across it again. At this point I just want the neck I had even installed Dunlop 6100 frets in it I loved that neck! Here's to us finding our faves again someday Dave!

I had a Korean made Explorer that I sold like a big idiot. Single pickup, volume and tone, 25,5 scale, all black. Played great and sound amazing. The brand was Wolf. It was a special order guitar from a group order. I sold it when I didn't have money to buy an amp. Still look for it almost daily. This was almost ten years ago and it still haunts me to this day. I've owned a bunch of guitars since than that were better guitars but this Explorer is the only one I want back.

I grew up with a dad who played guitar. There was a point in my early childhood when he owned some fine Gibson guitars. A Les Paul Standard from the early 90s, and a red flying V that looked like the one KK played in Judas Priest during the early 80s. I thought the world of these guitars. The Les Paul was a cherry burst. I'll always remember opening that case and seeing the yellow and red glow of the burst coloring. One of those magical moments you only experience when you're young like that.
We fell on hard times though and he had to part with both of them and insisted on playing an Ibanez and Jackson Dinky that were much cheaper and he didn't have to get rid of those. I like to think the Les Paul was the one that got away. It sounded amazing, but it was one heavy beast. Weighed a ton sitting in your lap.
Hi Dave, I guess we all have a list of the ones that got away! Whether it was for money, upgrades,or just being in an emotional space where that particular guitar didn’t fit at the time. I built a tele partscaster, using the most high end components I could find. 50’s neck, reliced candy tangerine body etc. It was so personal and such a perfect fit, I still can’t believe I let it go (head in the wrong place at the time). I take comfort in the fact there are lots of excellent axes out there I still have to find! Best wishes and stay well!
1979 Fender Strat 3 bolt hard tail, very rare antique grey sunburst custom colour, cracked poly, black plastics, heavy as hell, sustained for days, but I loved it. Sold to stop turning homeless. Once solvent I tried to track it down, to no avail. Had to buy 4 Strats to quell my grief.
You made the Rory strat. You could make another one. With what you've learned since, you could make a better one. Make it and then never let it go.
I had a Danelectro U1 reissue (90's, I think) which I stupidly sold years ago, and I still miss it...
I had three guitars stolen that I still miss: My Fender Mexican Strat with Tex-Mex pickups (Great sounding pickups), a Squire Strat with a Lace Gold Sensor in the middle pickup position, and a Peavey Reactor T-style guitar with a Lace Red Sensor in the bridge pickup position

About 1990 I bought a new Charvel that I sold a long time ago. I have regretted letting it go for a long time. It had active pickups and the 9 volt had gone dead. Back then I never heard of active pickups. It was like 6 months before I figured it out. It did not have a seperate battery cavity, so I had no clue. I thought the pickup went out. This is pre internet time for the most part. Anyway that guitar was fantastic. There is gear too that I regret selling. I have bought and sold the Digitech GSP1101 3 times. I currently have one and will not sell it. used with an amp in the 4 cable method, it is perfect for me. I am a gear junkie and have 3 completely different Rigs.
Nowadays, the only guitars I even want in my collection are Jazzmasters, but there is one guitar that I wish I could locate and afford. It is my late uncle's black Squier Stratocaster. It was a weird one - dual humbuckers, very curvy body, no pickguard, and I believe it was made in Japan, but don't quote me on that. In any case, this was a real nice Squier, better than some Fenders I've tried (Mexican ones, at least). I've seen the same one in red, but I don't just want that guitar, I want my uncle's actual guitar, but he sold it before he died, and nobody knows who he sold it to.
I had a LTD V-200. The lawsuit version. I wish I hadn't sold it. Quite rare these days.
I miss a few guitars...my old black beauty les paul custom I bought in the 70s....an old violin short scale bass probably Italian in make that had ceramic pickups and no logo....sounded like an upright when plugged in with ancient flatwound strings....my son has it now...my old les paul is with an old friend overseas. I given other guitars I liked but didn't play enough to family members...almost all of my good guitars are passed on to people I love. I'm not attached to any of them anymore other than a memory of a gig or a solo on a recording, etc..I still have too many guitars..I'll find them homes one day I do wish I'd kept an old Fender Bassman head that I sold when I was traveling
1995 Gibson Explorer I sold all because I was worried about the removed finish on the back of the neck getting ruined yet it wouldn't have. Yet it was an awesome playing and sounding guitar.
Guitars that got away are a lot harder to deal with than chicks that got away. One is a heartache, the other is a blessing… I’ll let you figure out which is which.

I once owned a 1969 Les Paul Gold Top Reissue that was a bit chopped up with two P90’s and a DiMarzio dual sound humbucker in the neck position. It was heavy as shit, so I traded it for a 1980 Fender Lead 2 and $100. This was back in 1980. I still regret that loss, but my back surely doesn’t!

My list is very short. I made a HUGE mistake selling a Gretsch Historic Series arch top with 1 Filtertron pickup in mint condition. It was great playing it unplugged. Still looking for a replacement 🎸🙁. And the one that keeps me up at nights was a 70s walnut body natural finish The Paul, also known as a Firebrand. I’m really a Strat fiend but this old Les Paul was really special. It wasn’t like any other Les Paul. The neck was perfect, the ebony fretboard was wonderful and it sounded amazing. When I sold it I had just bought a new American Standard Strat in Grafitti yellow and I thought you only needed 1 guitar. I’ve learned 🙃. 👍☮️🌞🎸🎵
140k and climbing for Monsters! Awesome! I have only purchased 3 guitars, always poor so I have had to keep them, they are only cheap squire bullets and affinity. I did restore a Greg bennet signature Malibu, replaced everything and I know what you mean about creating something special that means something to you you don’t like to sell these as it has your personality attached. I think you should grab another affinity and re-make the Rory strat, we would love to see this process and I’m sure you would even do a better job now.🙌

My highway one strat I sold had the natural wood no lacquer , they discontinued they Highway one series sadly, I sold it to get a Fender Mexican 50s strat in fiesta red being a Hank Marvin fan and I still have that one nearly 20 years
Dave we all have regrets when it comes to gear. Three strats that I regret selling are an early EJ strat, 66’CS Strat, and a 90’s 🇺🇸 standard. I’d want the Std back most as it was my first good guitar. It was very light and it played amazingly. I’m bassist first and I have a 🇺🇸 std P bass that’s similar. It’s a factory freak that sounds and plays better than my custom shop basses. It’s beat up so it has a vibe but It’s is very resonant. Anybody who hears it offers to buy it lol.
I had a 1995 Epiphone Sheraton back in 2015, and sold it as I decided to take a break from playing.
Also more recently a gretsch Nick 13, sold due to a shoulder injury.
Also a fender vintage reissue 62 Strat in Sherwood green, with bare knuckle Irish tour pickups, it was my “srv” guitar I had .13’s on it, tuned to standard
I had a really nice Hamer many years ago. It was harmonically alive when I played it. Sure miss that Guitar Never had another instrument that had that soul.
Had to sell my 79 strat to raise funds for a project back in the 90’s , haven’t found one quite the same.
Too many times I bookmarked a neat find on Reverb, thinking I'll sleep on it... Then someone snatched it up! Wasn't meant to be.
Dave. Listen. What you need to do is BUILD ANOTHER RORY STRAT! Think of some things you think you might have done better with the first one and make the new one even better. Project for the winter. Do a video series on it, it’ll be great!
You know what I’ve only ever sold two guitars and I miss neither of them.
The first was a Honey Burst Gibson Les Paul, with all the push pull pots and out phase stuff, never got on with the neck.
Sold it. Albeit I didn’t use the money on anything good, just blew it all on going out, which was damn stupid.
Then sold a 60s Standard Gibson Les Paul, for one simple reason, I found another 60s Standard Gibson Les Paul that I preferred the look of, and it was an even more resonant piece of wood.
Sold the first one to fund the current one. And this one is never leaving me.
I have two, although one is a guitar I wanted to buy but changed my mind, then by the time I changed my mind back the shop had sold it and one I regret trading.
The guitar that never was is a 2001/2002 Fender Strat, It was like metallic grey with black hardware and full maple neck it played beautifully.
I was an idiot and let that imposter syndrome thing sneak in and thought I wasn't worthy of owning such a nice guitar until a few weeks later I decided that if I didn't feel worthy, I should buy it and play it until I do feel worthy.
By then someone else had bought it.
The guitar I regret trading was a Tanglewood Che-1 which was your typical super-strat style guitar in a matt khaki green with a picture of che guevara on the body, chunkyish neck and Entwhistle red star pickups. To me it sounded and played great. One day I decided that I wanted a SG so traded it online for an Epiphone G-400 Les Paul (SG) Custom, the cream SG with 3 gold humbuckers on it... absolutely hated the Epiphone.
1962 Strat, 2010 Trad Pro Les Paul, 2003 SG Standard, Modulus Flea bass. Those are mine.

A red 1960s Hofner President Bass. I'd got health problems at the time and was feeling really low & I gave it away to my nephew. 🙁
For me it was a 2016 epiphone les Paul standard pro in wine red it was modded to have mix match plastics and it had a set of zebra bobbin Seymour Duncan humbuckers even though I have my 2019 that guitar still haunts me to present day
Hmm. I had the same Revelation thinline in green with a maple neck and fretboard. Upgraded the trem and copper-lined the cavity. Amazing sounding guitar and I let it go 😱. I actually gave it away and it went to a good/appreciative home of a much younger and broke player so, good ending really.
I had an Epiphone Korina Explorer that was a great guitar. It had a beautiful hardcase too. I had to sell it unfortunately due to hard times... I think about it now and then and wish I could get it back.
Also I had an opportunity to get an older japanese Ibanez Iceman that I did not have funds at the moment, but man, I wish I had bought it. That for sure got away.
I loaned my first beginner guitar and amp to someone that wanted to get into guitar. I honestly forgot about it and 3 years later it occurred to me that he could only really contact me via social media at that point, which I had deleted a year prior. That was 10 years ago. I hope he gave it away too.
I had a custom made guitar by a random luthier in America. It was really cool, had it for a long time and sold it, I’m so upset I did it, was stupid. Lost in about 2018, got it in 2006.
I already had an Ibanez RG220B with Seymour Duncans, then I picked up a beat to hell purple sparkle RG, not sure the exact model number, it was an HSH with double locking trem. It was set up all wrong, and had huge chips missing from the finish. I tried filling the chips in with purple nail polish, but it didn't match exactly and made it look even worse... I couldn't get it in tune, so I sold it for cheap (my RG220B I blocked the trem off with two pieces of wood on either side of the tremolo block, should've done that on the purple guitar for the time)... man, do I regret selling that guitar, I have 7 RGs now and a JEM Jr. now, but I still miss that RG. I've sold a Gibson SG Gothic (more like got my money back cause it buzzed like crazy), my first Samick Strat copy, and a few others I can't remember right now, only regretted selling that Ibanez.
We've all got them, I sold a 70s ibanez Rickenbacker copy, a musicman stingray and a jet black aerodyne bass, I miss each one, I will never sell my USA am pro 2, it was brought as a 40th present shortly before mum passed

What if your toes switched places with your heel? Would it be easier to machine-gun the on/off button with your heel?
Would you automatically rock the pedal in some unusual way because nobody else in human history was dumb enough to try it?
I’m just to lazy to plug in and try it. I’m kind of thinking I could move my heel pretty fast, but I worry about breaking my new pedals. Anyway, just a thought.

I had a Marshall JCM 900 Dual Reverb which I bought in 1996 I sold because I was seriously strapped for cash, didn't do any research and let it go for pennies about 15 years ago and it still hurts now, wish I still had it
I had an Ari Pro ii TA30 which I bought about 20 years ago. It was in bad shape but I got it set up by a pro guy I know. Total cost was around 150 UK £. I sold it for £160, because at the time it wasnt being played enough. Big regret... although I did get a message from the guy I sold it to, saying he absolutely loved it and it was being played and gigged regularly. Made it easier.
In 1969 I bought a Fender mustang, "yes I'm old" it was dated Nov 64 on the end of the neck. It had two strat pickups fitted. I took it to work and changed the shape of it on the bandsaw 😬 (deeper cutaway on top), I also designed a sliding pickup system using the strat pickups fixed together and fitted in a frame which slid along a cutout in the pick guard.
I was gutted when later I saw a guitarist using a Dan Armstrong with a sliding pickup.
I swapped the mustang for a 74 strat hardtail it weighed a ton and I hated it, so I got rid of it.
I wonder where my mustang is. 🤔

I’ve got loads I regret getting rid off. I swapped a 60s Guild Starfire for a Les Paul copy (didn’t realise what I had at the time) when I was about 17. I also miss a brilliant Japanese Fender ‘66 RI Strat, a Rickenbacker 650A and a lovely 90s Les Paul Studio that sounded amazing.
I've had Gretsch, Gibson and alike and my biggest madness was my burgundy mist mexican strat. You know when a guitar is an extension of yourself, well that was it. Not expensive at the time but god I miss it. Saying that I'm giving up the guitar and all I have left is a mint condition delta blues parlour in solid mahogany by Tanglewood. £200 if anyone is interested

I actually get way more emotional about the amps that I’ve had to get rid of over the years. Guitars are different because you can customize every inch of them and make them however you want. Amplifiers can be modified…. But that’s on the inside. So they always look the same. I try not to have an attachment to guitars because I go through them so fast. I love the ones that I have now. I could tell you that I’m gonna keep them forever. But that would probably be a lie. I try not to get attached to. But I do miss a few amplifiers.
The only guitar that I miss is my 62 telly custom . The one with the binding. In Sunburst.
The guitars I regret selling are 1. Gibson Les Paul custom white 2005 (sold 2017) 2. Gibson Les Paul gold top 2004(sold 2018). At the time, I stopped playing but started again in 2021. Don't be so quick to sell your guitars because the prices have gone way up. However, the market is likely to crash and older style guitars will become affordable again....I hope!
Mine was one I borrowed for a coupe weeks and had to give it back because I couldn't come up with the $110Cdn to buy in the late 60s, a 1956 Les Paul Gold Top

The only one I've ever sold was an ESP LTD Sn200 Snow White. No matter how hard I tried I just couldn't bond with it. I was never so glad to get rid of a guitar. It didn't get away, I kicked it out!
I haven’t sold a single guitar and I’m at about 23 now I just can’t bring myself to do it. But I did sell a Moogerfooger MF101 in limited edition white about 3 months before they stopped making them. Literally sold it for a 1/10 the price they now go for. And I also just wanted the pedal back to use. So I ended up buying the Triungulo Labs clone to fill the void

I had a 2016 (or thereabouts) olympic white American Standard Strat. It played so nicely and sounded immense. For some reason I decided I wanted vintage spec so I got rid of it... but the vintage spec guitar I got to replace it just wasn't as good frankly
I use to have a all black 1984 BC RICH Warlock I wish I still had it I sold it in the mid 90s for $250 😢
I had to sell my beloved Peavey T40 bass to a friend to buy tax for the bus that me and my family lived in. I know where it is still.... sat in its case under the guys bed unused since I sold it to him in 1991 and he refuses to sell it back. Heartbreaking.
I went out to buy a guitar in 1983. First guitar shop I went to I could have bought a Fender Mustang with a blue sparkle finish for £69. At the time, Fender Mustangs were looked down upon and I passed. Wonder what it might be worth now?
I would first have to turn loose of guitars. Right now i am just accumulating and not letting them go. And i really have got to start making this happen. Now.
And btw, i have an 05 squier affinity strat that i love. I use it as a test mule for a lot of things, but i dont foresee ever getting rid of it.

My biggest regret is a Yamaha Pacifica I got for Christmas in 1996. It was my second guitar but my first nice guitar (first was a satellite strat copy and it was a bit crap). Sold it it when i didn't need to. Id used it on all the recordings i made up until 2003. 😢
Sometimes I got a quenstion and think " Go ask Dave" 🤠
We all (I at least) sold and bought gear that in retrospect was not so smart 😅
