  • 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor - Finally a good Off-Road Ranger?
Tremor Off-Road Package designed to help owners tackle even rougher off-road terrain without compromising Ranger’s payload and tow ratings. 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor goes beyond today’s already-capable FX4 Off-Road Package, making it the most off-road-capable factory-built Ranger ever offered in the U.S.
Tremor starts with a lifted suspension, redesigned front knuckles and 32-inch Continental General Grabber™ A/TX all-terrain tires on new 17-inch Magnetic-painted wheels that combine to deliver 9.7 inches of ground clearance - 0.8 inches more than the base Ranger SuperCrew 4x4.
FOX™ 2.0 monotube dampers with rear piggyback reservoirs and hydraulic rebound stops are tuned for a comfortable ride on pavement while offering control over severe terrain. The shocks are specially tuned with progressive rebound end zone damping to support vehicle control where the pavement ends. Front and rear springs are tuned for greater off-road composure. A multi-leaf rear spring setup enables increased wheel travel. Anti-roll bar stiffness has been reduced to minimize disruption over rough terrain and improve comfort off-road.
Tremor boosts Ranger’s off-road metrics, including a 30.9-degree approach angle, up 2.2 degrees from the base SuperCrew 4x4, a 25.5-degree departure angle, which is up 0.1 degrees and a 24.2-degree breakover angle, up 2.7 degrees.
Compared to base Ranger, front suspension travel increases to 6.5 inches. Rear suspension travel increases to 8.1 inches. Together, these improvements mean customers can confidently tackle more challenging terrain on their way to their next epic destination.
Ranger Tremor includes a frame-mounted steel front bash plate and underbody skid plates, rear locking differential, Terrain Management System™ with four distinct drive modes and Trail Control™. Tremor’s traction control system is recalibrated for improved acceleration and traction in gravel, so customers can punch it in a washout with gusto.
Ranger Tremor comes with two new recovery hooks in the rear, in addition to the two up front. It takes a wider profile thanks to the Tremor-specific General Grabber all-terrain tires, wheels and wider wheel lip moldings. New hoop steps give Ranger Tremor additional off-road styling and functionality without sacrificing ground clearance.
Despite its improved off-road capability, Tremor maintains Ranger’s utility in everyday adventures with a smooth, comfortable on-road ride, plus 1,430-pound maximum payload and available 7,500-pound maximum towing capacity, so customers can haul bikes, boats, campers and other gear on their adventures.
Ranger Tremor comes with the proven 2.3-liter EcoBoost® engine with 270 horsepower and best-in-class gas torque of 310 lb.-ft., paired to a class-exclusive 10-speed automatic transmission and standard 4x4 with electronic locking rear differential.

    22 lariat tremor owner.
Drove the new pro 4x, trd pro, zr2 and gladiator.
I like to offroad mildly and drive fast every once in a while…
Ranger is the best combination of speed/capbility.
Its the fastest of the bunch, can offeoad just as well as any truck, fox suspension stock.
Looks are subjective, everything is meant to break, INCLUDING toyota.
    Get a ranger.

I have that very truck, and love it. Only had it for two weeks now, but so far it is exceeded my expectations. I am getting 22 MPG driving in the Dallas/Fort Worth traffic. That is over the advertised 19 MPG.
Even though I have had the truck for only 2 weeks, I have made 2 distance trips on it. I bought the truck in San Antonio which is 6 hours away, and had a spray in bedliner placed in Waco a little under 2 hours away. Both drives were great.
Engine power is incredible, and handling is fantastic.
I do agree on the lane prevention technology. It works a lot better in our 2019 Escape.
I don't find the road noise to be loud, as he reported, but this could be due the fact that they filled my tire with nitrogen. I have not heard that there is an impact tire sound with nitrogen, but that is the difference between his tires and mine. My tire are currently at 40 psi.
I find the brakes a bit soft. Nothing to complain about, but definitely something to get use to.
Overall a very fun truck to own. Love the looks I get even from a full size dominate area like it in Texas.

Ford brakes are always mushy- I hate them. change front pads and fluid after break-in and you'll be happy. I've used EBC and Powerstop and both are way better than stock.

I have the FX4 and most is like that one but the tire size was smaller and getting it in a 32 with the cv's being leveled....a huge plus. I would like step rails for mine since lifted now but ground clearance and any weight on the bar that could possibly damage my cab....I'LL pass. Love the review.

For determining fuel efficiency you should wait until after the break in period. You should do a gas journal for about 4 fill ups or more for both off road and on road. So before you go off road for the weekend for a few days fill up your tank and fill it back up when you're done. The same applies to your regular commute: fill up on Sunday then fill it back up at the end of the week or when you get below a quarter tank (whichever comes first). That should give you a more accurate fuel efficiency because it will be based on your actual driving habits and conditions. Log in the journal rain and other weather or traffic conditions (traffic jams & slow downs due to road construction road, accidents, etc.). It will give you a more accurate representation of your fuel consumption. Then you can do an average from all of the entries and/or standard deviation (if you're a nerd like me).

I test drove a FX4 and a Tremor. The Tremor had a better ride and I liked the switches. The Tremor gets its ground clearance from the size of the tires. It might have a little bit of lift but I wonder just how much. Yes, the Tremor has different shocks than the FX4 so the springs might be different as well. However I still don't think the Tremor is worth the extra cost.
From reviews I've seen I'd be replace the tires on both vehicles. Not to many people like the Hankooks that come on the FX4 or the General Grabbers that come on the Tremor. Having trading in a 2019 Frontier Pro 4X I can tell you the Hankooks that come on both the Frontier and Ranger suck. So IMO that's a wash. Not sure if I'd replace the coil overs and rear shocks with a lift kit ib the Tremor but on the FX4 yes I am. Really other than the special seats, stickers, tires and suspension there is nothing on a Tremor package that doesn't come with the FX4. Really the only thing I can't replace at this point in time is the seats. Everything else I can do on an FX4 and get better or at a lower cost.
When I test drove the Tremor and FX4 the salesman let me go into this dirt lot. The ride in the Tremor was better. The dirt lot had this deep ditch in it that I drove through. The ditch is deeper than the truck is long and the walls of the ditch were at a pretty steep angle. Both the FX4 and the Tremor went across the ditch in 4x2 without the locker engaged with no problem. As I was going up and down the side of the ditch I couldn't see across the ditch and was at a very steep angle.
At the end of the day I bought a FX4 to the salesman and sales manager surprise and I'm glad I did. The sale manager and salesman pissed me off so I walked out and didn't go back. They still tried contacting me for another 3 days after that about the Tremor before they either sold it or gave up. LOL. I bought a FX4 and I'm glad I did. I just ordered the Ford Performance Fox 2.0 suspension for it. It comes with Fox 2.0 shocks all around so the only thing it doesn't have is the Fox 2.5s on the rear of the Tremor. Not sure that will make a difference in my case though. I will get larger tires. I probably won't be able to do a comparison between both the upgraded FX4 and the Tremor since I only test drove the Tremor once.

I had those general grabbers and learned really quick that they love to pick up rocks and throw them/spin them off right at your truck chipping paint. They also aren’t as good as you’d think considering they’re kind of a bfg copycat. Terrible in heavy snow also. So I’d have to replace those right off the bat. Otherwise the tremor looks nice!

It needs a few extra things. I love Ford and Ford is what I drive. But the ranger needs a few things. Need a front locking diff. Needs a larger gas tank, need the outlet in the truck bed, the craw control needs to be more aggressive. And would be awesome in the 3.2 l diesel engine. And would be nice if it had four link coilover rear suspension. Like the Ford ranger raptor.

I almost agree with you! I think it needs a Torsen front axel, trail turn assist, and rear 4 link coil overs would be a cool option for those that aren’t concerned about payload. It would be great to have bed lights, and an outlet.
