  • I purchased this 1962 Tonka Cement Truck off the Facebook exchange early May of 2020. It was extremely rusted, the drum was yellowed and cracked, it was missing the cement funnel and overall was crying out to be restored.

I was born in 1972 in Seoul, Korea.
I had this when I was a kid. I certainly remember the 'Tonka' logo.
Mine was orange color and the front part looked a little different.
Thank you for remembering me of my childhood.

Though I’m a woman I had several tonka vehicles thanks to a grandfather who didn’t discriminate. My male cousins also got the same. I had the Allied Van lines moving van, the multi-car transport semi, and the fire engine and the road grader. They were all from the late 60’s early 70’s. Like you, I sure had fun playing in the dirt, making roads etc. And I still grew up to be a nurse and I don’t suffer any gender identity problems.

Nice, I had that as a child. A jealous friend stomped on the drum and smashed it just because he knew it was my newest and favorite toy at that time. I didn't talk to him for years after that. Haha, children's tragedies.

That was amazing. The fact that you cut out the rusted metal and replaced it and made sure every curve and bend matched the original is great attention to detail. That is how they restore an actual truck.

Thank you for providing the list of supplies and providers. I have a pair of pickup trucks I received for Christmas in the mid-60s ( I told both grandmothers I needed a truck, LOL ) Now I am planning to restore at least one out of the two to give my grandson for Christmas 2020. They were much loved and were played with hard. I hope I can get one looking good again.

When I was bored, I watched it every day, but I think it's good to fix it because it's like a doctor of a toy. It's like giving life. If the toys can come alive when there is no person, like the toys in Toy Story, all the toys may one day give you a great gift with a great gratitude and feeling of being born again.

Fantastic Cement Mixer😎. I had the smaller one and packed the barrel with clay, green clay. I was never able to get it all out. I was Very impressed that you repaired the cab instead of getting a replacement from another truck. Tonka made millions of those cabs. You did an excellent job with the repair too. You welded so that you didn't risk warping the steel👍. In the end I only saw a minute amount of filler, Brilliant work. I have been watching many of your restorations and you spend a lot of time wet sanding to get the paintwork just right, The vehicles come out so well, and the sanding is well beyond my level of patience.👍

This restoration was one of the best I've seen done by anyone. Even Rescue and Restore should be impressed. Keep the video's coming - you (and your little sheep) are amazing!
