    • @hybridvigga
      @hybridvigga 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      George Lucas was being a bit of an arrogant prick back then, and the Screen Directors guild at the time had a rule you had to list the Director BEFORE the film title or anything else, and George Lucas refused to put (HIS OWN, in his defence) name before the text crawl on New Hope.
      Then instead of explaining it being a thematic thing to just have the crawl first, and that it was his own name as Director he wasn't putting on there as the head of the film company, his response was, verbatim, "go f*ck yourself b*tches, I'll do what I want, its my film and I own the production company." Then the screen Directors guild were being just as arrogant and threatened to blacklist director who worked on Star Wars, and ban them from getting Oscars, because Lucas wasn't showing them enough respect.
      Spielberg, who didn't have a share in Dreamworks at that time, needed other studios to hire him and wanted to keep being nominated for Oscars, so had to turn it down. He did however direct the Mustafar fight scene at the end of Episode III though.

    • @hybridvigga
      @hybridvigga 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      After he finished, they brought someone else in to reshoot extra scenes that altered things and changed parts of the story. Which is why there are so many things in the trailer you don't see in the finished film (the whole team confronting Krennick on the the beach, Jin staring down a Tie-Fighter, the robot in scenes that take place AFTER he dies in the reshot bits etc...)
      Imagine it as a subway, Gareth Edwards is the guy who starts at 4am to make the dough they bake bread with all day, the film is a meatball sandwich you buy at 10pm made by someone else hours after the bread guy went home and isn't there anymore, so who made your sandwich?
      Changing who gets listed as Director involves them paying off Gareth and throwing away ALL his bread and making some more. Same reason Joss Whedon isn't credited as director on Justice League and Zac Snyder still is.

    • @StuartLugsden
      @StuartLugsden 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    For at least some shots in the Rogue One trailer, Gatheth Edwards deliberately shot any random thing he thought looked cool to use for trailers, sort of knowing it wouldn't be used in the movie. Which I think is a pretty good idea, because it worked really well here. The trailers did a great job of showing you what kind of movie it'd be, but also didn't spoil anything because half the shots werent actually in the movie.
    Its a shame the Jyn vs TIE shot didn't make it in though, that was a really cool shot.

    The original plans of Lucas for episode VII were insane. Basically the protagonists would go to a microuniverse and meet a race that controlled the Midichlorians or something like that. George himself said fans would've hate it (though to be fair, it's hard to release a Star Wars movie and not have at least part of the fandom to hate it). Weird as it sounds I find it fascinating.

    We do know what Rogue One's ending originally was (kind of). Gareth Edwards stated that those shots of the team running across the beach in the trailer was actually the team running towards the transmission tower after they got the death star plans from that archive room. Originally the transmission tower was NOT part of the same base, but when it came to editing the movie they felt it was too long and wanted to compress the story a bit, so in the reshoots they simply made it so the transmission tower WAS part of the main base so all those shots of the team running across the beach facing off against the AT-ACT's were cut.

    You’re the only other person besides myself that I’ve heard say the Rogue One space battle was tippity tops so I felt like I understood and we had a connection you but then you said the Darth Vader scene at the end was only “good” and you “liked it” while I think it’s the greatest scene ever from the whole franchise so now I feel like I don’t know who you are and there’s a rift between us. Your move.

    I don’t know if this counts, but there were multiple replacement directors on The Wizard of Oz. The first director, Norman Taurog, who only did some early Technicolor tests, was replaced by Richard Thorp, who did about two weeks of filming. Feeling like he was rushing production, Mervyn LeRoy replaced Thorp with George Cukor. Cukor didn’t actually film anything, instead he acted more as a “creative advisor” until he had to leave due to a prior commitment of filming Gone with the Wind, and was replaced by Victor Fleming. The main director who did the most filming, Victor Fleming, was forced to leave the filming by the studio to help film Gone With the Wind after that movie was experiencing some issues. Fleming was then replaced with King Vidor who was assigned to finish the film, and he was the one to direct the Kansas scenes. Heck, even on IMDB, Mervyn LeRoy, one of the producers, is listed as an uncredited director.

    George Lucas did say what his films would have been about. It was more Midichlorians and The Whils controlling the Force.
    "“Everyone hated it in Phantom Menace [when] we started to talk about midi-chlorians,” Lucas tells Cameron, who conducts the interview. “There’s a whole aspect to that movie that is about symbiotic relationships. To make you look and see that we aren’t the boss. That there’s an ecosystem.”
    And how would that have related to the sequels? “[The next three Star Wars films] were going to get into a microbiotic world,” he continues. ”But there’s this world of creatures that operate differently than we do. I call them the Whills. And the Whills are the ones who actually control the universe. They feed off the Force.”
    “Back in the day, I used to say ultimately what this means is we were just cars, vehicles for the Whills to travel around,” Lucas tells Cameron. “We’re vessels for them. And the conduct is the midi-chlorians. The midi-chlorians are the ones that communicate with the Whills. The Whills, in a general sense, they are the Force.
    GL: If I’d held onto the company I could have done it, and then it would have been done. Of course, a lot of the fans would have hated it, just like they did Phantom Menace and everything, but at least the whole story from beginning to end would be told."

    A lot of people complain about Alien 3 given how good the first two were in comparison but considering the development hell that film went through I'm amazed it turned out as well as it did. The director's cut/alternate scenes aren't great so I think they made the right call.
