Because of her successful performances in the earlier rounds on the competition, the judges gave Diana more of a free-hand with Rechenka. Diana was involved in all sides - lighting, costumes, choreography, etc. This performance was largely 'directed' by Diana - at 14!!!!

@@hakatenele1075 If my memory serves me correctly, I think Diana said it in an interview, which may be on one of her 3 TH-cam sites. She also mentioned that the show added a bit of a backing voice to part of 'wicked game', which she didn't know about or agree to. Having followed Diana's career for 3 years, it is hard to remember which piece of info came from where.

But I've never heard of that particular thing of having or taking so much of an influence on her appearances on the television shows.
I always wonder how creative she is because apparently her songwriting skills are not that good yet. So she is always dependent on song material from other artists. That could be a problem for Diana in the long run, wanting to become a real, world-renowned artist while remaining true to herself. The future will show us. However. Stay safe and healthy. Once she has the life experience, she'll gain the confidence to draw from that to write her songs. Irina, the woman you were curious about, is her adopted mother. When she was in the orphanage, Irina's teenaged daughter wanted to adopt her (Diana was around 4 years old), so Irina acquiesced. Basically it was life saving moment for Diana inasmuch as Irina and her daughter were all in. Irina kept her on a path singing & acting loving her like she was her own biological daughter. I can't tell you how lucky Diana was.
As a bonus treat, I'm giving you to a link that I believe was the first musical that Diana was in - big production all things considered. Another awesome aspect about this performance that is often overlooked is that she is singing to a pre-recorded track which doesn't have any noticeable rhythm/beat to speak of for 2/3 of the song (the first and last parts of the song). With all things being equal, it is extremely difficult to time your vocals to a drone that changes periodically... and she did it flawlessly! It is just another reason why this performance, especially at 14 years of age, is second to none.
That's right. Now Diana at her concerts, often performs this song a cappella, and this is another level of complexity.

This is an old Russian ritual song: An orphan girl should to get married and goes to the river, the border between the living and the dead, and asks her mother for the blessing (mother's whisper) ... The horses are in the courtyard. The guests are gathered and the wedding celebration begins. In Russia, it was customary to sing sad songs at weddings to scare off evil. This should drive away evil spirits and bring good luck. Such songs were called 'crying'.

What a great find! Really a fun reaction, thanks. At the age of about 13 she auditioned on a show for children and sang/yodeled. It is called 'Jodel Time'...really extraordinary...the audience absolutely loved her but the judges didn't turn their chairs around, even though they were obviously fascinated by her voice. They asked her to sing something else and she sang a French song acapella...but she was not chosen. What did she do? As the audience cheered her, she went up and gave the judges a hug! Completely captivating performer, even at the age of 13! I'd say watch her do Elvis' 'Can't Help Falling in Love' (fantastic -- she makes it an entirely new song). And also you could do 'Wicked Game' and 'Rechenka' both at the age of about 15 in singing contests... utterly spectacular voice! Also she sings a beautiful and uplifting 'Into the Sky!' Enjoyed your comments on her....the background is as extraordinary as the performer. At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the first to recognize something special in this little girl, and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment. Only two years later she started singing in local theater, and in street plays and performances. And soon after was entered in a Russian TV music competition for disadvantaged children. By the age of 10 she was winning local competitions, singing on live TV shows, and her songs started showing up on TH-cam. When a language is transliterated into English it is generally spelled phonetically. So it is "Re-Chinka" (try to say it with a Russian accent if you like). And say Ahn-koo-DEE-no-vah with accent on the "DEE.
