Great review Manny. I’m more of a Phoenix fan myself. I can’t help but laugh when I see this costume of her, makes me think of that one part of the X-Men TAS where the Xmen fought Apocalypse and she tripped on Wolverine.
This looks great with Marvel Legends but it looks even better with her Mafex counterparts. It’s definitely should’ve came with more effect parts because Gambit and Cyclops had quite a bit of them.
You've gotta be honest..mafex have really upped their game in the last 18 months/ 2 years regarding QC issues..possibly one of the finest toy lines in today's market
Oh of course. No doubt about that. I was collecting them when their QC was god awful but they’ve improved those changes drastically. I still get some issues from time to time but nowhere near as bad as before.
Wow, I've never seen a 6-inch Jean Grey action figure that looks like she has a complete skull inside her head before. Very nice! Marvel Legends should try that sometime.

For those who finds import prices little higher try getting it from amiami or mandarake, it comes at lot cheaper price than something like bbts ..it works better for me
@@Xmanny87 yes exactly plus you can save more by choosing surface shipping. Yes surface shipping takes like 2monts of time to deliver but bbts will get it after 2 -3 months later than Japanese release anyway. You can get an import for the price of 3-4 domestic figures.And when the import figure is done right I feel like it's an investment . More often than not domestic figures comes with updates for the same figures after few years and when it happens you feel the need to upgrade it but take an example of mafex hush superman will you feel the need to upgrade it after few years. Personally what I feel is I will rather have a single import than 3-4 domestic figures
Dope review! Invest in some silicone shock oil my man, it’s a life saver I pretty much use it for everyone of my mafex purchases and it makes a huge difference!
Jean Grey is my favorite character of all time. I would love this figure, but the price would do me in. Watching your review, I feel okay not having it, even though it is a great figure. Some of the issues with it I'm not sure I could get past. Good job!
A John Byrne style phoenix is more my era. With a full phoenix effect background and a stand would be awesome. Or maybe a marvel girl/ phoenix/ Black queen 3 pack! I'd be there for that!
Honestly I don't see why female figures are so difficult to do, this looks amazing as most MAFEX do, but you really pointed out a bunch of really good QC and all round manufacturing issues, I really need MAFEX to nail female figures cause ML won't budge in making the best product they can and no one else is making comic accurate characters I care about, SHF has my attention but they scale oddly, but they articulate hair which is imo the best thing for any female character, imagine this Jean with articulated points in her hair to move so she can look up, or like it falls on the shoulders like natural hair tends to do( being bald I wouldn't know), similar to the shf ssj4 Goku, cause I'm planning to get STORM and can already tell the head is limited, but I need STORM so yeah, this review was super helpful, sorry for the rant
Another great review as always!!! I do have to disagree with you on your take on the proportions. When it comes to these Mafex comic figures they tend to lean very heavily towards to actual source material. This is based off Jim Lee’s art style the long thighs and calves that he does for all his female characters is very accurate to the comics. Which is done almost spot on here.Where ML seems to have a one size fits all look for their female figures so they all have a certain uniform look.I think the ML version is not good at all and we finally have a definitive Jean Grey action figure IMO
Pretty nice figure, but I'm hoping Mafex will make a more orange version and make some of those changes you suggested, like blue shoulder cover and gold thigh armor. MAFEX Wolverine and Cyclops both got variants so it's not impossible.
I don't think I could un-see the paint not covering on the mask, I'm kind of surprised they didn't do that as two pieces. It's too bad, otherwise it's a good face. Definitely not regretting passing on this one after seeing a few reviews. It looks pretty good, but I just don't think the value is there.
I have a question for the Mafex lovers. Why does Mafex focus on the wolverines and Captain Americas, but not the characters hasbro won’t do, Holbein Queen, Mafisto, shanna the she devil. All the Ghost Riders????? Everyone is mad at hasbro for not doing those, what is stopping Mafex from filling that gap?!?! Who is mafex’s “Dan Yun?!?” Do they even have a point of contact?
Great review! I just want the female xmen characters like storm next. I believe we are getting a legends gambit with a feature to take the coat off I heard Dwight make a comment about at on a live stream months back when a fan mentioned how good the mafex version is.
Great review and posing. I wish she could look up more. I think you're spot on with wanting more effects and the leg/calf proportions. I'm glad I ordered this but I do wish there was more sculpting/defined curves on the figure. She almost looks like she's wearing a diaper from some angles especially when compared to Marvel Legends.
You and I seem to be in the minority Manny, but I really like her face as well. It has some character. I’m not a fan of the pauldrons either, and they’re pain to get back on if/when they pop off. Hasbro did a much better job there. We seem to be on the same page in general with what we like and don’t like about the figure. She’s a 8/10 for me personally as well, but I can see how others might not feel the same.

You’re never too old to collect toys. The amount of people that I’ve met that don’t know anything about the hobby but that are extremely interested in hearing my story and what got me collecting is way more than I ever thought it would be. People like when people are passionate about things.

She never collected or anything prior to meeting me but appreciated and respected the fact that collecting figures is a hobby of mine and even she has little collections of funkos and other stuff she likes after seeing mine . Some people might not get it, but in the end it won’t prevent you from finding a partner, being yourself isn’t shameful. There are far worse hobbies to have than collecting figures. Enjoy the hobby, enjoy your collection and share it with those you want to :) I’ve actually made a ton of friends in the community that share the same passion as me, but like it was said in a previous post, friends that might give you crap nonstop for collecting aren’t your real friends

Some good points. I know Jim Lee’s style but I don’t think the legs translated well into plastic form and that’s just my opinion.
