    Ya gotta love Ronnie, she’s a survivor. I don’t know how anybody could come through that level of emotional abuse and find balance again. I’m really glad that Ronnie found her way back to the light after being surrounded by that darkness.

      I have read Ronnie's memoirs several times.....she went through hell in the seventies. It took her a very long time to that balance again and much of it is thanks to her mom's good counsel. Steer clear of guys with anger issues and a need for control. Phil was seriously damaged by his father's suicide and likely at the root of his problems.

      @@msr1116 I think despite his father's suicide, he could have been better nurtured by his mother, but she was a shitty one, and his sister was kind of spoiled for what I can gather. Dysfunctional family.

    She didn't know how she did what she did with her songs. That's because she was gifted with natural talent. What an awesome lady. It's hard to believe she's gone but certainly won't be forgotten.
    I had hoped she would have lived a long and happy life with her new family (after Phil Spector's passing) but it just wasn't meant to be. Some people just don't get the good breaks in life. I still listen to all of her songs and enjoy them. She was only a few years older than I am. I always enjoyed the 1960s girl groups and I always will. We'll miss you, Ronnie.

      I would see Ronnie yearly since 2003 at one of our CT casinos. She would do her Christmas shows and I watched how the crowds grew bigger and bigger with each year. The last time we saw her was 2019. Covid came and stopped many from performing. Losing Supremes Mary Wilson then a year later Ronnie Spector was very hard for me. Loved these ladies since a kid in the 60s. A neighbor came to our house with the 45 record Walking In The Rain. The record cover was a picture of these three beauties who looked Hispanic to us. Loved this record ever since. Phil Spector was awesome recording great artists but fizzed out by the late 60s. Another great song he produced was Black Pearl from 1969. I loved that song too! Another Phil’s best.

    I was a teenager when this wonderful song came out and I stll recall the lyrics. Once the British music invasion started in early 1964, great American youthful music like The Ronettes faced unprecedented competition for the radio air time it deserved, and so their record sales must have suffered. I loved both the American and the British music.

    Phil wasn’t a genius but he thought he was. Little things prove that. When he produced his Christmas album they included the song “Sleigh Ride” with Ronnie singing lead. When they got to the phrase “birds of a feather”, British for “people who are alike”, Ronnie sang it “birds off a feather”. Ronnie was from Washington Heights and was unfamiliar with the British term. Phil was from Brooklyn and didn’t know the term either and didn’t check the spelling so it was never fixed. And every Christmas since 1963 when that song airs on the radio and I hear Ronnie sing “birds off a feather”, I laugh and think “Phil the genius!”.

    As far as Phil Spector being a genius... I think that's overrated... Brian Wilson thought he was good but I also think Brian was a scared of them.... Paul McCartney thought it was a lot of unnecessary noise the wall of sound..... I think he was just lucky to have a lot of very good musicians come around him.

    • @jimmynew-man6882
      @jimmynew-man6882 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      As talented as Phil was, the songs were great because of the real genius of the SONGWRITERS.
      Mann/Weil, Greenwich/Barry and King/Goffin, the skill of producer Nitzkie and all those gifted musicians are why those songs have become immortal.
      I have always believed that Phil didn't know when to stop with his quest and obsession for "perfection" and so he ended up OVERPRODUCING the sound. Only occasionally did it work. Most of the time his efforts just created a lot of unnecessary noise.
