I cried upon hearing this because it nails the deep spiritual feelings of reunion and celebration surrounding Samhain. It's no coincidence that Dia de Los Muertos is celebrated near the same time and are similar festivals. The presence of the Mighty Dead is strong on these nights
One of my favorite songs by Caravan of Thieves and especially poignant today. My best friend of two decades passed away a few days ago. She didn't want a funeral. She didn't want people crying and carrying on. She wanted a celebration. And this song...this song is what will be playing in my head as i bid her farewell...for now.
So sorry for your loss but happy to hear this song will bring joy and comfort. Life is a celebration and that's the message we hope to convey with this song :)
I´m from México so here we have the Day of the Deads (Día de Muertos) and this song actually gets what we do in that day. We share time with those who had to leave us, they are conduced by the smell of flower to a big feast where there's food, water, drinks, cigarretes, candy, everything they liked when they were still alive, some of us even leave some music on so they can dance. And you know, it doesn't matter if you believe dead raise again, we all have fun that day it gets us together to celebrate life. Thank you for making this song, you guys are awesome, this really captures some of my culture (even if that wasn't the point haha).
Luis Miranda we are aware of the day of the dead but didn't find out about it till after the song was written, so just an amazing coincidence. Its a really neat idea and happy to be tied to such a great tradition. Cheers!

Sixteen years ago, the only person, outside of family, that I ever loved passed away as I watched. The words of this song bring equal parts sadness in memory of her, and joy in the thought of talking to her once more.

I chanced upon this band while at Musikest in Bethlehem, PA a few nights ago. As their set concluded, they came off the stage to a small area nearby. The crowd gathered around them and they performed this song. It was one of those magical moments that one would never forget. What a delightful band and song!

Still was an epic day in my vast array of memories
Had the pleasure of seeing them this past weekend for the first time. An awesome, unique experience. They finish with their signature song, Raise the Dead, where, ironically, they ask the audience to stand. It has been over a week, and both curse them and bless them, I cannot get that song out of my mind.

My good friend Rob does up a compilation CD every Christmas with a mixture of different artists and genres. This was on one of the recent ones and quickly became my favorite. Hard to put my finger on any one thing that endears it to me. I simply love the whole mishmash.
