Trying the Jimmy White 2-Rail Escape Shot | Your Average Pool Player

  • The Mosconi Cup has always been about the best pool players in America vs the best pool players in Europe, but in the 1990s, a bunch of hot shot snooker players got called in to play for the European side. One of those snooker players was Jimmy White, and when Mike Massey and Bobby Hunter put Jimmy White and Alex Higgins in a bind, Jimmy had no choice but to shoot his way out. The life story of Jimmy White is really interesting, and I encourage anyone who's interested to read or watch more about it.
    As always, if you want to suggest a shot, let me know in the comments.
    The track used in the video is 'Rest' by Otis McDonald

    Jimmy White was an astonishingly skilled snooker player too; he could play shots no-one else would dream of playing. Famously, he reached six world championship finals, and lost them all, but he won the UK and the Masters, and spent 21 consecutive seasons in the top 16, so he has nothing to reproach himself for really. Now an insightful TV analyst.

      @@steviegbcool Why is it that despite the numerous titles Jimmy won, he gets the ridiculous bottled it claim that none of the other players get when they do not win a title?
      Is it purely because he never won the world title?

    I really think that getting the shot a second time is more representative of has difficult the shot actually is. And that it wasn't a fluke.
    I hope you keep doing this, even though it might be painful at times. I'll concede that if it takes over 100 attempts to get it once, you don't have to do it again. :)

  • @julianwaddell3411

    The 4 ball in the Jimmy shot looks much closer to the rail than the 2 ball in yours. The cue ball hitting the 8 after contact in your video seems to confirm this. Good video anyways

    • @panagiotisantonopoulos4796
      @panagiotisantonopoulos4796 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And that's why Jimmy White played the shot with more speed and more side spin so he could clear the 9ball and also swerve more into the side rail to pot the 4ball (the side by side shot @ 5th minute portrays that clearly). Nevertheless, Rollie got the shot mechanics figured out and would probably hit the exact same shot as the original one with just a few tries more. What I consider amazing though in that shot, or any other extraordinary shot, made by Jimmy White (or any other legendary player on any form of pool) is not the "I made it on the 1st try" but the imagination applied to resolving a problem.

    • @Spiritchuckpvp
      @Spiritchuckpvp 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Another thing too is that Jimmy obviously put a lot of Draw/Screw back on the cue ball in addition to the left spin, look at how the cue ball rips away from the tangent in the Jimmy shot. I'd go so far as to say the shot was mostly backspin with a bit of left side, probably like a 7 o'clock hit.
      Don't know how he missed that detail, the back spin is literally what gives him the shot on the 5.

    Jimmy White - national treasure. Alex Higgins - national treasure AND a tragic story. I don't know how many American viewers will know anything about just how iconic they were, especially Jimmy, runner up in the snooker world championships six times. They both hugely transcended snooker. The 'it's a kind of magic!' commentator is the late great Sid Waddell who usually commentated on darts in an extremely eccentric way before his own premature end a few years ago.
