Thank you! I would not have known to cycle through the gears or to adjust the bands without this video. Very thorough and much appreciated! I replaced my pan with a new Doorman with the drain plug while I was at it so I could change it more often. Fluid was pretty nasty after 75k!
EXCELLENT DEMONSTRATION TUTORIAL!! I give you two thumbs up! Very thorough! Greatly appreciate all the little pieces of information advised to keep it tightly cleaned, tool size needed, as well as torque settings, and ESPECIALLY how to tighten up the bands!! Great job my friend.. Definitely subscribing to your channel and thumbs up on your videos! You're awesome and a life saver 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you millions , mine will slip out of g ear sometimes when its cold out at a stop sign. Low idle. Otherwise works fine. Would adj the bands fix this ? Your awesome !
I decided to use sealant since I wasn't replacing the rusty pan. If your pan is in good shape, then you don't really need sealant if you have a good quality replacement gasket. I didn't have any leaks at all, but I've since changed the rusty pan to a new pan with a drain plug. I didn't use sealant on the new pan and gasket and have no issues so far.
@@deuceliter I appreciate the editing on the video. So many guy just show every single second of the whole thing. Cutting out and speeding up the video was a great move. I’d love to have a drain plug. What brand pan did you go with?
My dad has a 2001 1500 2wd v8 magnum when he stops and tries to go again the truck jolts some as it goes into gear would doing a transmission drain and fill with filter and adjusting the bands fix the issue also it has 150k on it amd the transmission has never been serviced
Great and super informative video, I was just getting ready to do this on my truck today. My Transmission is actually shifting great with no slips however the issue I’m having is when pulling my trailer with the overdrive off lately it’s been having issues with lack of power only when going up hills. Also my transmission temp light comes on occasionally. I’ve checked the fluid it doesn’t smell burnt but has a grayish color so that’s the reason I’ve decided to change the fluid and filter. Do you have any idea what my problem could be torque converter possibly? As I mentioned before gears are shifting fine there’s no shuddering just temp light then lack of power going up hills this is only when I’m pulling my trailer. Running my truck without it I don’t have any issues
Changing the fluid may help since you're saying the fluid is grey. Could also be the weight of the trailer, among a few other things. Since you're towing a lot, it may also be a good idea to run a trans cooler if you don't already have one.
Hello sir! I really appreciate your video. My dodge Ram 1998 46re 4x4 194k with miles. It is currently slipping on second gear. It appears to be the ring band that needs to be adjusted from what I’ve seen online . I am planning on adjusting the front band. Does the rear band adjustment inside oil pan need to be adjusted as well or can I just do the front? I really appreciate your feedback.
My 01 dodge ram 1500 makes wining sound when i start to get to 25 mile per hour but shifts most time some times i have to let off gas and it will shift its rare inhave to do tht would this help it?
Hopefully someone can shine some light on my issue. I have a 95 Ram 1500 with the 46RH and the front band screw is a square bolt, is this procedure the same as the RE variants?
It was around 4.8 qts if I remember correctly. Maybe different for each person, though, so keep an eye on it for a couple of days and make sure fluid level is good and top it off if necessary.
I have a 2nd gen and when it goes to 4th gear my car starts shaking awfully and recently it just completely stopped out of nowhere i don’t know what happened lol. But what i can do for it to not happen again?
You need to adjust the overdrive band. Drop the pan an adjust both bands. One on side of trans is for 2nd gear. The band inside trans is for overdrive. Sounds like your overdrive band is really loose.
If you don't have reverse, then a fluid change most likely won't help reverse come back. If you change the fluid, you'll most likely find a snap ring in the bottom of the pan. Or it could be an issue with the rear band or several other things but hard to know without a full diagnosis.
You should have got the upgraded 3/4 accumlator spring. Mine wasnt broke an soon as i drove 5 miles the spring broke on me. They sale a new upgraded one for 10 bucks. Its .136 longer
It cant be stated enough how great the quality of this video is. Thank you!

Dude, just wanted to say thank you for this. Exactly what I needed to do on my truck.
No problem, I'm glad to help out!
For anyone searching, the tool for that square bolt is a 5/16" Square Female Pipe Plug Socket.
Exceptional presentation, thank you sir.

Good vid. I’ve never used sealant with a gasket. I guess it won’t hurt anything

It's worth a try if it's never been serviced. If the fluid is worn out, it will cause it to slip.
Where is the transfer case plug on the 46RE. I can’t find the plugs for my transfer case

You can adjust the front band independently without adjusting the rear.
To adjust both bands. You need to drop the pan. Can only access overdrive band from inside once pan is dropped.

so by removing that pan did that drain all the old oil that is in the transmission or does something else need to be done to finish getting it all out
It doesn't remove all the oil as some is still inside the torque converter. I'd say it removes around half the fluid by removing the pan.
How many quarts did you put?
It was around 4.8 qts if I remember correctly. Maybe different for each person, though, so keep an eye on it for a couple of days and make sure fluid level is good and top it off if necessary.
5.9 Qrts
my dodge ram 1996 5.2l v8 mileage is 371k right now and i dont use for long time..

Will this fix no reverse? I have everything and all gears just no reverse?

Good call, I'll keep that in mind on the next fluid change!
whats the brand name of the thicker spring?
Why does mine have 2 springs?
@@MrTohuskey bc It's broke I'd say
Be sure to check the fluid level with the transmission in neutral NOT Park!
