Thank you for these informative videos explaing the structure of Ravnica. I purchased the book recently, and would love to see a video on tips for creating our own adventures in Ravnica. In particular, some info. on building adventures for younger players (12 and under). Love D&D Beyond and your content guys, keep up the great work
Loving these guides. Obviously you could have your typical kleptomaniac rogue join to amass wealth but this also lends to Paladins and Clerics who are much more grey in morality. Essentially realizing that their god is powerful but not wanting to over rely on their protection and gifts so they use more corporate means to protect the good. One cool character I've found is a Warlock who won a game of poker with a demon and in exchange got a bunch of gold and the warlock class powers. There's also a Barbarian who worked as a debt collector for them. These are very flexible lore bits for character creation.
Excellent ! I love the World building of ravnica. You know it's well done when simply thinking of a regular citizen living in the city would make for a great story !
The exploration of this guild is the one I struggle the most to create a character in. I love how this video gives some good definitions of how a player could build into this guild with the intent of being good but at the same time, it's a headache to play something that is a banker or scorekeeper in my mind. Though I know a few friends who might enjoy that.
The Orzhov aren't all completely evil, and not all of them are necessarily bankers. If you wanna be a charitable lender who works against the evil aims of your superiors, I would say that's a great idea for a character! However, if you're going to go that way and don't wanna encounter any resistance, then Selesnya is definitely your jam.
Giorno Giovana from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure might also be a good source of inspiration for a Good character. Someone who wants to gain power in the organization in order to better the innocent people underneath him and is willing to do whatever it takes to get that power as long as it doesn't violate his personal moral code
I've been playing a relatively benign Orzhov cleric in a game recently and it's a lot of fun. One of very few half elves in the Orzhov, he struggled as his peers just saw "the elf", but eventually won acceptance when he realized "the elf" could sell them mediocre food at inflated prices, making him more or less the founder of the Ravnican equivalent of Whole Foods. He bet on both sides of the Ghost Council-Teysa conflict, then lost everything when Kaya ended up in charge. Adventuring is Plan C: his only way out is to return as a hero and armored in glory.
I'm in this guild in a D&D campaign. I play a sorceress who brings in people to the church for them to donate money to them. And the best part, she knows she can have people come to her during her sermons and hymns. Orzhov's Entertainer as she calls herself.
There have been two official pronunciations and that is one of them. It is the more russian of the two and the guild is russian inspired but as both are official it is just preference based.
I've done a bit of digging and it seems to be a split within wizards staff. Even in this video around the 1:18 mark he slips and uses both. It is very much akin to the Darkseid pronunciation in DC comics.
The pronunciation of Orzhov has always been an issue from what I can tell. There's WotC's way of pronouncing it, but there are also two other pronunciations based on Slavic phonetics (since Ravnica is heavily inspired by eastern Europe) that most of the fanbase uses.
