    Ravnica feels like one of the most interesting plane of Magic to play a campaign in (maybe other than Strixhaven). A giant city with layers and layers of secrets is just so cool

    One idea I had is a dhampir wizard who works as an advokist in the Orzhov Syndicate, with a vampire parent. Imagine a combination of Dracula, Saul Goodman and Tom Hagen from the Godfather. A literal blood sucking lawyer.

    Ravnica is my favorite setting, every guild has its own flavor and its so hard to just pick one, House Dimir is close to my heart tho. Btw a small mispelling in the Golgari Swarm, you wrote and said "Galgari" 😉

    Jace: Peace, I have to do something in another plane *expend 4 months out of Ravnica.*
    Guilds: Well.... Is time to war.
    Campains in this setting are so fun. I DM a session with a Boros minotaur eldrish knight, A human Dimir assassin, A human Azzorius cleric and a Tabaxi monk that was inclined to selesnya but wasn't committed yet. Was REALLY fun to see the bickery in the table!

    I would love to play a guildless Sherlock Holmes style detective, or maybe they do belong to a guild but masquerade as guildless to appear more trustworthy to their many clients. Inquistive Rogue or Masterminf Rogue, maybe mixed with wizard to get detection spells and things to solve mysteries. Seems very cool for a mystery/political intrigue campaign in this setting.

    When the book first came out, I tried to run a Ravnica campaign. I was a new DM and I didn't know how to run a game, much less one set in Ravnica. And so, it fizzled out pretty quickly. But I might write up some notes for one at some point, now that my knowledge and note taking has vastly improved. My party was a Gruul Clan Elf Ranger, an Izzet League Knowledge Cleric/Divination Wizard, and a Golgari Circle of Spores Druid. A bit of a hectic and spread-out group to try and run a game for, all told.

    • @TheClericCorner
      @TheClericCorner  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's fair! Factions within the party could be real difficult without practice!

  • @rpgchronicler
    @rpgchronicler ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So we have ravnica, we have theros, we have strixhaven, bits of planes like Dominaria, Kaladesh and Ixalan and fan takes on planes like Kamigawa, Kaldheim and New Capenna... At this rate a multiversal mtg campaign is literally possible w/o guesswork... The kicker is how to make it uniquely different mechanically speaking from other settings. I wonder if one can fit a 60 card, maybe 30 card instead, of mtg as an alternate combat system with decks built to represent the character's method and philosophy and a color-based alignment system.

    • @paigeepler

      I actually do think about my characters' colors when I'm designing them for MTG plane settings!

  • @levkrasovsky4920

    Honestly, Ravnica as a setting does feel a bit weak and artificial in a vacuum, but it's guilds make for fantastic copy-paste-tweak factions to put into any high magic setting.
    Really enjoyed some of the character ideas here as well, with plenty of newer subclasses being retroactively applied here.

    Hey, my dad's been talking about wanting to run Darksun for my group sometime. I only know that it's a post-apocalyptic climate change allegory, but I was wondering if you could maybe do a video for Darksun character ideas? Great video, btw

  • @tulliusexmisc2191
    @tulliusexmisc2191 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is the best video introduction I have seen to Ravnica as a D&D setting.
    But I disagree about Boros being chaotic. It is full of disciplined soldiers, paladins and even angels. The name 'Legion' should be clue enough, and Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica gives its alignment as "usually good, often lawful".
    There is certainly room to play a chaotic character in Boros. But in time-honoured tradition, when you break the rules, your boss will punish you in some way, or take you off the case.
    In my opinion, chaotic good is the alignment most likely to be guildless. I would imagine Selesnya most likely has the highest proportion of chaotic good members. Of course, Grull and both the mad science guilds are full of people who regard themselves as doing good, but are tragically misunderstood by the more hidebound guilds.
