Wow, your story totally responates with me. I'm the 8th of 9 kids and we all feel like our father was the sacrificial lamb as well. He too was the victim of a botched surgery and then he ultimately died of cancer in 2004. Our family fell completely apart for many years and now we've come full circle and even the atheists in my family are staunch Christians now. I totally believe it was our parents' devotion to the daily Rosary and my father's sacrifices that pulled our family through. I know he prays for us now. Thanks so much for sharing your story...both of you!

I was looking for this video a couple months ago and couldn’t find it, I’m so glad you re-uploaded it!! It’s one of the best interviews I’ve seen on the channel

Again, I just really needed this. It is so timely. I pray for a hope filled resolution to all the suffering coming to our family.

“They don’t deserve the goodwill that we offer them“
That’s exactly the point we don’t deserve the mercy that God gives us through His Precious blood, but He gives it to us anyway so we have to do the same

I want to give up but I keep faith because I know God will change my situation. Lord I’m sick of worrying. Please hear my prayers. I trust in you and keep faith even as I struggle to take care of my children. Like many single parents things are so hard on me. Both of my sons are autistic I’m overwhelmed. I’m constantly struggling to buy groceries and constantly struggling to pay rent and now that I’m home schooling my sons I’m struggling to buy their school supplies. But even in hard times we must choose to have faith. As christians that’s all we can do. No matter your struggle, we can turn to God. He knows us personally and can give us strength to overcome our challenges. The only reason I share my testimony is because we should always keep trust in our Lord he will always provide walk with faith and not by sight!

So it has been made clear to me by what Fr. John Burns said “that you can forgive your enemies but you don’t have to be friends with them if they haven’t changed and still untrustworthy” another priest told me that is called healthy avoidance! 🙏😇✝️💔

Thank you Father for that distinction between forgiveness and reconciliation. That is something I have to keep at the forefront of my mind for a few broken relationships in my life. If I struggle forgiving anyone I struggle forgiving myself. But I know that is Satan working on my mind. He knows how to push my buttons because I spent so much time swimming in his lake. When it gets overwhelming I tell him to leave and call on Christ. Sometimes I'll actually say it out loud if I have a day where I am giving him too much free reign in my mind. I have to be careful about giving rent-free space to anyone up there. I do know the destructive effect hate has on the person doing the hating and as Medgar Evers put it, the problem is half the people you hate don't know and the other half don't care. Thanks for the video. Great discussion.

Revenge reminds me of the word: lesson. I have learned to thank God for the lessons I have learned from my mistakes in my life.

Regarding the things coming to our mind repeatedly - not arguing against any of these advices or St. Thomas Aquinas :)
But it occurred to me that I recently heard an exorcist to explain that demons are able to and commonly do "replay" those things to our mind, again and again, according to our disposition, making the natural much worse.
In that light, a simple advice from Fr. Mark Goring makes even more sense to me. I don't remember it exactly, but it was something like: Realize it and reject it immediately. It's a choice. Turn to something completely else, ideally something good. Additionally invoke God or Mary. Again and again. If we don't do it, the hold they have on us increases, if we do it, it decreases. I can confirm it works, even if only gradually and in the beginning, we fail very often.

Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us
This is a conditional statement that means the Lord will not forgive us if we do not forgive
And then the Lord Devils down immediately after the our father, and says “for if you forgive, then you will be forgiven, and if you do not forgive, neither, will your father forgive you your sins”
