This is the software that I use, well worth the money to me. I most like the fact that it tells you when the rip is done on how confident the accuracy of the rip is.
I used CDparanoia to rip directly to wav files. On some CDs I used CDRDAO which copies the entire CD as is. You can make bit for bit archives for it. It can also lookup a specified CDDB server to import the Metadata as CDText for burning subsequent Copies of the CDs. But yes, no album art at all. If I get a windows machine with an optical drive I'll definitely wanna lookup dbpoweramp. Thank you.
Being using this program since it was first released, the latest is just brilliant, faster than eac and checks to make sure that the rips are accurate a great program i can honestly say best money i have spent on a program does exactly what it supposed to do.
@@Stringbean421 Last time i ripped using eac it took a while to rip each cd, dbpoweramp took minutes so for time saving alone its worth buying, but also lets not forget cuetools can also rip cds...

I am currently importing every single cd I own again, for the same reason. iTunes suddenly decided the meta info for a majority of my music was incorrect and messed everything up. I don't know why. So I searched for program specifically for music, and found this program. It's been 2 days, still transferring (I do it while high, so I tend to forget) the cds, and I'm really impressed by it.

I have ripped my 800+ CD collection using iTunes to an archive three times (!), because when iTunes updated to newer versions it completely mucked up my meta data, even deleted my corrected artwork, and one time because after I allowed iTunes to update to a newer version I forgot to re-tell iTunes not to move my music (even though I had it set correctly before the update) it copied all my archives into the iTunes managed directories and DELETED files in my archive. When I consulted with the Apple "genius" staff on how I might recover or repair my data they strongly tried to up-sell me to re-rip and store all my music collection in the iCloud (lower quality sampling) and pay them $24/year for the privileged of accessing my purchased music. Ha! I will use iTunes and iPhone to playback music but I will NEVER use another Apple product as the sole copy to archive or store data.
Ah, interesting to know I wasn't the only one :-) I too will be using iTunes again, but not until I have the master copies all safely filed away and backed up as FLACs, from which I plan to bulk-create MP3s for actual use!
If you still must use iTunes, turn off the functions that allow it to move and change your files. I chose to never again use the program after I witnessed how easy it was to screw up the metadata. But you can use it as a player only of you block it from changing your files.
I have this software, it's an absolute nightmare to save to the correct folder if you don't want the rips stored in the default "my music". Also, if you make a mistake in some settings, you can't get rid of them. Uninstalling the software won't get rid of them either, untill the next time you do a format:c.

Thanks for the video. Have you had issue with album art on dB? I've used EAC and can't seem to have the album art working when I play them. The jpg is in the folder. Keen to know as I am considering purchasing dB.
Hiya - well, I haven't used it since I did my 'big rip' back in 2016, but yes, it did a pretty good job of finding the album art, storing it in the folder, and then, when I converted them to AAC, attaching the art to the files. But not all software will display it, especially on FLAC files... However, the AAC (.m4a) files I created from my FLACs show the album art as their icon in the Finder, for example.
I'm new to CD ripping and the HiFi culture. After you ripped your CDs, what player do you use to listen and browse through your albums ? I'm trying to find that does not require any form of internet connection. Thanks and great video !
I mostly just put them on a USB stick and plug them into my car stereo. So at the moment my player is made by a company called Tesla. There are cheaper alternatives available :-) 'Vox' is quite a nice little player, I think, on the Mac.
(P.S. I don't, however, buy into the whole 'Hi-Res Sound' thing, though Vox can certainly play them. Whenever I've heard about properly-blinded tests, though, they seem to confirm that almost nobody (above the age of about 25) can hear the difference once you get higher than CD resolution/sample rate. Nothing wrong with having theoretically higher quality, but don't pay too much for it!)

Hi - yes, I mostly ripped them for convenience - I don't have to carry around all those CDs for the rest of my life :-). The FLAC is a lossless encoding, so the data stored in it is exactly the same as on the CD, so the quality is the same when played back through the same equipment. I could convert the FLACs back and burn them to a CD and it would be the same as the original. Of course, you seldom *do* play the two back through the same equipment, so it's a challenge to compare. There may be a value in the network audio adapters - I haven't used them, except for my Sonos amp, which is effectively a network adapter connected to an amp. The quality will depend almost entirely on the amp bit and almost not at all on the network bit if the data is coming from your local network. If it's from a streaming service and your internet connection is occasionally losing occasional data, then how much distortion you hear will depend on the software in the PC/device, and what it does with missing packets. But if that's an issue, then I would spend the money first on a better network connection! Oh, and wired connections are always better than wifi connections if you can manage them!

Well, I haven't tried EAC - it might be a suitable replacement, despite an earlier negative comment here. However, I think it lacks two key things. Firstly, it's Windows-only, which rules it out completely for me. Secondly, I don't think it does the thing of comparing the checksum with a central database to confirm the accuracy of the rip, and the metadata. For both of those reasons, dbPoweramp would have won out for me, even if I'd known about EAC at the time :-)
Ok so i ripped a cd and tried passing thru a usb to my phone and there are some tracks that are not playable it says on them temp.flac files. How can i fix that?
Hi, "I'm Quentin" You never had to backup all your MP3 files. Now this wee mishap should sort you out big time... HA,HA, and ha. Backup and then backup Flash Drives are just so cheep and provide you with lots of space.

In photography i would never use compressed raw. I use raw. Likewise i will never use lossless flac. It will be its original wav. And yes there is a difference. Try a null test.

Protect those backup files from "bitrot" with parity files.

The cd serves as a good backup,Getting rid of your cd's is not a good idea.
I still buy on CD for the backup.

Good choice on FLAC. Apple appears to have dropped their lossless format. Win/Lin guy here - I have NO idea whether you can still use it.

@@quentinsf Windows Media player gets the titles ,artist, playing time,album art and gives the tracks numbers in customable order. Good enough really.

If u dig into the level 5 tab...u will see more options where uncompressed is.
