    It is not just a good software but the "best" premium software for ripping CDDA (Compact Disc Digital Audio).
    I am now using the software for decades. Yeah the premium one.

    I use this ripper, it is worth the money. Updates to the same version number series are free, but if they come out with a new version number as in 16 to 17 they will give you a discount on the new updated version number. It is better to enter the track info in the meta section by clicking the meta tag. Plus sometimes you can see different meta info from different sources if the CD is already in the system and than you can choose the one you think is the most accurate. I like the album art options. I get a lot of my album art from websites and just use the copy and paste from clipboard option. And if you happen to have a scanner hooked to your PC you can even scan the CD image into the program.

    Hello Steve...I have been thinking and thinking and researching cd music rippers and it was all rolling in my head confusing me more and more as I researched. Most my tunes are on ITunes now and when I want to burn various songs, I copy and past the tunes I wish and put them in Documents folder under that groups name just to have another file on what I burned. Anyway...thank you so much for providing information and showing how it was done on different issues. You were marvelous, and you spoke my language. You helped me so much. I will re-read your tutorial again until I get it down in my brain. I just wanted something easy that does a good job. I always look at the negative comments as well and read the fine print. I cannot seek help from my husband as he can hardly get the cable TV to work or his cell phone. He occasionally messes up and gets the tv off cable and calls me "Ohhhh Deeeaarr!" and I have to go and check what he did because he surely does not know. My daughter who is a wiz on her cell phone but she is not into burning or ripping. I am so glad that I found you. I thank you so much.

Being the household IT person is a big responsibility, especially when someone boogers something up and wants it fixed immediately, haha. dBpoweramp is a very powerful program, it does much more than I demonstrated in this video. If you have multiple CD drives, you can rip more that one CD at a time. Good luck and have fun ripping your CDs. If you have any questions, let me know and I will try to help you out. Thanks for the review and the tips. I've just started using dBpoweramp and found the informtion useful. I suspect the reading speed is determined by how circular the CD is and whether the hole is exactly in the middle of it. I can hear my drive trying a fast speed and then backing off if the disc is slightly out of balance and starts to vibrate. I imagine that for higher reading speeds you need a nicely transparent outer layer to the disc and a reflective layer whose 1s and 0s were written cleanly at manufacture. Some discs will be better than others in all those respects.

    • @StevesStrayStuff
      @StevesStrayStuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're welcome Richard. I noticed my drive speed spooling up fast then backing down as well. This program is great and is a very user friendly. The fact that it compares your rips to a database is very nice feature. I have found that GD3 is the best for metadata, when the CD picture is wrong, GD3 usually has the correct album cover. I mentioned that before in another video, but I forgot to put it in this video. Happy ripping!

      @@StevesStrayStuff I have to choose my own artwork from file as I'm creating MP3 files for the car, and the player can only cope with images of 500x500 max. All of the album artwork I'm offered by dBpoweramp is larger than that. But it's not a problem (if you remember to change it before ripping). I use Affinity Photo to clean up and resize the images I find online, which is another product I can recommend.

    Very nice tutorial! Looks like you were all set for a merry Christmas of music listening and cocktails in 2020.
    dBPoweramp is very similar to "EZ CD Audio Converter" available with life time subscription that includes updates for one time purchase of $40. It gets metadata from GD3, WMP / Gracenote, MusicBrainz, Discogs, Freedb, and Amazon. Based on another users comment it seems that dbPowerAmp can also use different metadata sources.
    You mentioned that you took a picture of CD when the artwork isn't available. Did you mean to say that you scanned it, since that would give you a lot cleaner image?
    I've found that cleaning a CD when it doesn't read correctly will usually fix the issue.
    For quick modifying of tags after the fact, check out Tag&Rename, is intuitive and quick to update one or more tracks. This includes renaming one or more file names.
    A NAS is the only way to go with FLAC files being so huge. Plus with all the time involved in ripping, even if you used mp3, a NAS with RAID assures no data loss should a disc got bad. Even with this arrangement I got perhaps overly paranoid, considering I also have thousands of movie on it as well, that I bought another NAS that I keep off site at my brothers for everything to auto backup to every night. I put a shelf in at very top of laundry room so it's out of sight and free from tampering, etc. Very easy to login into remotely as well for maintenance.
    I retire in a year and plan to dive in to finish ripping my 1,000 or so CDs then.
    I see you use Room to play music. Have you tried Plex or PlexAmp? They auto transcode to mp3 if needed when playing remotely from a car, etc.

      Thank you for the comment Ken. I actually took a picture of the CD cover art, I never about thought about scanning it, which would have been super simple instead of me getting the camera directly overhead the CD so I didn't distort the image. Damn, I wish I thought about scanning, I will scan next time, thanks for the tip! I chose Christmas music for this video because the Christmas CDs were the most painful for me to rip. I do love the NAS approach. I have two NAS, one dedicated to my music server and one dedicated to my videos. I have only used Roon for my music because when I started this whole music server journey, I planned it around using Roon. I put a shelf in the very top of a bedroom closet for my NAS as well. That closet is directly behind the wall where my A/V gear is located so I was able to run an HDMI cable from my NAS to my preamp/processor. Enjoy your musical journey in retirement, I am right behind you, I am done working in 2023. Thanks for watching and cheers Ken! 🍻

    What a great video! Thanks so much! I am literally in the process of ripping my Christmas CD collection and I could not figure out how to change the file renaming convention, so I did a YT search and found your channel. I learned a few things I did not know, so thanks for sharing! One question, Do you happen to know how to change the naming convention for the file names. I would like to use this order, %track% - %title% - %artist% - %album%, but I cannot figure out how to do that. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Also, i believe the reason for the difference if read /write speed is because a CD player reads data slower from the outside of the disc and increases speed as it gets to the center. Thanks!

    • @StevesStrayStuff
      @StevesStrayStuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Mongo! Your name reminds me of Ted Nugent's Wango Tango, haha! I have never monkeyed with Naming, but when you open the CD Ripper, go to the bottom left, look for Naming and click on SET, there are other options to open up. I would play around with that to see if you can rearrange parameters and get it to do what you want it to do. The Christmas rips were very painful! If you attempt this, please let me know you make out and thanks for watching.

      @@StevesStrayStuff Hehehehehe :). Yeah, it is a bit out there.
      I figured it out thanks to you. Your video pointed me in the right direction.
      I am creating, literally working on this now, a library of all my Christmas CDs. I am using the "Multi Encoder" option to rip FLAC, AIFF, WAV, Apple Losseless, and MP3 all at the same time, to different directories, so I can reduce the house keeping. I figured that out while trying to figure out the naming conventions. Go figure! Actually, it is pretty easy. You just click "Naming" as you mentioned and use the builder they have. I am using the paid version of dBpoweramp 17.4. I created the naming convention I wanted, then copied it to the rest of the formats. Super simple, once you know what you are doing. I am literally in the process of backing up all my files right now. Sill have more work to do, but I just knocked out a be chunk of work. Once again, thanks for the inspiration!!! BTW: No kidding, ripping Christmas Music, especially content that is old is difficult. I suggest using MP3Tag and MusicBranz Picard. That will help with the meta tags and album art. Let me know if you would like more details.
      Thanks again, stay safe and be well!!

    • @WilfredForbert
      @WilfredForbert ปีที่แล้ว

      It's actually the opposite. The data reading speeds increases as you move to the outer part of the CD. When you have constant angular velocity (the rotations of the disk per minute), the linear velocity (the length of the data path) increases in a fixed period of time. Just think how large the circle is on the outside of a CD, vs the inside. One revolution of a CD can retrieve a lot more data from that big circle than from the small one. CDs are read from the center outwards. So you should notice that all your higher track numbers are copying faster than the lower numbe ones.

      PerfectMeta™ online meta-data from Discogs, GD3, SonataDB (Classical), MusicBrainz and freedb simultaneously to retrieve track names and high resolution Album Art [dBpoweramp Reference required.
      PerfectMeta™ uses 5 Internet meta data providers simultaneously, this allows errors such as spelling mistakes to detected and corrected. PerfectMeta offers the best metadata solution obtainable today. Sonata metadata is delivered through GD3, if present for a disc it replaces GD3.

    What I do with the ripped files now? In EAC or Foobar 2000 they ask you where you are going to park the files, what folder. Can't find any such question in dbpoweramp.

    • @StevesStrayStuff

      When you open up the dBpoweramp CD Ripper, look at the bottom left hand corner of your screen and you will see where you can enter the 'Path' to store your music. Path is location for your ripped music to be stored. Go to 02:30 and you will see that my Path for the ripped music is Y:/My Music Library. My music is stored on an external NAS which is my Y drive and I have a folder on that NAS that is labeled My Music Library.
      You enter the path to where you want your music stored and click SET. dBpoweramp will always use that Path unless you change it. I hope I explained this so you can understand me. Sometime it is hard to put into words what is in my head!

      A fool question: how do you end the process and make dbpoweramp move the ripped files to the right directory. Is there a way to create a cue sheet file to go with the music files or do I have to use other program to do so. Some people think that you need a cue sheet just when you have a large file containing all the music themes, but I think every CD needs a cue sheet. There seem to be two type of cue files, and not all playing programs see or act with the same one.

    • @StevesStrayStuff
      @StevesStrayStuff  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@carlose.martinez545 I am not familiar with a 'cue sheet' that you mention. I know people the rip classical music do complain about metadata and tracks not being separated. My genres are rock and blues, so the metadata is very good and all of the tracks are listed in the folder for the particular CD I rip, along with the album cover. I went to the dBpoweramp forum and dBpoweramp says "You do not need CUE sheets, they are for people who want the whole CD as one big track." I do not know if this your goal, but I have never heard of cue sheets until I read your post. Thank you for teaching me something.

If you click on This PC, the Music folder should appear in the drop-downs along with Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, Videos, etc. You can try searching for the 'Music' on your PC and it should take you there. Now I have ripped some music from a TH-cam video from a band which I have bought everyone of their cds they came out with. However, they preformed at a pub in France, and I wanted those songs which are on an array of their CDs that I had bought but it was live. It was an old performance back in 1968 or 69.
