Thank you SBA. Havent been much a fan of baseball for decades now. But watching old games still brings joyful innocence like a cool breeze on a hot day.
Having followed the Braves in Milwaukee for 12-13 years, even attending the Inaugural Opener in 1953, I treat this year's World Series with a chronic case of nostalgia overload. Every fall I became a Yankees fans, having hated the dreaded Dodgers as they usually deprived the Braves the National League pennant. But from 1956-59, the Braves enjoyed the best Won-Loss record. They enjoyed two NL pennants and one Series championship. In many ways, the Braves gave the Beer City the best memories.
The Dodgers have now beaten the Yankees THREE times at Yankee Stadium to clinch the World Series: 1955, their 1st one, as the BROOKLYN Dodgers, this one in 1981, and it has happened AGAIN in 2024. Dodgers clinching the World Series vs the Yankees in New York. 🙂
43 years ago tonight, LA def. NY @ Yankee Stadium, it's Monday October 28, 2024, game 3, LA vs NY, first time in 43 years the Yankees host the Dodgers in the World Series.
See those stirrups? Now...those...those are some Big League stirrups! That's how you are supposed to wear them! Go back to that, kids. So we send our heartiest congratulations to the 1981 World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers! Muy bien! Tres bien! Wow! What a season! (Except for the strike. No one liked that. Loved the Big League stirrups, to be sure! But strike? Nope. Not liked. By anyone!) What a game! Congrats to MVPs Ron Cey, Pedro Guerrero and Steve Yeager! Sorry for the confusion, Steve Garvey. But cool looking blue World Series rings for everyone! That will do it for us. Now, back to you. Stirrups!

That's exact what I was rooting on this past year, wanting to see them meet up in the World Series, Dodgers were upsetted by a team they dominated in the Padres, Yankees's second half of the season struggles, came back to get them in the ALCS, vs their pathblockers in the eventual champs, though glad Dusty got his ring, was rooting for him to get it, to go along with this ring here as a player, so happy for him.

In any event, the Dodgers won this game in a blowout anyway, so it was immaterial. It would only be a big deal today if it impacted the outcome.
There was apparently some behind-the-scenes drama at ABC because Al Michaels, who made his bones as a baseball announcer, was not happy about being relegated to only doing the weekend games for the second World Series in a row (they used the same arrangement in 1979) while Jackson, primarily a football announcer, called the prime-time weeknight games. As part of a negotiation with ABC prior to the 1983 Series, Michaels had it written into his contract that he would be the sole PBP announcer for all World Series games on the network.
