I would never put a deflated/deflating kite in water. Water would definitely find its way into the chamber, which is way worse than a little bit of sand. Just do your best to remove as much sand as possible while packing, and later clean it up more properly at home, etc. where you need to unpack it to dry anyway..

When the air goes out no water goes in. After you do need to close the valve in order for the water not to go in.

The trick my kiteboarding teacher taught me is to roll from the ends while keeping the leading edge at waist level not touching the ground to not pick up sand. Brush sand off the leading edge away from the kite. Roll the leading edge at waist level and let only the trailing edge of the canopy touch the sand. Shake sand off the canopy lifted completely off the ground at the end. Great with tip to tip fold in half before rolling.
Too much shore break where I kitesurf for that method. I often kite alone. I often walk a mile or more with my kite, don't need the extra weight of water. I can get it to dry faster by flying the kite between 10:30 and 1:30 to get more wind on both sides to dry for 10 to 15 minutes.

I also roll it like you describe when it's dry. But on a day like on the video that it was raining already, it still picks up a lot of sand. I agree that washing the kite after might not work in all situations. The critical factor is to bring attention to the problem of having sand when packing. Thanks for the feedback.

I get the most sand from dropping a kite in a shore break. If I pack with sand, I'll hang the kite on the clothes line on my balcony and shake the sand off in the morning. I have sand on my balcony.

Does anyone have advice on how you do this without the help of friends, in a wet or cold climate?

Recently, when i’ve had my first sędziom on my own kite some older guy (if i understand corectly in past he was a racer and has got a few golds in kur country) came up to me and showed me a way to pack it in big wind. Just deflate it while holding it shove the ground and then fold the 2 wingtips together and then quick roll. Saves a lot of time because wind keeps it a bit in air too

Thanks for the feedback. I saw this method also and i have tried it also. Sometimes had problems as the dump valve got blocked by the kite being folded.

Kook Proof Activity Center well i have an 2012 airush lithium and it has different valves for inflation and deflation. We will see how it serves next season. Now im waiting for some snow

If I go snowkiting I will make a small video about it. I had a snowkite school in tarnaby Sweden Back on 2011and 2012.

Have you ever tried folding the kite in half then rolling?
It's a hell of a lot quicker and easier

I have as I started with foils and that is how we packed it. I’ll do one video for different ways of packing kites.
