    Rolling kites cracks and erodes the coating applied yo the fabric and thread of materials. You should be aiming to have least amount of loose folds as possible and never roll.so factory fold in this video is the only way you should fold your kite and Instead of doing a hand width make it a bit less width of the bag the kite is going into. Also the 4 folds at end is damageing the fabric unnecesarily you should try aim for only 1 or 2 folds to make it fit into the height of the bag the kite is going into. I get paid to fold kites, gliders, parachutes and reserves.

      Thanks for this advice! What do you think of the video from slingshot called "how to pack your kite"? They do two lose folds and then roll losely? Is that worse than what you said in your comment (I have been doing it the way you said anyways but I saw their video and wasnt sure if I should listen to them)?

      Speaking as a paraglider pilot I've heard lots of theories about how to pack a parafoil (admittedly different from an LEI). One thing I've been told that may apply to both is not to 'fold' the kite/canopy the same way all the time or you'll end up with creases that may weaken the fabric and also affect the aerodynamics. If this is true 'rolling' may be better than folding. Like I said though, these are theories and some theories may be wrong.

      Anyone whose even half decent at paragliding concertinas they're wings. Just a wild guess but your not on a high b c d or ccc wing if you were it wouldn't be a question Sandy.

      @@kulfonbustardo1588 I have more than 500hrs of alpine flying experience, mostly on ENB/DHV2 wings and about 50hrs of tandem piloting.
      On modern canopies with stiffened leading edge you're right, it's important not to fold the cell dividers or damage the ribs. If you're trying to fit 10 tandem flights in a day then the glider doesn't get folded at all, it's just loosely bunched up in a quick-pack bag. If you need to hike with your glider or cram a load of wings in the boot of a car it's worth packing properly but if you're going to leave it packed up for a long time it's best not to fold it tightly, to allow any moisture to escape and to minimise creasing in the leading edge..

      @@kulfonbustardo1588 Sounds like you're a real expert then! I don't know many people who are alive and have done that more than once.

    Can you do this all again on the beach when its pumping a 20 knot wind. That all looked way too easy.

  • @thomash2538
    @thomash2538 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    You may also try to keep air in the center strut until you have folded both sides. Then release the air from the strut before final folding. Easier to fold straight.

  • @nunogirao8097
    @nunogirao8097 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I use a combination of your fast way and the factory way. I fold in in half and then I fold like factory. Rolling puts too much pressure on the fabric.

  • @johnnykhawand
    @johnnykhawand 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    After you open the valves, you can leave it for a few minutes before you fold it, the air will leak out and you won't have to push it out while folding.

    It’s not the drone or the dog poop or even the muddy day. It’s that you pumped your kite up three times by hand. Woof, I hate pumping it once a day.

    There might be an interesting video on how to depower your kite correctly to use it performing unhook and the same time how to adjust your kite lines after some usage (stretched/shrinked lines ) same length all 4 equal or steering must be longer to preform better while unhooked and so on 🤘 cheers for great vid 🤘

    nice one, if i'm not rushed at all or at home washing my kite I'll use the deflate side of my pump to vac stubborn air out of the bladder as it usually only takes a few pumps

    I would think that folding a kite would be more damaging to a canopy than rolling due to the increased possibility of creasing.
    After all, the fabric for making the kites comes on rolls. A kite folded and packed away for a long time will have pronounced fold lines unlike a kite that is rolled up. If rolling puts more stress on the sail and is damaging, as someone has previously stated, I would think that the folded areas would be affected and damaged way more and would create weak strips. Just my observation having worked with fabrics for many years.

    It's even faster method than first two and much safer for your kite...Just leave air in all struts and open front valve only and let air from the front edge out then roll both sides of kite to the center and keep your kite as one big "hotdog"...For that purpose was in kite bag extra light bag from the factory which was used as cover for kite,but for this method you have to have enough space in car ...😎🤙

    When my Mavic goes “home” like that, I alway have the moment when I wonder if it updated it’s home position from where I last used the drone. If you don’t know, you can intervene with the controller so it is not so dire.
    Great explanations! I have had trouble locating a lovely patch of green grass where dogs defecate, to pack my kite since I first watched this video.

  • @kshred3043

    I use a hybrid of methods 1 and 3. First fold the kite in half as per 1, then fold top and bottom halves together, as a pair) from the ends to the centre as per 3. Finish with 2 more folds from trailing edge to leading edge instead of 4. Fast, and no rolling (which is I understand has more chance of kinking or twisting the bladder than folding).

    Oi mate! Thanks a lot for the video! I had no idea about the first method! It will definitely be helpful when its super windy. Also, for a possible future video, would you consider talking about the differences between straps versus boots? I see that you are rocking the straps lately and was wondering the pros and cons of each. Thank you

      Rubens Távora the first technic to fold the kite is dangerous in strong winds. If the wind catches the middle section when you fold the kite in half it will just fly away from you
