- I participated at an event called Zero Emissions Run organized by Wil and Marty of @teslaclubsocal to promote all Electric Vehicles and raise awareness on transition to EVs. Among the participants (mostly Tesla) was a Lucid Air Dream Edition. I interviewed its owner, Ian, who owned many Tesla cars prior to the Lucid, to learn what he liked about Lucid and what he missed about Tesla.

I missed out on buying Tesla shares back when it was convenient, even though I knew it would become big, because I didn't have any capital to invest. I didn't make the same mistake with Lucid. We just have to hang in there and in ten years, it'll be where Tesla is today!
Excellent content! Lucid is not a Tesla Killer, it's a partner on the mission. I can see Lucid becoming the "Mercedes" of EVs. It's already beating the ice Merc on luxury.
If I was going to buy a luxury car, I would prefer the Air over the Mercedes EQS. Both are great cars, but the Air has much better range and I much prefer the aesthetics of the Air’s interior vs. the “too busy” look of the EQS. However, I am not their target customer since I will stick with the practically of my new Model Y vs. more luxurious cars.

@@georgepelton5645 And Europeans will rather prefer the luxury of Porsche and mercedes. The Chinese those from Hongqi and BMW and the US from Lucid. Funny! I am a Cybertruck guy, i "have to" drive a Model Y because nothing else comes close.

What a beautiful car. Great interview and to see the progression. Lucid has been supplying the packs for formula e and appears to be a strength. 520 range and 300 miles in 20 minutes.

Can confirm the amazing charging speed. Just made an 800 mile trip this weekend in my Air GT (the "only 800hp" Lucid) as quickly as I could have done it in an ICE car.

I saw a blond lady in a lucid getting on the freeway in Orange County. I almost crashed. It looked so sporty and amazing in real life.

I really like his humbleness and his honesty. I'm in line to get my first EV and it's a Model Y. But I have to say. This Lucid from what I can see is definitely next level EV luxury. But for me I want some practicality and don't need as much luxury. I used to drive a Lexus LS400 and loved it. It was a boat of a car and floated like one (in a good way) but I need some not as luxurious as this.
I'm very , very impressed with their range and charging capabilities. And it looks like an awesome road trip kind of car as well. It looks very spacious and seems to have decent room for luggage and other bags. I hope they can get their production numbers up. I worry about them being a niche vehicle that's out of the reach of the masses. But I do see them giving Mercedes, BMW and even Audi a run for their crown....

You're going to love the model Y. My only nicks against it as a Porsche owner are fit and finish. But really that's it. It's easy to look past it once you realize just how maintenance free an electric car is.
You will love the model Y, my wife has one in performance configuration. I just ordered a model 3 performance for myself two weeks ago. Now, we will have two Teslas in our household.

Great interview and he was humble and respectful of Tesla which I was glad as I have a model 3 coming….But always glad to see the future with other EVs and what may come…agree with others that the level of luxury is subjective as to worth and everyday use and affordability. Of course, if money is no object, then buy as many EVs as you wish to experience and report on the possibilities! Thx Joy!

I remember back in the 90's when i played Mech Warrior and you had the "External Camera Engaged" And I thought that was impossible, then I see this car has that feature.

I see lucid vehicles around the Bay Area from time to time and they are stunning! They also have a showroom at a local shopping mall so anyone can stop in to see it in person, sit in the car, etc

Great video Joy! I wonder would I choose the Lucid over the EQS? I should find a comparison test. Yes to me the Lucid is a step above the Model S in luxury, and maybe it will help Tesla to bring even more luxury features for the S and X in the future. I would mind owning one, but I would still own a Tesla. Exciting times as more and more electric vehicles hit the streets in the U.S., every one is one less ICE on the streets no matter which brand it is.

Great video. I'm glad he himself says that Elon didn't start this to get rich. Tesla was started to force the change to sustainable energy faster. Even in the Tesla mission statement they knew they would need more automakers to go EV to really pull off the full vision. Awesome interview with him and the Lucid.
I went to the NY Auto Show and was glad to see the theme was undeniably how everything will be going electric and we are currently in the transition phase. No Lucid, Rivian, or Tesla was there. But I knew why. About to visit the Rivian and Lucid showroom in 2 weeks.

@@jasonk125 - Product roadmap and execution are two different things. To come all this way without traditional advertising is a major accomplishment. Again. I do not think Tesla would even be alive today if it were under the helm of E & T. What makes you think otherwise?
Saying Musk nearly tanked the company ( in those early days ) and to see Musk is still there after so many naysayers. Plus the fact he invested his own money into the interest of the company. Then a saying grew on Wall Street which is "Don't Bet Against Elon Musk". I never heard "Don't Bet Against E & T".
Did E & T have anything to do with the start of the Supercharger Network? Who's primarily responsible for their patents? Would there have been enough cash to have the lawyers who succesfully fight laws Big Oil and dealerships had in place?
@@jasonk125 - Space X and Tesla have both almost tanked more than once. Many established people in the automotive world doubted Tesla while naming Musk. Where are they now?
Lockheed Martin, NASA, Boeing, and others all said it wasn't possible to have a rocket come back to Earth to be reusable. Musk has shown that he has a talent in knowing how to attract the best talent to knock out the main goals.
@@jasonk125 - Ok. I always knew this. But to me it doesn't matter, because an overwhelming amount of variables point to Tesla not being alive today with E & T at the helm.
Arguably without the bold move and the huge amount of $$ to create the Supercharger Network, and the lawyers needed to get that off the ground in numerous countries Tesla would have surely failed much earlier. That, along with a product owners were pretty happy with, and passionate content creators on the internet made it so traditional advertising wasn't needed. Only a company lead by someone who thinks outside of the box would make these moves and to this day other EV start ups have had a hard time duplicating this so far. Lucid, Rivian, Electrify America, EVGo all have to catch up
@@jasonk125 - Why does that matter? What matters is is where did the thinking come from to perform unorthodox maneuvers?
I was going to write more, but look at the bold move and $$ it took to make the Suoercharger Network in plenty of countries. In order to sell EV's, others are still playing catchup.

Great to see new EV’s following in the path that Tesla has blazed! A few observations: 1) I can’t find a safety rating on the Lucid Air. I don’t think the NHSTA has tested it yet. Given the price range, it’s something to consider as part of the purchase decision. 2) The Lucid is approximately 641 lbs heavier than the Model S. Maybe a trade off since Tesla has a better charging network while the Lucid has more range. Another consideration in the purchase decision relative to projected usage. 3) 0 to XXX times is only one measure of performance. If you watched this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix, overall handling and cornering/braking is equally if not more important than 0 to XXX times. It would be great to compare the two cars on a track that has tight left and right hand turns as well as straightaways. Given the Lucid Air’s higher weight, I wonder if it would be as agile as the S in the corners. It’s possible, if it has a better suspension. The Lucid may have better brakes, from what I’ve read, unless you opt for the ceramic brakes on the S. Would love to see this race. Likely can’t go wrong with either car. The journey continues.

Very late reply but you can see the Lucid Air GT Performance model race in the Goodwood festival of speed on the "Lucid Motors" TH-cam channel. No Tesla there, unfortunately.
There are also good videos on the "Hagerty" and "Throttle House" channels.
Every review I have seen ranks the Lucid's handling as notably better than the Model S. (The Lucid "Range" models equipped with narrow 19" Eco low rolling resistance tires are not made for performance driving)

I will bet you right now that LUCID is a temporary fling. These are people from Tesla that thought they were smarter than Elon and could take everything about Tesla that was an issues and fix it, but have found over time how costly and difficult it is to do so. This company is headed for long term disaster, because they are essentially a Telsa copy-cat, but too far behind the EV adoption curve to offer anything but high-end vehicles that most affluent people can't even afford. I suspect even this guy couldn't actually buy the car outright if he didn't step into a fluke catching Tesla stock ay $17. So now LUCID is all to happy to incentivize him for his anti-Tesla sentiment. And no question that Tesla could have ruled the EV "range" stats - but as a long-tem strategy chose not to, so Lucid jumped in. Yet at Lucid's prices, the company may at best find their niche as something like the original Mercedes car company (which BTW, essentially went out of business), but if you are are thinking Lucid will ever catch Tesla as a company, and make you millions on Lucid stock - be prepared for an incredible long shot. I almost feel sorry for Lucid - history will sadly leave that car company as the "Tucker" of this century. Great ideas but short on momentum.

I own Lucid Stock and even thou I’m down I believe in this company . It might take a few years to see my investment pan out . I’ll never be able to afford one but knowing this brand is being built in the USA is another reason I bought Lucid stock . Beautiful car , I have seen a couple in person .

I love the Lucid. The electric vehicles and futuristic smart technology stuff are part of new futuristic times like in the sci fi movies. I'm a big fan of those stuff. Will their be Lucid police cars? Will Robocop will like to drive one?

Keep sedans alive. This is a very nice and true luxury EV sedan. I don't know if I love every feature but it's a good mix of trad with moving forward. EV Sedans now are the two from Tesla, 3 and S, and then the Mercedes EQS. Electric conversion ones (not on dedicated EV platform) are Polestar 2, BMW i4 and i7 and some others. Great Chinese EV sedans ones like NIO ET5 and ET7 and Xpeng P5 and P7 and BYD Han aren't available in the USA now. Looking forward to Hyundai Ioniq 6 (this year) and Polestar 5 (probably 2025).
I just like the form factor of sedans or fastback sedans.

Great video Joy you always do a good job. Yeah this car is super cool and I'd much rather have it than a Tesla Model 3 for sure, or even an S. It's main competition is going to be the Mercedes EQS which blows away the Tesla Model S as an electric luxury car. Main problem with Lucid is lack of dealerships/studios, and repair places.
Well, I just went to a Mercedes dealership and saw the EQS, and at $169,000, you should get a better interior. That’s literally $40k more of interior over the plaid and about $65k over the long range ,That’s like saying I’d rather have waygu beef over hamburger.
I would buy a Lucid in a second but I still prefer the Tesla Supercharging network better
Tesla is 10 years ahead in software and the ecosystem. But still we need competitors so everyone improves.

When I test drove the Lucid Air, it was amazing. Makes Tesla Model S and X look like toddlers put it together with some glue and safety pins. (of course I'm being dramatic here) Currently driving Rivian R1T and for the same price of the R1T I will need to give up 3 motors, off-road capability and sitting high that provides insane clarity to buy the cheapest Lucid Air Pure. Oh not to mention unbeatable utility. If Lucid could sell dual motor version for 75K I would buy it. Definitely it's great to see more evs on the road. Thanks for the great video.

Different kind of beasts...to many evs coming out like the flat screen tv....early adopters look good but will full duped by the releases from our known car makers..no more special feeling there everywhere and will be an Uber to u soon....at an affordable costs
@@vickykennel7414 some people pay a lot of money to ride a horse. If you compare Lucid Grand Touring to Rivian R1S financially it makes way more sense to get the R1S suv. Yes im getting about 320 miles on the road. Did not need to tow anything yet. Lucid however not the best at towing anything if it did the range would be absolutely destroyed. I really like Lucid design and the spacious cabin if they added HUD it would be ideal EV sedan.

I don't think this car is available in Australia, or in right hand drive. Lucid only seem to make sedans at this stage. My next car will be the Mercedes EQS SUV. I love luxury, air suspension, and excellent cargo space. Great video.

I drove Tesla S model, and I like it,...but I think that this Lucid Air is more practical and in the same time more luxurious car. I would rather go for Lucid, than Tesla.

I would love to see them create a lighter performance model of the lucid … which shed some poundage off the car … overall it’s definitely a different approach however the price for these are still very steep in my opinion

good interview and good questions, but one thing you forgot, what is the price? I am a tesla car owner and for now, will be loyal to tesla since there are different price range. Lucid came a little late into the market, but I still wish them them the best. the person who you interview, did you ask if he has stock in Lucid? any way, good luck to all EV car makers, we need to make a change in this alternative energy situation.

I'm still team Tesla, but I love that companies like Lucid are making a compelling product now. The competition will only help improve Tesla. We're already seeing this with the Cybertruck. Rivian comes out with a quad motor, so Tesla ditches plans for a tri-motor and replaces it with a quad motor. The Hummer EV has the ability to turn the rear wheels to make the vehicle "crab walk", and the Cybertruck is also going to have this feature now. It's only a matter of time before Tesla will have a 500-mile range like the Lucid, and only a matter of time before Lucid has great software like Tesla. So bring on the competition! Everyone wins :)
Exactly! We consumers win with more EV competition.
Quad Motor is to take a jab at GM that keeps saying they electrified America. With the tri motor alone from the plaid the Cyber truck can outperform the Rivian… but to our tow and pull the extremely heavy hummer uphill , they will need the quad.
Tesla's are played out! Too many people have them now, I sold mine... May pick up a Lucid
@@TheLegendaryLinx Lucids are very nice and have incredible range. I'm sure you'll be very happy with it. They're still slower than a Plaid, but speed isn't everyone's priority. Still faster than 95% of cars on the road, so still very worthy of their price tag.
Lucid tream are ones made Tesla car work before they switch to Lucid..
