I feel you, Sarah. They are steeped in OMD vibes, which was my own obsession for years. But NoL definitely have their own great character. I just bought tickets for their final date in Toronto so I can finally welcome them in person as well as I already have my heart.
I was lucky enough to see them last year and just booked for Manchester again this year. You won't be disappointed as they were absolutely superb live.
One of my top songs of 2023, I am hearing hints of Alphaville, Ultravox, Thomas Dolby, New Order, and other synth-pop bands I loved from the 1980's. Another track off the album has a clear Depeche Mode riff, just a wealth of nods to the past synth-pop icons.
I was just thinking earlier today.. I hear some Thomas Dolby in there.....I love all of these bands that take that late 70s 80s inspiration and expand it into brand new killer shit.
Reminds me so much of my childhood. Shades of Depeche Mode, Spandau Ballet and The Human League. I literally cannot stop listening to it! It's becoming my sole obsession! Thank you, Sirius XMU for introducing me to them.
New wave has been given a rebirth through Nation Of Language. Innovative, fresh and dance filled synths. They are mastering the craft with each new release. I wish they’d open for Depeche Mode.
Wonderful video ! I’m 54 and Nation of Language takes me to a happy place sometime around 1983 /87 where I used to hide from the outside world and listen to the Human League , New Order OMD Pet Shop Boys and all those sweet sounds of teen years
As a teenager in the 80s my sister sent this to me to reminisce. This is one of the better new songs that sounds like my high school years. OMD Human League and a few others all mixed together awesome five stars
Their songs just keep getting better. The religious imagery in the video intrigues me. I felt a wave of sadness as they walked down the railroad tracks and the disciple turned to the camera. Ian's voice is so expressive...
This song is on repeat ad infinitum. The tones, melodies, synth, bass, lyrics, vocals, THOSE MOVES! I can’t get enough. Nation of Language are one of the best bands to hit my ears. If you are ever in Belfast, consider me there. Ok that’s my gush over
Gush away friend - like many commenters I'm seeing I grew of age in the early 80s with music, and this hits just right, for all the reason you mentioned.
Thank you for the New Wave Revival and taking me back to my childhood and teenage years.. Sounds like Visage, Ultravox, Blancmange, Anything Box, Book of Love, I can go on.
I first heard to this back in March just before my dog of 17 years passed away. I listen to the lyrics in the context of providing my dog palliative care then coming to the decision to let him go, then dealing with the grief in the aftermath. The imagery at the end of the video is particularly fitting when the masked figure turns the record player off, disappears, and the group is left sitting in silence.
Coming out of a 2 year obsession and finally feel free. I saw them live not long ago and this song really spoke to me. I listen to this song on repeat. I think it's replaced my old obsession.😅
I am 54 and lived the dream in Hawaii my for 36 years. I used to run around with a very small group of "alternative" kids. We weren't much liked s we were different. This band is takes me back. Every song is very well written lyrically, musically and to me, AMAZING. I so hope they gain more traction and get what they deserve! Can't wait to ss them live.
John Hughes would have most likely have used this song in one of his movies if he were still alive....he would have loved these guys....just a hunch!🤩🤘
This video demonstrates that you can throw all the fancy digital algorithms at a music video you like, you can beat the original 80's-esque videography techniques - simple and effective
I dunno if there’s such thing as a perfect song, but if there is this is it, if not a close contender. The song standalone is amazing, brilliantly played and produced and dance-inducing. The song paired with the video is the greatest pairing. Every time I’m just left with the feeling I have to A) play it again B) dance to it C) get other people to dance to it with D) figure out how to dance like Ian. Big love ❤
Greetings from South Africa. I just discovered Nation of Language yesterday and wow definitely one of the best bands to listen to at the moment. You make me wish for the awesome 80's back. We all want the 80's back.
I already commented something similar to this on the video for The Grey Commute, but the visuals in this music video honestly feel like something straight out of the '80s, while also being somewhat modern-looking, which is kinda a great metaphor for their music.
The moment I heard the first few seconds of this song I was instantly taken back to my summer weekend life in the 1980’s on Long Island. Clubbing at REDS, dancing, staying out until 4AM, coming home and laying in the lounge chair outside sunning myself while listening to WLIR or my Walkman. Sleeping all morning, then starting my afternoon and doing it all over again. I loved it!
I can't wait for more people to experience the imagery, lyrics, and complete songs of NOL. It's such a beautiful thing. Music should have this effect ❤❤
They sound so much futuristic than the other bands around. They are the future! They get better and better and it's very exciting. If there are any other bands around with this wonderful kind of synth sound I'd really love to know, thanks!
TH-cam member for many years; never been moved to comment until now. This song transcends nostalgia. I’m 46 years old, but I feel like this has been playing in my head for 46 years.
Can’t wait to see them at Pitchfork and October in Madison. Never miss these guys!! Great music and great people. First time I saw them live, I played pool with them for an hour before I realized who they were. Lol
Great new tune! Plays nicely off their last single “From the Hill”, equally nice 16mm look to the video. Top notch visuals as usual from NOL. Having all the new tour dates announced today was icing on the cake.
Absolutely obsessed.. I love everything you've done. Of course the OMD references but you make everything sound original. Love you guys and hope to see you live in 2024!
I hope the band doesn't mind that so much of their fanbase on TH-cam were teenagers and young adults when the first wave of synthpop bands arrived in the early 80s.
The new wave's not dead
At 61 these guys are my happy ticket back to my early 20’s. Best band in decades😊 Looking forward to the London gig
I am 58 and I agree 😁
The Camden one in June? See you there!
I feel you, Sarah. They are steeped in OMD vibes, which was my own obsession for years. But NoL definitely have their own great character.

@@phillipmanning4995 Yeah Ian's voice holds up really well!!
I was young in the 80s and I tell you this is more 80s than the 80s were....

Sounds like OMD to me
All of that and some Joy Division even. And the video is great too - as you say - becoming my 'sole obsession' song right now...
@@Handlemcdaniel I hear it too...and to me a touch of Joy Division. Great great song...we so need this...
If you like Nation Of Language, I cannot recommend DRAB MAJESTY enough! Check them out here: OUTSTANDING!!! th-cam.com/video/Yqn9fXzYWoo/w-d-xo.html
@@VonHenry70Yeah I can hear some of both the Joy Division mainly comes through the echo effect used in the vocals.
Am I the only one who actually really felt YOUNGER (at least temporarily) while listening to this?
❤❤❤
Not at all. I'm 45 and this takes me back to the major synth bands of the 80's.
New wave has been given a rebirth through Nation Of Language. Innovative, fresh and dance filled synths. They are mastering the craft with each new release. I wish they’d open for Depeche Mode.
And New Order!
And yet they have a sensibility all their own.
I'd take out a second mortgage on the house to see THAT show.
check out spy convention on their bandcamp page
At 53 I'm on clouds feeling 18 again listening to this song, Thank you for posting this.... I want to go back so bad ..
Wonderful video ! I’m 54 and Nation of Language takes me to a happy place sometime around 1983 /87 where I used to hide from the outside world and listen to the Human League , New Order OMD Pet Shop Boys and all those sweet sounds of teen years
So true. Same here :)
Best band in the last 40 years!
u goddame rite
The hook on this song is amazing. And the sound is perfect, it’s like a cross between New Order and Tears for Fears.
As a teenager in the 80s my sister sent this to me to reminisce. This is one of the better new songs that sounds like my high school years. OMD Human League and a few others all mixed together awesome five stars
I came of age in the early 80s and this takes me right back there. Each song is a time machine. I so want to see them live!!
That first chorus after the spoken word section just blows me away.
Their songs just keep getting better. The religious imagery in the video intrigues me. I felt a wave of sadness as they walked down the railroad tracks and the disciple turned to the camera. Ian's voice is so expressive...

This song competes with the best that the 80s gave us. AMAZING!!! Easily my favorite song this year

This band is sadly underrated. Such a great song. Vid reminds me of late 80s MTV music vids .. nostalgic ✨
66 years young got to see them twice last year Glasgow Sheffield both great gigs
John Hughes would have most likely have used this song in one of his movies if he were still alive....he would have loved these guys....just a hunch!🤩🤘
My college roommate in 1982 told me about this. Wonderful
In about 2 months I'll be seeing Nation for my birthday with one of my best friends.
This video demonstrates that you can throw all the fancy digital algorithms at a music video you like, you can beat the original 80's-esque videography techniques - simple and effective
I'm 56 years old and this song makes me feel 19 all over again. I can't get enough of it is on replay❤❤❤❤
56 year old Gen-Xer here. This is by far the best song on your album. But you already know it, don't you?
I know they’re from Brooklyn but I’m getting Scottish vibes here! Lol
Arrrechisimoooo! Fan desde el primer día, saludos desde Venezuela 🇻🇪

This band takes me back to my adolescence. Happy to have lived in the 80s!! TKS for great song!!
The best new band for me
The vocal, the synth and that bass.... Devine
This is gorgeous! NOL keeps surprising me with such lush vocals mixed with etheric beats. And the video is stunning! Can't wait for the full album!
Greetings from South Africa. I just discovered Nation of Language yesterday and wow definitely one of the best bands to listen to at the moment. You make me wish for the awesome 80's back. We all want the 80's back.
This is simply masterful. Song, video…it’s all great. Keep it up, NoL.
Walk me home and walk away.....
Thank you for continuing to save my life.
I already commented something similar to this on the video for The Grey Commute, but the visuals in this music video honestly feel like something straight out of the '80s, while also being somewhat modern-looking, which is kinda a great metaphor for their music.
Phenomenal. I find myself getting lost in their videos in a way that few other musicians replicate.
This song is an absolute masterpiece.

Same! The Loop at Malibu, 007, Spize- this sound brings it all back.
New Wave lives, and this time, it's local (NYC). I get serious Sheffield vibes from this one.
Song gives me chills every time I hear it!
I'm a child of the 80s so quite fussy. This is really good!
This is amazing. My favorite band just took a leap.
SZN 3, let’s gooo!!!
My favorite city old souls. Thanks for being the soundtrack of my life.
I LOVE YOU - see you guys at the RECORD BAR in K.C. 10/20/23 = YAY ! ! ! !
This band makes me excited about music.
Stunning music video. They've done it again, folks.
Truly awesome loooong list. Easy to tell you're an avid listener. And like me, getting older but still always looking for new good stuff❤.
Their music is like a bag of the best pic n mix sweets. So many influences, but they've managed to turn it into something special of their own.
I wish they would come to New Orleans for a show. Nobody seems to come to New Orleans anymore.
I can't wait for more people to experience the imagery, lyrics, and complete songs of NOL. It's such a beautiful thing. Music should have this effect ❤❤
The album is going to be amazing if going by this tune 😃
Almost the same notes of the Blue Monday but it's refreshing!
They sound so much futuristic than the other bands around. They are the future! They get better and better and it's very exciting. If there are any other bands around with this wonderful kind of synth sound I'd really love to know, thanks!
80s sounds but futuristic... interesting!
Retroactive melancholy.
@@nickgermanic8505 Yazoo were the future once. This could be that same future.
My fave NoL video yet.❤ Reminds me of Stanley Kubrick.
Que pedazo de arte.. han vuelto los 80s
fantastic - we missed those sweet sweet dance moves
Those dance moves were missed! More please! The whole band dancing in those segments in the rooms then in the tunnel made the video for me
TH-cam member for many years; never been moved to comment until now.
This song transcends nostalgia. I’m 46 years old, but I feel like this has been playing in my head for 46 years.
We've got a winner here!! Truly inspired and inspiring.
Nice OUTRO. Great looping effect
Philip Oakey you have a serious competitor! And I think he´s winning! Anyway they are both great!
About as good as I have heard in the last 40yrs. This is as good as music gets.
Love your sound, the way you sing. Pure. True. Greetings from Spain.
One of my favorite bands - amazing song
Can’t wait to see them at Pitchfork and October in Madison. Never miss these guys!! Great music and great people. First time I saw them live, I played pool with them for an hour before I realized who they were. Lol
You guys just get better and better...😍
Tremenda canción! Espero poder verlos en Buenos Aires en noviembre! 🙏
We can't wait to do Ian's dance moves when we see you live!
Fantastic as always! See y’all in Toronto in December.
Great new tune! Plays nicely off their last single “From the Hill”, equally nice 16mm look to the video. Top notch visuals as usual from NOL. Having all the new tour dates announced today was icing on the cake.
Thank you for composing another great song for us ❤️
Seeing them live at the Fonda Theater-Los Angeles May 17...can't wait!
I am addicted to them! Glad to see them in Frankfurt!
somebody watched violet and her week of wonders. love it
What an achievement! Wow!
You guys are dangerously close to be called genius.
You’re simply too good ❤
KOOL tune!
Love this! reminds me of Baltimore by Spy Convention
42 here. This is such a dynamic song!
Can't get enough of this amazing band!
Merci à tous ! Votre musique est formidable ! Bravo !
As always, the BOMB !
Marvelous!
Brilliant song and video. I love to see Fort Tryon Park making a cameo here! A still somewhat under-the-radar green space gem in NYC!
