I’ve split Giovanni’s magnificent four hour video into three parts. Part one sets up his story. It starts slow, but parts two and three are some of the most riveting mob/law enforcement stories I’ve ever heard. Part two posts on Wednesday and part three posts on Friday. This is definitely one of the best talks I’ve posted. Enjoy!
I LOVE these mob interviews. I never thought I'd be interested in that, but these are really good interviews!
Thankyou
Thank you!!
Thanks, dude!
Thank you Mark. Your morning uploads keep me going. Especially my fav mob stories!
I can't believe this guy talked through for 1 and a half hour but it's like reading a good book you don't want it to end. The greatest story I've heard on this channel so far.
It was longer than that it was like 4 hours but the videos were split up
I highly recommend checking out his book "Giovanni's Ring"...I'm currently halfway through it.
@@m_starseed where can I find that?
@@mirror0flife it's available on audible.
Wonderful interview, wonderful man. I am the wife of a 30 year homicide detective. Great respect for these men.
A lot of respect for their families and supporters. ❤
Interesting how most people say they "grew up with nothing", then go into hours telling you they had family, character, friends, roof over their head, clothes, private school, strict but loving parents, etc.
how dare you? They started with nothing- They built , saved- scraped to survive and go to "private schools". Did your people come from another country? Have you ever needed a bath but didnt have running water? Ever lived in low income housing? you have no idea what someone goes through . Shame on you
😂 calm down Santi he's got a point. A very good point actually
Not to mention a school counselor who who actually gave a shit.
Actually I came from all of the above... You don't know me... My point is that they had a lot, maybe not material things, but they had each other and were not alone and didn't compromise. BUT this guy is the kid that reaped all those benefits from his hard working parents... How dare I?? How dare he say they had nothing when they worked so hard to give him everything they had.
Strict parents? His father was abusive.
This is one of your best ever sir. Bravo. Can't wait for the rest of it. This channel is so much better than anything on actual TV these days.
I could listen to this man's life stories for hours. Fascinating.
Slow hand clap
You're gonna. 😊
I really enjoyed how Giovanni spoke in this first video and Mark if your telling us his 2nd and 3rd videos are even better I cannot wait to watch those when you post them. He speaks really well and you can tell in how he talks that he has a kindness to him, although he might have been rough and tough in his actions growing up lol his choice of words, along with his voice or how he chooses to speak reflects a softer more gentler side to him. Another gem Mark great job ❤❤
i can already tell this is going to be special. and i appreciate the compassion he shows for his father by explaining the trauma he must have been dealing with, and not just painting him as a one-dimensional abuser. that kind of understanding and forgiveness must be difficult, yet is very admirable and human.
This guy looks like an actor. The mob look right out of central casting. Excellent interview. Can’t wait for parts 2 & 3!
I love starting my day watching SWU interviews!! Thank you for your awesome work Mark!!! This is great!!!!
Me too! Listen as I'm getting ready for work
Same! With coffee of course.
My new wake up time is 3:00 am 😂
I love when you interview people from my neck of the woods. I was born/raised in Jersey City NJ, which is right next to Bayonne. I don't live there anymore but I miss it, salt of the earth people back in those days.
I'll tell you what our necks are doing in your woods
Jersey City here too! Greenville section; white.

J. C. life long resident here, immigrated from another country. Tough as nails neighborhoods growing up, no transgender dumbshit, no prying on the weak and old, no stupid gun / knife standards. Just your 2 fists, back, body, high family morals, working like an animal, helping and supporting anyone you can. God wants it that way. You earn a lot of self respect that way, and your spirit resonates with God's Work to be done on earth. A little fun and alcohol breaks it all up and makes things more fun and better. Greenville man, you rock. Here also, fighting like cats and dogs, and respecting all life as you get older.
I can imagine Mark sitting back, listening and not saying word thinking I’ve struck gold with this one!
When Mark is silent during an interview…you know it’s a one of the really good ones!
Looking foreward to many more interviews with this gentleman . Thank you !
Back before Bruce Willis got sick he would be perfect to play this guy in a movie. I'm just 26 minutes in and I'm already enjoying this guy. Thanks Mark for all that you do and I've got a good life story if you ever want to hear it
@drooshmaroosh8261 she did not make fun of Bruce Willis. She complimented Bruce's acting ability.

@MrBushman123 maybe I missed it but can you point out were she said vegetative state? She said before he got sick. My mother had dementia so I have educated myself. Why be so sensitive?
@@karenaguilar8116 thank you and you're exactly right I was not making fun of Bruce Willis, I just know that he would have been great playing this man
Love my NJ. Thank you, Giovanni for serving our state and country. Love hearing your stories.
Thank you Mark for all these intriguing videos. Especially all across America. Nice to see the diversity and variety across the country especially in my state new jersey
I'm captivated by his voice, absolutely loving listening to this gentleman. Can't wait to listen to the rest of the interview.
❤ Will have my son listen to him one day ❤️
After seeing all the comments about “I can’t wait for part I & II!!”, I’m clicking off the video and waiting for all 3 parts to be up so I can binge and turn this handsome, articulate man’s story into a solid movie 🍿🍷
There's no part of me that doubts this man could talk for 4 straight hours lol. Great stuff. Looking forward to parts 2 and 3 😊
I can’t wait for the other parts. He is a captivating storyteller.
It's the way he holds his hands 😊 steady, solid, stable. Beautiful energy 😊
Interesting that you noticed his hands he held him in a Mudra fashion
Lol this is a traned position
Unataka kumkula?
Not me expecting him to be a dermatologist 😅
I seriously clicked and wondered why a dermatologist was getting an hour and a half😂😂😂😂😂
I thought he made suits but didn’t understand measurements
I almost didn’t watch because of the title
Well there's thousands of different jobs so I am pretty sure not many people would have guessed that. Faulking weirdo 😂
😂
This is going to be superb. If they had a Nobel Prize for storytelling this guy would get one. This is going to be captivating I just know it.
i drink these east coast tough guy vids like water. love the cop side probably more than the wise guy side
Really enjoyed hearing Giovanni's story and can't wait for next episode. Thanks Mark.
This is by far my favorite video you have done. Thank you Mark and thank you Giovanni for telling your amazing life story.
My father was from New Jersey so much of what this officer is saying is true cause I heard it from my dad. You know my whole life telling me about how it was back in the day.
One of the best guests on swu. There should be a series with Giovani telling stories
These interviews and the ones about the mafia are best ones you do Mark
I thought I clicked on a Mobster, I clicked on the police 🤔
Easy mistake to make

Absolutely incredible interview. This man is a fantastic storyteller, edge of my seat for the last half of this. I cannot wait for the next part (and part 3).
Holy fuck, these episodes with guests that can carry their stories along for 1h+.
They all have something special, the "spark" or whatever you choose to call it. Inspirational, entertaining and wholesome
Yes. I notice the longer the interview the better the story. I seek them out. Saw this is over 1.5 hours I clicked on it for sure!
I also grew up with nothing, my dad worked at Ford motor company in the 60's and 70's and we got by. My dad did not see the big money the Ford workers seen like in 80's and 90's did cuz he retired in 1981. My whole family was in the service except me due to a heart condition. So I was raised in a hard life back then, you did not talk back to my military father. also my father was a alcoholic and that was HELL to live with.
Excellent interview Mark. I can't wait to see the other 2 parts.
The DeCavalcante family was partly what David Chase modeled the Sopranos on. Pretty cool to hear this interview, good stuff.
If was involved with the mafia or any illegal activity, the last thing I would do is come on Soft White Underbelly… and talk about it.
Agree!
He’s a published author. It’s probably how he hooked up with Mark.
Giovanni Rocco is a pseudonym, but you’re 100% right - with these tell all books I often wonder how they keep themselves safe from becoming victims of vengeance for such a huge betrayal of trust.
Even with living in an “undisclosed place” and using a fake name, his photo is still plastered all over the place. And I’m sure that SWU is not the only interview he’s done.
Everything about this guy - where he grew up, his family history, the way he speaks and gestures, his clothing style.....he's practically a brother.
Dio vi benedica, Giovanni Rocco. 🙂
I feel like I had the worst high school guidance counselor ever 😂
Sophomore year I was feeling extremely lost, so I took initiative and visited my counselor for the first time ever.
I think I bothered her at the start of her lunch break. She rudely asked what I wanted to do when I grow up. I politely said, "I don't know, that's why I'm visiting you today."
She said, "Come back when you know what you want to do."
I left her office confused and humiliated.
Ditto 💯 %.
That is really weird it was close to 50 years ago, but I think that I had the same experience.
I have listened to many of your mafia interviews, and Giovanni sounds and speaks like a real Mafia character. Had to keep reminding myself that he was with the good guys.
Apparently he didn't learn to stand outside of the liquor store and ask someone one to buy the liquor 😂
Great interview, can’t wait for the second part.
Sometimes a thin line between law enforcement and those in organized crime.
Wow Mark. Looking forward to the rest!
Finally, highlighting an Italian American success story instead of a former mobster. You're on the right track, Mark..about time.
What about all the great pizza places. OHHHHH! AYE!!!!!!! OHHHHHHH!!
Yeah Italian Americans always complain about people not seeing they accomplishments. Which is bs Italians be in the movie business pizza places and all kinda other things. We understand that Italians are not only mobster. Can we have something different for ones.
Abababbebboo
Why can’t he interview all different types of people? He has his lifetime to interview all different types
@@izzydeadyet7336no no, he has to interview who this one random person wants..
Exposure to both worlds provides a priceless education and often resourceful survival skill sets.
Indeed❤
Wow this guy resonated with me…I did everything that was the opposite of what my father wanted me to be….because of his control and aggression towards my mother and myself. I love my father and am so loyal but he tested that to the max. I legit had the thought process…what will hurt him the most? Sounds so messed up but my thought process was, if he can feel the hurt I feel maybe he will change. Obviously that isn’t how it works…and once a person realizes this, that is when a person grows and succeeds in life.
Growing up, I endured abuse from my father, and the women in the family didn’t intervene to help. I vividly remember one time when he was supposedly "disciplining" me, but it turned into something much worse. He hit me in the face, grabbed my cheeks with one hand, and lifted me off the ground. My grandmother, watching, only said, "Not in the face!" That moment is etched in my memory forever.
Sometimes we underestimate the massive effect trauma can have on us..idk why society views diagnoses such as ADHD as “better” than being forthright about witnessing domestic violence, being emotionally abused, etc.
It’s easier to slap a label on it and condense all that into something that can be medicated, capitalize on trauma
Much like addiction there is no pill for trauma. Pharmaceutical companies assist in the stigma of mental health and addictions. They are not driving healing, they are pushing a bandaid in the form of a pill.
Fascinating! I first heard his story on The Mob Museum channel and thoroughly enjoyed it! Such a charismatic man! Waiting for parts 2 and 3🔥
MY DAD GAVE FREE HAIRCUTS IN THE POOR NEIGHBORHOOD, WHERE HIS SHOP WAS. A LOT OF PEOPLE HAD A LOT OF KIDS. I SAW HIM TAKE OFF HIS SHOES AND GIVE THEM AWAY. HE ALWAYS HAD MITTENS AND HE WOULD PASS THEM OUT TO THE LITTLE KIDS ON THEIR WAY TO SCHOOL.
God bless your sweet dad!

Another amazing job Mark! Keep grinding!
This guy looks like he know's someone who know's somebody.
This is such an enjoyable listen, Man can this man talk! I feel like he could make an impact on kids lives if he spoke to young men in school.
My name is Giovanni Giovanni Rocco. Everybody calls me Rocco
🤔
Incredible. Meaningful for fathers of sons.
Agreed. Many important Integral aspects of live explained.
In my opinion, This is the best interview you have done
" It's not the grades u make, it's the hands u shake " . It's about relationships that matter in life. Grades are dumb. Basing somebody's intelligence by what type of a score someone gets on a test is ludicrous !
We have a similar saying here in Dublin. “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know”
Same in Russia..and in the rest of the world as far back as human history goes.
❤❤❤❤ The tough love of his Dad , saying kill your self, walk in front of a tram………. I’m guessing his dad deep down perhaps knew that his son wouldn’t, I can’t imagine the guilt had he decided to do that. I so LOVE and Admire how he’s honest about his upbringing but clearly holds no grudges or judgements on his Dad, clearly understanding he was most likely came from a similar upbringing. And no parent is perfect ever .Great storyteller, thank You 🫶🏼💓Fifi
Gio is definitely a very captivating speaker.
When I was a kid I didn't like cops. I'm from the same background as Giovanni. When his story unfolded I was thinking of Rebecca and that poor boy with the beard who grew up in a drug addled home in Ohio and he even mentioned the honor roll students from high school who became junkies. I'm not a religious person but this guy is a blond haired Italian avenging angel. God bless him.
Great interview so far

Another great one! Love those kind of storytellers, they manage to paint images so vividly, like watching a movie.
I couldn't get a word in edgewise when Giovanni was talking, It was frustrating but I dealt with it.

Good & bad
Great story teller, could listen all day. I have no doubt the job is intense. You speak so calmly about it but, in the moment of a deal the adrenaline rush must be insane.
Another autographed pictured table book coming up . 😊
This is a pure story of networking. Male networking. I'm female. If I had been a guy, I probably would have had this kind of help. This does not, DOES NOT, happen for women/girls in our society.
I just had this realization
Italians look out for the men more than the women. It's a very patriarchal culture. We were expected to stay home, have babies, raise the children, cook, clean, laundry, go to church while the men worked, and then hung out at the local Italian clubs, gambling and drinking.
That’s most cultures. Amish, Mennonite, all of the Middle East
Surround yourself with better women? 🤷♀️
You’re forgetting that ambition is the key ingredient needed to make networking worthwhile. Very few people are forcefully pushed into success. Also, women often have a crabs-in-a-bucket mentality amongst each other. To say nothing of the small percentage of women with terrible personalities that actively engage in reputation destruction of the other women around them.
Cant wait for other parts, really enjoyed this what a story teller. 🙏😎👊✌🇬🇧
