Confidence. So true. I don't know any female who doesn't want a guy with confidence. At the same time, confidence levels DO MATTER. Some girls may not like a guy with a crazy high ego, while others may find it attractive. Some girls may find a guy freezing up to be a total turn off, while other girls might like shy guys. So long as your ego isn't so high that it overshadows the girl you're with or your self esteem is so low that you are a burden to a girl to take care of, as long as you stay yourself and have SOME confidence, then you can attract a female out there. For example, I feel guys who have too much confidence seem to brag a lot and I can't tell if they genuinely care about me. Ones with higher egos tend to put me off, as I see them as rude or impolite. However, I like shy guys. Their intentions about me may still not always be clear, but what is clear is that they have an interest in me at least a little, so I find them more approachable and (for me) relatable because sometimes I get nervous too. For other girls, it could be that they prefer the one with the higher ego because they seem strong, protective, and not needing to be managed or "taken care of" by the girl. It really does just depend on the female, but regardless whether you're shy, confident, or proud, know you have a shot with the right girl for you, just don't have a very low self esteem or a narcissistic personality.

A little stress is fine, but just enough for me to take action on my interests and pursue them. In that case, if I was shy around guys, then that's not being myself because I'm uncomfortable. In my opinion, changing yourself to be more confident is just changing an attitude to a situation, but not your personality and who you are. In other words, I don't think you should change yourself (so, be who you are most comfortable and happy being), but perhaps change your attitude for confidence (being confident is a combination of choice as well as learning how; I used to have very low self-esteem, but I change the way I viewed my life and became happy with the way I am, regardless of what others thought. Only then, did my confidence build). So, for me, by how I perceive the meaning of "myself," I didn't change how or who I am, I just changed how I perceived myself. For you, it sounds like you perceive changing your confidence as changing an aspect of your personality. Neither perspective is bad or good, making the meaning of "self" a very bias topic, so no one can really help you, give you advice, or tell you what to do, but I will suggest that what worked for me wasn't changing myself, my beliefs, hobbies, interests, looks, morals, or the things I think define who I am, but rather just changing how I see myself, my perception, and not caring about what everyone else thinks.
