It's real but at the same time is fiction. Not the whole manga is real. And it's obvious, you can't know everything what happened.
Some of it is real, some of it isn't. For example Thorfinn, Erik, Thorkell, Canute etc were real but they never met. Thorfinn was just a merchant and Askeladd was from a folktale.
Shenzy Siin it’s not real, some of the character and places are real but that doesn’t mean the story is true.
