I lived in a western U.S. wilderness, mostly alone, for 91/2 years. I wintered out alone twice with very little gear or extra food. I had 2 rifles, a lever action Winchester in a .22 LR and a lever action Marlin in a 30 30. No scopes, no high tech anything. I killed many deer, more than a few elk and more. I love a 30 30. Not too much, not to little, reasonably cheap to shoot. I crawled up as close as I could, usually between 30 and 75 yards, took my time, and was soon skinning out my critter. It didn’t blow up a bunch of meat either, especially when I got close enough to get in a good head shot.

I like the 30-30, it's a neat piece of history! But my go to gun for pigs is my AR in 300 Blackout with Hornady's 110 grain bullet! All my pigs have been between 80 and 110 yards. Never had a passthrough and every one of them laid down and went to sleep right where they were standing! I'm getting to old to have to go blood trailing a critter! If you have a passthrough shot, all the energy from where it exited the animal to where the bullet finally stops is wasted energy! The 300 Blackout dumps every bit of the energy from that little 110 gr. bullet in the animal!

Your hunting area is flush with game….. nice…..
Not the gun choice I go with, but caliber and firearm seems like the kind of choice Americans take personal, like cars and motors…. Some will pick up anything, other people not so much. Some guys want a corvette, carry a nine, and hunt with a .308 Winchester; other guys drive a Jeep, carry a 1911 in .45ACP, and hunt with an AR15 in whichever caliber upper they feel appropriate to the game, such as .350 Legend for them hogs…..

For reloader load some Barns TSX 165 grain bullets into the 30-30 using 32 grains of W 748.
The Barns bullets kill faster than any kind of lead core bullets.
This load 1 goes in the chamber and all the loads for a 30-30 go into the magazine.
The effects of a Barns TSX bullet on the vitals of animals is far more devastating than any lead core bullets.
Go watch the Barns TSX video to see these bullets passing through ballistic gel and causing a vortex affect from the 4 bullet peddles.

@@christophernolen4117 I saw a guy on you tube shoot a 500lb hog with a Remington 700 (7mm magnum), from a range of about 50 yards. That huge hog dropped instantly with zero movement.

Sure the 7mm has a punch..most those cartridges are in the 2500-2800 fps range zoom zoom

That is a nice 30-30 win set up for a firearm.
I have a Marlin 336 RC made in the 1950's I am going to sell.
I am going to start reducing the number of firearms I own because when my 86 year old mother passes away, I am leaving Communist 3rd world Banana republic United States for the last time to move back to Romania.

@@marktalley9251 From seeing old Marlins sold in gun shows I am looking at mid-range price $450 and with all the loaded ammo and lots of brass for reloading. / being in Oregon it would make near impossible to sell so any buyer I am thinking I would need to drive out of state to sell it with added cost of fuel to the sale.
There is zero info on this Marlin by the government due to the guns age when guns sold buy just going to a store then buying the guns off the self and this Marlin 336 RC was my grandfathers, he bought from a co worked at a woolen mill and my father's gun and them mine.
I am 63 years old, so I know the gun has been in the family longer than I have been alive.
My first shooting of this Marlin I was 6 years old.
I know longer use it and can't see any way I would use it being I hunt in Alaska and operate a guide service in Alaska.
I am also moving back to Romania in the future so many of my guns will be sold off.
The only non-original on the gun is it has a scoped mount and rings because when I got older and still used it the open sights became harder to see so it has been scoped with a 4x Leupold not going with the gun.
This Marlin is not a match shooting gun, you have to take it for what it is a Lever gun that shoots consistent 3-inch groups well with in hitting deer or pigs.
The barrel is a 4-grove rifling which shooting lead bullets the 4 grove is ideal for that.
I own a 30 cal 180 grain flat nose bullet mold I made lead bullets with gas checks to shot in this 30-30 which shoot exactly the same as commercial copper jacket bullets.

@@Lure-Benson I think they call them waffle tops. So it has been drilled and tapped for you to mount a scope on it! I sure wish I lived closer to you I sure would love to have it . Sir I'm almost positive it has ballard rifling instead of micro groove rifling! I think they only made the gun from 1949 to 1953 or 4. Sir I'm 66 years young and I know you're feeling!

600 LBS is big try like the 6.5 or 308 maybe 7mm 08 30 30 is ok but like to know what weight bullet we have to guess the flex tip this is the very thing that irritates most watching, my selection of a bullet would be 170 grain IL Hornady fp or rn anyway aim small have fun.I do have say that your scope is a very fine choice you just cant go wrong with a brand like that, rifle or scope great gear.
