Depends. If you look at the videos of the Indonesian one, there were boats which filmed how the sea simply bulged a lot up and down in deep areas close to where the crust fracture happened. There are many videos of Japanese boats filming their tsunamis doing that too far away from the coast. Now... once the water starts to get close to shore, the mass is too huge to continue with the same shape and then it starts to roll with the friction of the ground, turning more into the typical 'surfing' waves. But simply by physics and fluid dynamics, there is no way that you will have a single giant Hawaii-5-0 kind of wave like the drawing in the video. It will be a huge advancing mass of water, _maybe_ with huge waves on the top portions of the water mass, like the huge waves that have been filmed in those crazy north sea storms near Ireland. It would be like having the waves of a storm riding on top of a giant bulge of water that moves all at once.
Most tsunami are a chain of waves, not just one. example: a 60 foot one, then a 100 foot one, then 60 foot, then 40 foot. You get hammered by a series of waves, not just one like it is often shown.

Guys in Norway there's an unstable mountain called Akerneset and will one day slide into the fjord causing a flood wave about 80-100 meters tall, there's also a number of towns around the fjord like Hellesylt and Geiranger which will be receiving waves about 84 and 70 meters high. 2:34 As an engineer myself I can relate to setting up a controlled test thinking that your calculations are correct only to realize that your calculations were off. For my senior project I made a guided missile (I called it a guided rocket so my advisor wouldn't question what I was doing). Long story short I missed a negative sign so that the gyroscope that that up was down and down was up and vice-versa. Shortly after launch my missile dove straight into the ground. It was supposed to intercept a target in the air but just ended up breaking itself. I had to build another rocket from scratch since the impact broke everything :(

Guys in Norway there's an unstable mountain called Akerneset and will one day slide into the fjord causing a flood wave about 80-100 meters tall, there's also a number of towns around the fjord like Hellesylt and Geiranger which will be receiving waves about 84 and 70 meters high. Everyday I go to this live camera on Geiranger because that landslide can happen at ANY time. There's also a Norwegian movie about it called The Wave it's on Netflix, it's pretty sad.
