Such a great video!! I learned about 20 new things from it. My one question is why is the front of the seat the same as the back of the seat? What if I, er, the person I’m making this for, has a big butt!!?
This was the BEST tutorial I’ve EVER used! No one believed I made the pants the flat felled seam gave it that professional feel to it too! This was amazing and easy enough to follow along and I’m someone who needs things dumbed down for me. Some parts I had to rewind so I could be completely sure but I got it down and am so excited to keep making these. Thank you so much for giving us this for FREE it’s also helpful I didn’t need a pattern I don’t have a printer. god bless you can’t wait to make some for my family too😊

This seriously blew my mind, I am a beginner and I have yet to see these techniques. I was thinking I needed to start looked for a serger. I still might, but at least I have options.

Great video. I rewatched it at every step and was able to follow along and do my first French seam, flat feld seam, and break out my button hole foot for the first time! These seams are going to be much sturdier. Thank you. One thing - it looks like you are using 4 yards of fabric, not the 2 or 3 you recommend. I needed 4 yards as well.
This is the neatest way to make PJ pants and I own a few patterns/ have seen quite a few videos! I really hope you will make an updated one with pockets as I really like how this was finished, and can't figure out how to adapt patterns that I have with pockets to make it as nice as this
Just use a different patterns pocket pieces and then sew them in in the process of making these.
Or you could make square exterior pockets placed centered half way between the hip and the knee. (My preference for comfort)

This is just the tutorial I needed to watch but I have two questions. Why would you use elastic and a drawstring both. And number two how do you fold your template. Do you fold the front inside or the back inside? Thank you very much

Question: Why do you need both elastic and drawstring? Doesn't the drawstring cinch the pajamas tight when yiou pull on the drawstring ends and if so what does the elastic do if the drawstring is doing the cinching?

Thanks for the kind video! One thing I'm confused is when you trace around the pants, which line did you follow at the waistband? Front or back? I mean when the pants is folded in half, the top part of front side and back side are different.
The pajamas we traced didn't have a big difference between the front and the back but you can split the difference and trace between the lines.
Following this with pulling the elastic out a bit. Is no where near enough to get the pants on. :( how do you make them big enough to get over you thighs/hips? The pants I used fit fine

Thank you for the video. I didn't understand why you tucked the legs into each other. Was it to sew the back ends together? I've never sewn, but want to learn. I can not find comfy pants that do not have elastic in the waist band. The tight elastic hurts my stomach. I cut two store bought comfy pants to try to fix them. Ruined them both. Thanks again.
You can do it! You sew them like that to make the seat and front of the pants have a nice flat seam (so there is no bulkiness)
Great video. Would be nicer is you used a solid color against a lighter thread so real beginners can get a better visual. Also, if you could, can you show how to add a side pocket. I know it's probably a little different because of the waistband waist but a pocket would be nice on each side, thanks!

I’m quite confused when mentioning which sides to first pin on the pant legs. Inseam? Or the outside? How are you supposed to fold them together?
Which side is to be sewn first? Inside or outside? Or are you making a sleeve to house the second leg and sewing them together!?
No one in any tutorial specifies WHICH seam to close first.
2 yards is not enough to make a pair of these for a 5'6" woman. I followed exactly and got one leg cut out, but when I went to trace the second leg, the remaining piece was not wide enough. Long enough yes, but it fell 1.5" too short to cut out another leg piece. If you are going to make these you will need 4 yards of fabric, not 2-3.
Thanks for the feedback! For the length, 3 yards of fabric should work for pajamas that are 51" long or less.
3 yds = 108", 108 / 2 = 54, 54 - 3 (for top and bottom hems) = 51"
As far as the width with 44" wide fabric, the width of the pajamas should be 20" or less at the widest point when folded in half. If wider, the amount of fabric needed is the length of the PJs + 3", then multiply by 4. Divide by 36 to figure out the number of yards.
I think back side high will be bigger than the front side.

Why is this method only meant for PJs? I like the drawstring for very casual shorts or pants to wear outdoors as well. Thank you for this tutorial.

I really like this video and the straight forward way you present.
I am a novice sew'er who like to make a birthday present for my wife. I'd like to make a warm onesie pajama using two layers of material - polar fleece outside and sherpa fleece inside.
I have NOT seen a tutorial that addresses this full suit LINED onesie type effort. How would you suggest I construct the full onesie with the two layers of material?
Thinking through your video, perhaps I would essentially make two onesie's - one of each material and then fit them inside each other -- with the final assembly being one of outside seems or perhaps the long zipper opening --- and the adding hood and arm/leg contrasts?

thanks for the video! Is there a way to use the fabric more effectively? It looked like you had more off cut on each side than really necessary. Rather than just having one side with a lot and one side with a tiny bit.
Or can you still use them for other project regardless?
Hi Caroline, the fabric wasn't quite wide enough to fit the 2 legs side by side so there wasn't a very efficient way to use the fabric in this case. But I'm sure there's plenty of other things you can do with the extra fabric!

I love your videos. But I have a question. If I am making these as gifts, I wont have pajamas or pants to use as a template. Any way to estimate sizes?
Hi Amy, we don't have good estimates for sizes. If you can find a friend who has a similar size to the person you're making it for, you could ask if you can borrow them. (I know, kind of a weird question!) Or you can take any pair you can find and trace it smaller or larger. The good thing is the elastic and drawstring can tighten the waist if it's too big. You can also add extra length and make bigger hems in case you need to lengthen them to fit later.
OnlineFabricStore.net Thank you. Thought about making them for all the kids in the family but there are 12 kids and they range in age from 18 to 2yrs. Would be difficult to figure out the sizing for all of them especially bc they are 3 hrs away.

This tutorial is too fast. It's difficult to follow for beginners
Pause it when you need to.
You can rewatch any section you may need. Also pause when you need to and begin again as you are ready. That’s the beauty of online videos- lots of options! Also, as your skills improve you’ll be able to understand what she is doing while needing to rewatch fewer times. This video is perfect for this kind of learning as she doesn’t clutter it up with a lot of unnecessary chat.
Can you use the same technique for pants that are more tight-fitting (not PJs)?
Yes, though sometimes the back of the pants is a different shape than the front. You may be able to compensate for this when tracing, or if the material is stretchy it might not matter too much.
Shouldn't the back pattern have a longer crotch area?

Thanks for the details on how to sew. I'm looking into making some fleece and down socks and pants. Interesting how the pattern is made without having to find for free or purchase and how to make also with the different stitching potential. I'm amazed how expensive the pants are and I guess the socks are more reasonable priced. Thinking buying or finding from the Goodwill Store or Shopgoodwill.com a higher quality sleeping bag for the better material and just cutting in half and sewing back together. The fleece I will most likely buy since is so cheap and there was an even finer... I forget what it was called... mink or moleskin... something finer than the fleece for an inner liner. I'm almost thinking I could make into snow pants and add a third liners for the outside... a sil poly material is what I am thinking. I need to read into more and since are more long john like... I'm thinking the outer liner isn't required. Seems neat though. Like finding the free Slipper Boots Tilly and the Buttons pattern for the Slipper Boots (socks) I started thinking about turning those into boots with a leather outer and type 1 silicone sealed sole & sides. I cannot follow this at all. Let me see..4 separate piece. Flat seam inside edge of one leg ,right sides facing, french seem outside edge(google french seem) donsame for other leg. Then it gets a bit WHAT . I'll watch third time, maybe in slow mo.

It’s a good idea to tell people that the piece they are tracing should be flipped over BEFORE tracing it.
but what about the butt?
If you use a pair of pajamas that fits, it should be OK unless the back of the existing pajamas is constructed differently than the front. If it happens to be a pair that are worn out and you're not going to use again, you could rip out the seams and use the pieces to create your pattern pieces. Otherwise, it may be best to use an actual sewing pattern.

It's mainly because of sexism where men don't think women could be good at doing other jobs which in his own opinion may be because he only ever sees men at the other job places, we have a lot of women who make stuff with Microsoft and are not by sexist managers a secretary ffs, thats what society wants you to believe is that we still have women not being treated equally with men as there are people who assume women are employed for usually suspected as sexist places to work within the places they applied to work in even when the place is a bit of a advanced and skillful person looking for place.
People who would still feel as though women are not being respected by being given sexist jobs which they'd get because their employers might say where your from depends on how your profile could look like assuming someone born from wherever they were born with that of the place their born in has a story of just what people were good at as the places are sometimes believed to have a origin for where these people come from as well as what kind of job seems to be their place they were born ins main attraction or place the stuff is born/invented from.
