    I love this couple! The way he puts his arm around his wife's shoulder warms my heart. Plus this is a good demo. Keep up the good work "Old Country Cooks!"

    Thank you! I've had this model since it was first released (25+ years ago?) And I just pulled it out after it had been gathering dust at my second home for 15 years. Lol. Forgot how to use it.

    When I see the word knife I already have my interest peaked. That is s neat device. What is the thickest blade it will hone? 5/32? 3/32?

  • @lesgarten
    @lesgarten ปีที่แล้ว +2

    No offence to the folks who did this video but they gave some misinformation here. Honing is what you do to realign a bur that has formed on the edge of the knife from use. The knife is sharp, but the edge has rolled over a bit because the edge is thin and is prone to being rolled over. You use a honing rod for that. You'll see Chef's on TV do this all the time. They are not sharpening, they are honing. Just re aligning a sharp knife. If the knife is dull, honing won't help it.
    That first stage is profiling. You may have a knife that was sharpened originally at 25 or 15 or 10 degrees, whatever. Maybe somebody free handed it and it was sharpened at 17.23 degrees. That knife will need profiling to 20 degrees. This sharpener will "re-profile" in slot 1 to 20 degrees. The edge will not be good coming out of that slot. But it will get it to 20 degrees so all your knives will be at the same base angle. Slot 2 is for the actual sharpening at 20 degrees. It will sharpen the knife and leave a kinda toothy edge. You can stop here if you want. Slot 3 is the finishing slot. Just a little bit finer quality of the edge and removes a bit of the tooth on the edge from Slot 2. Sometimes better to leave the tooth on the blade and not go to slot 3.

    Nice video, thank you. Do you know how to clean the metal dusts in the slots or do they need cleaning at all? Thanks again

    • @OldCountryCooks
      @OldCountryCooks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Annie, turn the unit upside down. There is a round plug between the 'feet' under sharpening section number 1. Simply remove that plug, shake out any accumulated gunk and replace the plug. You should only need to do that about every 18 months under normal usage. The other sections are just wiped clean with a dry rag. Never use any wet items to clean the slots. I hope this helps.
      Thanks for watching and for asking your question.

    Thanks for the great video! Do you know if this can be used for serrated knives ?

    • @OldCountryCooks
      @OldCountryCooks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not supposed to be used on serrated blades.

    hi... do you pull or push the knife thru also how do you tell the front from the back on the chefs choice 250, or any sharpener ,or does it even matter?

    • @OldCountryCooks
      @OldCountryCooks  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Pull the knife. On this brand you would want the brand name facing you. Hope this helps!

  • @michellewatt2266
    @michellewatt2266 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    ? Do you run knife thru both #2 & 3 slots and if so how many times.

    • @OldCountryCooks
      @OldCountryCooks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you run it in slot 2 and then 3. I usually do slot 2 for 2 or 3 pulls on each side of the blade. Then I finish in slot 3 with a couple of pulls. Good question.
      You don't have to use slot 1 each time.

    Hello, good video and thank you for putting out this information. If you don't mind some constructive feedback, there is a pretty noticable background noise in your video, perhaps an external microphone would help? Thanks again for the video.

    First side is not honing it’s the sharpening slot, 2 and 3 are for honing

  • @paulacabbo466

    only slot 1 has a motorized spinning stone the hone side is manual with no motorized moving parts

    • @OldCountryCooks
      @OldCountryCooks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have a different model or a defective one. The one in this video has no manual slots, you can hear the knife being sharpened when you slide the knife through and I promise you it's a motorized sound. See minute marker 3.06 and you'll see what I mean. Thanks for leaving a comment though.
