    I love the interviews you've been running lately. It really helps to understand the nuances of the game that most fans and even players don't understand.

    Great interview/vid- it's always great to hear how professionals approach specific scenarios to the game (super timely given how dominate Cheng/Hughes are right now!)

    To be honest, I really dont think that setting outside is giving more options. How so? you only can do cuts, ll, diago effectively. If you are in the middle (so - much closer to standard play) you can lay left, right, shot left right, hit, poke, ... or set/option if pass or dig was good enough. Does not seem the offensive tactics were superior, it looks like they made very few mistakes and had a good vision! Which is phenomenal!! But I feel like in this vid, not the greatest aspect has been highlighted. cheers!

      @joscharutert392 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      But then you’re not moving the blocker. And on the left/right shot you can gamble, you’ll be right 50%

    • @bertramstier2540
      @bertramstier2540 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@joscharutert392 Fair point, but you dont really need to be afraid of the blocker towards the middle because of the variety the attacker has. Whereas when you 'always' set outside, the blocker can just wait there/just needs to spot the hitter rather than the setter in addition to the blocker having an easier game outside (percentage wise blocks more of the dangerous area). And your partner needs to be more accurate with the set as you always have a different distance and angle to set that position.

    • @joscharutert392
      @joscharutert392 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bertramstier2540 In the middle the blocker can spread block.
      Against the wide pass you can’t just wait outside, because then they could just set the passer and he’ll have an open net

    • @bertramstier2540
      @bertramstier2540 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@joscharutert392 Sure you can spread block. Then you are open to hard middle. There is always a counter on any attack or defense :) So - to me it comes down to number of quality/dangerous options. And you are taking away options on the outside (cause you cant do anything further to the side you got set). Middle, you have (at least) four dangerous options, outside you have two (and actually even fewer if you dont have optimal footwork) in addition to the game overall being more chaotic (again, higher accuracy needed during set, and more speed needed by attacker potentially so much that timing becomes an issue; or decrease options even further) in addition to endurance (longer ways) which later in the game will decrease your precision.

    • @joscharutert392
      @joscharutert392 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@bertramstier2540 the whole idea is getting the blocker off-balance (because he has to guard the 2-ball first) so you have much better vision and options than usual.
      If it weren’t for that, then yeah, the different attack locations would be about equally effective. And I‘d agree the longer distances would require more skill, especially in the wind, which could make an up-and-down set more attractive.

    I play a good amount of beach, but this video lacks the basic explanations. Not deep, but just a sentence or two to highlight what we are talking about. Not to be an ass, just feedback from a beach enthusiast who didn't understand much of this itw.
    Like the first minute. What happens? Who is who? How do you get there? What is the "it" she refers to all the time?

    • @barney3834
      @barney3834 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Basically talking about attacking on 2 and passing the ball more to the middle and beyond. The latter is to open up the court because the blocker has to respect the setter going over on two, yet can't rush back to the hitter as fast as the set travels.
      Also do a little digging in the crates to find that old McK video on blocking were Maddison explains 1,2,3,4s. Like show a lot of 2 blocks (diagonal) to set up a 3 (fake 2, but actually block line)

    Great interview, but lets be honest, the biggest weapon of Kelly Cheng is her passive-agressive behviour and lowkey trash talk on court, that tosses all their opponents out of their normal play. Mind games are strong in beach volley and in women regard, even stronger.

      in this regard, its impossible to compare men and women beach volley. Also there were some interesting insights when to play it and how to work with it. As opposed to "traditional" over on two, like Kerri Walsh played with Brooke Sweat.

      You need to get a wider perspective of time. Beach volleyball has been played for many decades now. So yes, something gaining popularity in the past couple of years is indeed still new when it comes to the history of the sport.
