Aaah. An Innocent! There are many people who believe that the books are evil, promote witchcraft and evil, and are of the devil. Usually, tho, they have not read the books.
Dumbledore letting the kids sing the school anthem however they wanted was (in my opinion) an important detail that they left out. it gives you the idea of what kind of wizard/headmaster dumbledore was. their magical education hasn't even begun yet, and he's already encouraging the kids to be creative. also, singing the school anthem in your own tune made the anthem a bit more personal to the students. a good way to build some early school pride.
There’s so many great details and subtext that truly help the audience understand why all witches and wizards who interact with dumbeldore respect and admire him and follow him, because he’s a great headmaster, and a great wizard :)) the movies, despite the great acting, still loses a bit of his more whimsical and warm hearted ways that cement why the characters and we as readers SHOULD root for dumbeldore.
It would have probably been awful to listen to, but I would have loved to hear it in the movie with Fred and George singing it like a funeral dirge! Frankly, I love Fred and George. The books wouldn’t be half as good without them. I think there could be books just covering all the mischief those two got up to!
My fiance that died couldn't retain anything he read so he got the books on tape and we used to have this old stereo that was capable of playing cassette tapes specifically so we could listen to all the books together and sometimes he'd have me read them out loud to him as well.. might sound cheesy but they're some of my favorite memories with him.. I plan to continue to do so with our son when he's old enough to be read books as long as Harry Potter and tell him his Dad and I used to do the same thing ❤
I'm sorry for your loss. I'm a widow myself. What you just said has me crying. That is so sweet. I hope your son learns to love his father, even though he's passed. And learns to love the Harry Potter books too. Best wishes dear. May God bless and protect you both. 🧓☮️🖖
One of our students had dyslexia, so when we did Literature Circles his group read the book aloud, and he listened. He absorbed more than the other members. But that was just a solution to his problem. I think it’s great that what you did with your fiancé became something special for you.
I have read the books, and listened to the audiobooks so very many times. I have been listening to them again over the last week or so (decreases my stress levels; wish I had known about your free link, but such is life). All that extraneous stuff said, it never occurred to me, that with all the other distracting changes between the books and the movies, with the changes in who said what, and ‘that isn’t how it is in the book’, I don’t think I ever realized, or noticed, that Peeves isn’t in the movies. And, you are right. Peeves is integral to all the books!
Neville running with the sorting hat on to the gryffindor table and then coming back embarassed to return it was also a comedy scene omitted from the movie
The fantastic Rik Mayall was cast and filmed as Peeves, but unfortunately, all his scenes were cut from the final edit. It can't be because he didn't do a great job, so I'm guessing he was cut for time, or to prevent too much confusion for non-book-reading audiences (only Sir Nicholas out of the 4 house ghosts made any kind of appearance during the early films, and his story was trimmed down drastically). The film-makers were kind of notorious for doing this. When OotP went into filming, the script editors completely cut out Kreacher from the story - Deathly Hallows hadn't been published yet - and Rowling had to put down her foot and told them to keep him in because he would be important later.
I remember reading somewhere that Mayall was so good that the kids, and they were just kids, kept falling out of character during the shooting of his scenes. The new students were supposed to be afraid, terrified, bemused by Peeves, and instead, they were laughing out loud at his antics.
technically we see the friar and the bloody baron during the scene when the ghosts first appear. but almost any and all plotlines involving them was cut from the movies
As one who have read the Harry Potter Books; we never get a full introduction of the Hufflepuff ghost; but I don't see much difference between the two Nearly Headless Nick(s) or "Deathly Hallows" Helena Ravenclaw(s) the grey lady(s) and the Moaning Myrtle character is every bit as flighty and full of character in the movies as she was in the books. The Hogwarts song from "The Goblet Of Fire" book wasn't cut out completely in the Year 4 film, we hear Hagrid and Hermione sing the first 2 or 3 lines of its reprise just before Harry discovers a dead Barty Crouch Sr. in the Forbidden Forest. It was actually the Sorting Hat song about the Hogwarts Houses that was being sung in the first book. There is a different sorting hat song each Hogwarts year through the literary timeline, we just don't get much of the theme out of the movies.
Honestly, I read all the books twice before I saw the movie pertaining to each book. I read them once to myself and then to my daughter who was relatively young at the time. I didn't pick up the first book until just before the 3rd book was released. I was on maternity leave hearing all the hype and controversy. I figured one day my kids might want to read these books, and so I should know what they were about. Shockingly, I'm a bigger Potter fan than either of my kids, and neither have read the books themselves. I've also listened to the books at least twice and possibly 3 times and have seen the movies at least that many, probably more. Having said that, I think each version, the books vs. the movies, brings something to the table. The only thing that ever disappointed me in the movies was the portrayal, or lack thereof, of Harry's prolonged and desperate grief when Serius dies in the books. But this is something you won't get to until much later. I feel the rest of the changes were relatively inconsequential given the age of the actors in the beginning and the length of the movie in the end. The movies still portray the essence of the story line.
My first problem with movie is how they butchered Ron and made Heemione this perfect girl who can do everything and knows everything. And also Ginny, she literally has no charcter in the movies
Apparently Voldemort was not sucking Quirrell's brain when Harry first met him in the Leaky Cauldron, no scar pain. What falls apart for me is the whole 'Snape is a bad guy' business after the trio find out he helped harry survive at the Quidditch match and after Quirrell's dialog at the end of Vol. 1. That type of news usually alters a person's mindset, yet Harry becomes more entrenched.
Thee theory I was told about that was that Harry believed that Snape wanted to be the one to kill him and not anyone else which how Snape always acted made sense however he played his part way to well both in the books and in the movies
because in the book snape is cruel and abusive to all students who are not slythering. and especially vile to harry and neville. which explains why harry believes snape to be a bad guy even after learning he tried to save him. in the book when dumbledore tells harry that snape indeed hates him because of his father and saved him so he wasn´t in james´debt anymore and could go back and hate him in piece again. harry is dumbfounded how weird snape is because of that. and year after year snape continues to delight in belittleing and tormenting harry every opportunity he gets. in the movies snapes behaves very differently
I was with you until you said how differently Snape was portrayed in the movies. I didn't really get that. Snape is just as ugly to Harry in the movies as he is in the books.
@@susbchandlerNo he is not. In movies he somehow became a tragic hero. In DH, when Dumbledore asks Snape do you care for Harry, in movies he showed him saying always with lily's patronus. But in books he says always when dimbledore asks if he still loves lily. That one line changes so much that movie watchers would never understand the hatred book teaders have for him.
This is why i say read the books besides the movies but the fact there planning a harry potter tv series its an opportunity to use every aspect of the book compared to the movies version plus stories before and after harry potter story. Like they could use story more about harry parents time at hogwarts etc...
A few really subtle hints would have been so cool that something sinister resided under Quirrel's headwrap. Not too obvious of course to spoil the ending but enough to make you say, "Oh yeah, now I know why happened"
Being a History buff I noticed the Bloody Baron is portrayed in an anachronistic way as from the 17th Century, not the 10th or 11th centuries. That could be about the time of the Conquest. The Bayeux Tapestry would be a good costume guide for the founders.
A great deal of the changes could be explained with run time. Time is king in a movie. Also, things that work in a book, don't work in a movie. I was rather confused with the differences of the ghosts, but being that they weren't my faves in the book, no big deal. As far as Peeves is concerned, good riddance to bad rubbish. He was by far both my son's and my LEAST favourite character! Again, the cost of creating such a C.G. based character would have been considerable and would have also added considerable run time to the movie. Five minutes here and there DOES add up quickly. One thing that was consistent about the books was that Harry's hair was described as, "Just all over the place," Which drove both of the Mother figures in his life nutz! Giving the actor a buzz-cut and a wig would have solved the issue. Other than that, I was fine with the changes... Well... I did wonder how the Hell Trevor got onto the landing in front of Mc Gonnegal. Well, magic, of course. In conclusion, I really enjoyed the first two movies. I was considerably disappointed that the entire feel of the movies were changed afterwards.
Agreed, but I think it’s partly what the director thinks fans want in it. Because despite their starting at 3 hours, Peter Jackson virtually crammed everything into Lord of the Rings! I know personally that if I tried to read it I would have given up because of so much detail of places, various types of characters (humans, dwarves, elves just to name a few) & I’d be too confused to finish the book. Fans of it seemed happy enough though
The concept for comparing books and films side-by-side is great. And I love Harry Potter books, films and games. Insta-subbed. Can't wait to see all the contents you've covered so far!
The books are amazing and those first few are so funny. You can also get them on Audible or similar audio books with the amazing Jim Dale. He does all the characters
I love reading books. The Harry Potter series I read once then when back to Mercedes Lackey, Ann rice, and Larry Dixon along with vampire, not the Twilight series, vampire romance.
Hey Gibby, I love the videos for both HP & LotR! I was wondering if it might be worth experimenting with replaying the footage from the movies in slow motion, or kind-of slow motion. It would give the videos more of a reflective quality, and allow for viewers to soak in details of the footage in relation to your voiceover. Also, it would prevent you from having to replay the same clips like a dozen times over the course of the video. Either way, just an idea. I love the channel concept and videos regardless! 🧙🏻♂🪄🧝🏻♂🧌👻
Interesting idea… I’ll have to try this out! It’s difficult cause if it’s edited wrong the video will get demonetized/blocked for copyright. So we’ll have to see if slomo passes the test! Thanks for watching!
A number of comments mention the differences being because of the run time of the movir, but...come on, it's Harry Potter, the films could run for 4 hours and they would still have as many fans! I was really surprised they didn't release extended versions of the films once they realised how popular the were, especially as so many of the scenes that were cut and have been seen on youtube would have greatly enhanced the movies.
It was state in the movies that the had choose a different house for two of the three main characters, the hat chose raven craw for Hermione and slithering for Harry, ron was the only one supposed to be in gryffindor, if you also count Nerville, he was supposed to go in hufflepuff
The difference in media means that some things that carry well in one medium doesn't carry well in the other medium. The changes are for time, because it can't be reproduced in the new medium, or because they are trying to carry the spirit of the thing but cannot directly reproduce it.
Robin Williams asked Chris Columbus (Who did Mrs. Doubtfire) to put him in the movie, But the stupid director said Robin wasn't English. He was an American therefore couldn't be in it
🎩 🎼🎵🎶 "Oh you may not think I'm pretty, But don't judge on what you see, I'll eat myself if you can find A smarter hat than me. You can keep your bowlers black, Your top hats sleek and tall, For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat And I can cap them all. There's nothing hidden in your head The Sorting Hat can't see, So try me on and I will tell you Where you ought to be. You might belong in Gryffindor, Where dwell the brave at heart, Their daring, nerve, and chivalry Set Gryffindors apart; You might belong in Hufflepuff, Where they are just and loyal, Those patient Hufflepuffs are true And unafraid of toil; Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw, if you've a ready mind, Where those of wit and learning, Will always find their kind; Or perhaps in Slytherin You'll make your real friends, Those cunning folks use any means To achieve their ends. So put me on! Don't be afraid! And don't get in a flap! You're in safe hands (though I have none) For I'm a Thinking Cap!"
It's funny how Dumbledore was mad, but he was also right more often than any other character in the series about a wide variety of subjects: Voldemort, Harry, what was gonna happen to Fudge, just to name a few.
peeves doesn´t even exist in the movies. and that´s not the only thing they changed, cut or omitted. at this point it is better to consider the movies an entirely different version of harry potter, an AU (alternate universe) if you will.
Another small difference was that in the book Hermione almost ran to the stool and jammed the sorting hat eagerly on her head. The film showed her slowly walking up to the stool with visible trepidation.
I think the films were ok but because of time restrictions ( making the films to long ) they missed out some very important parts which made the films lacking. The books were fantastic, the films didn’t do them justice.
You left out the fact that Harry's eye color was supposed to be green, but they went with Daniels natural eye color because he kept having bad reactions to the colored contacts.
The change with McGonagall placing the hat on the head is something more typical with real schools if it were necessary because of what happened with Neville.
I am not much of a reader (too time consuming): but I am a fan of the movies: nonetheless, internet wise I pick up other information in regards to the book series as well. And if they would have done the movies in a close proximity of the books, perhaps the movies would have been more interesting?
I think the changes between the scenes are not critical. Yes, the songs of the Hat are out, but non-book readers would not miss anything. Peeves being cut is the only thing that's critical, but the characterization of Ghosts don't really matter for the overall plot throughout series as neither Nick, Baron or Friar had big impact on the stor and characters. Peeves and Grey Lady are the only important Ghosts to the story and her role was revealed only by the end of the story, which is way after this movie's release. As to why Hagrid didn't lead the students straight to McGonagal mainly comes to the locations of Hogwarts, which are WAY different in the castle layout between the media. Hell, even throughout the movies Hogwarts changes many times, and trsut me, I can go on on movie Hogwarts all day. Anyways, knowing the layout, Hagrid probably just left students by the main door and said to them to just go up the stairs, which led them straight to McGonnagal, who already waited in the room adjacent to the Great Hall.
while i agree that many of the changes to the scenes weren't so bad that they completely changed the story (like some did in the later movies), I would say that the harry potter series of books is all about the world building and details. J.K.Rowling did a lot of good work in fleshing out the world. they had their own music (A Cauldron Full of Hot, Strong Love), mannerisms, holidays and events (like the headless hunt, and Nearly Headless Nick's deathday celebration.), they had a whole history of things from the goblin rebellion, to the house ghosts having their own history. Whole side plots were removed from the story, like S.P.E.W, and Winky the house elf, and sirius black sending harry a firebolt he strategically acquired, and sending Ron pigwidgeon who was holding a permission slip for harry, so he could go to hogsmeade (giving ron the owl because he was technically responsible for ron losing his rat). We lost out on the love story between harry and Ginny (we were given that god aweful shoe tying scene that made us think ginny was about to give him the tentacular tickle). even more annoyingly, we didn't get to hear luna give her quidditch commentary (Loser's Lurgey, eh?). you tug 1 thread, and the rest of the sweater comes apart. No winky means no trip to the kitchens. No winky means no S.P.E.W, which means no hermione learning to knit hats, and no harassing people to join spew. No spew means harry doesn't get to appreciate the large statue of the elf/mermaid/centaur looking up at a wizard with adoration. which means harry doesn't empty all the galleons he had on him into the fountain (the donations to the fountain were sent to saint mungo's hospital for magical maladies) When you get rid of the details (even the minor ones), you get rid of the personality.
It does seem odd. Best guess I have is that it was just Hogwarts alumni tradition to keep this ceremony a secret. This is a common thing in the real world as well for private institutions. But it does seem unrealistic that over time at least one person didn’t let it slip.
A bit of trivia: the redhead girl in the movie is the director's daughter. JK Rowling did not want American actors, but Chris Columbus sneaked his daughter into the movie, so she is the only American in the films.
It always made/makes me crazy when an author has best selling books world wide, and the fans LOVE what that person created, so the movie people have to change things around because they can't compete with the "perfection" of the book(s). JKR is brilliant. There are so many nuances in the Potter series that the movie people should have made each book into two or three movies to get it all in. I also think the story wasn't respected as actually plotted literature, but treated, instead, as a kids' cartoon, until far too far into the series. Then there is the "Nigel" problem with the movies.... They cut out all sorts of good supporting characters from the books, then for no good reason invent Nigel and insert him into Colin Creevey's place.... Or the way Prisoner of Azkaban is turned in a Dia Del Muerte fest... Grrrrr!!!
Minor issues, IMO. Remember that when they make a movie, there are times and budget constraints, as well as a limit to how long a movie can be. After all, they did break HP7 into 2 separate movies. And I also think that some of the solutions they had found for the movies, especially later in the series, work better than in the books (and my all Potter Heads forgive me for this blasphemy...)
The chances are that they had McGonagall place the hat on the kids heads to save time and trouble in a movie. There are a lot of things you can do in a book that are impractical in a movie.
Most film changes I can understand the reasoning behind, but the change in the Sorting Hat scene from alphabetical order to mostly main_character order was just weird and clunky
Yea, it’s some of those smaller details that make no sense. Do they really affect the story? No. But is there literally ANY good reason behind the change? Also no.
I'm worried about the series coming however I think they can make right a lot of wrongs especially when it comes to Neville and Ginny or even the Golden Trio so much was left out its almost criminal
Snape is wayyyy too old. In the book he was the same age as Lily, James and the Marauders. Lily and James died at 21 when Harry was 1. This would have made them around 31 now. Whereas Snape in the movie is over 50 probably closer to 60. This does not work.
I'm glad t see someone else who dislikes changes from books to movies. Of course it's necessary to omit some details due to time constraints, what trully pisses me off is when they change the locations and plots radically. I first got offended by PRISONER OF AZKABAN changes, although they were relatively light compared to later. GOBLET OF FIRE really went off the deep end, and it was truly downhill from there. Too bad that Richard Harris had to up and die (in real life), but Iam McKellen became a MEAN, angry Dumbledore, definitely not the Dumbledore portrayed in the books. BUT - the worst, most egregious changes were in the last two movies - WHY put the Weasley's house out in the middle of a swampy mess? And the battle between Harry and Voldemort - what a BS, Hollywoodish gratuitous violence! And talk about omissions - the whole wand thing - the twin cores, Harry's gaining ownership of the Death stick, etc. I threw those DVDs away. Garbage!
What pissed me off, perhaps especially as an autistic, was the changing castle and grounds between films. Like with some changes from books which aren't necessary, I could say its artistic license and such. But being such a success from the first, I can only understand if in the second they were amending for future or ideal sets/aesthetic or logistics. But since there was no apparent reason, it should have all stayed put from the get go. I don't see why peeves would have made a difference to add and he wouldn't need to appear after the first introduction; could also divert around it as mentioning of peeves. I also think the Knight should have actually done his shenanigans and help find trilauneys room if I remember right, but nowadays I don't see harm adding him. They'd have made a mint if they'd have continued that multi disc thing like in the old days for a drastically extended version with all this. I think the Wensley brothers friends should have also been seen collecting Hagrids dragon, and if I'm correlating right, linked it with the dragon in the triwizard games-maybe it wasn't that dragon? :s Norbert, that's his name. Maybe perhaps also more insight into the malfoy dynamic too, perhaps a spin off :s :o
Unfortunately they cut Peeves out because the actor playing Peeves was so funny, that the director couldn't stop laughing. So they wrote the character off
It’s one of the omissions that was wrong. In Order of the Phoenix, after Fred & George make their escape from the castle after suffering Umbridge’s sadistic punishments, Fred says “Give her hell from us, Peeves” and from then on is a list of all the chaos and mayhem Peeves caused because he hated her just as much as the staff and students did
Bruh, that was the point! Peeves comes off as irritating when you first read the books, but as you go back, you can't help but laugh at his character! They should have kept his character.
•I’m glad my fav HP person Seamus Finnigan survived the book to movie cuts •Reminder not all first year Hogwarts students are the same age. •Trump won the 2024 election
I'm more of a picture kind of person so no matter how many times people tell me to read the book I just can't get pass the first few pages without yawning... believe me I tried.

First video I've come across, really enjoyed it. My daughter was the Potter fan not me, but maybe it's time I had a go at them... I wasn't exactly the target audience at the time, however I did enjoy Percy Jackson (but I'm a lover of Greek myths)... I'm fortunate to have been gifted a Kindle so on the basis of this and other videos that I will check I think it's time to dip into the Potter verse. 🤔🤭🕰️⌚⏰. Like many I do wish the author would step away from social media and the spotlight and just let the books speak for themselves. I have seen almost all the films, care of my daughter - but after this video no wonder things often didn't make sense 🤔.
Who is Peeves? Did I miss it in the video where you explain who this character is? I gather that he is important, but as someone who never read the book, I have no clue who this person is. Is he a ghost?
Great question! Sorry I didn’t explain it further here, but Peeves is a poltergeist, which the books differentiate from a regular ghost. He has a physical form, unlike the ghosts, but can become invisible or phantom-like at will. He’s essentially a prankster who wreaks havoc on the school by messing with the staff and students. He’s extremely loud and obnoxious. 😂 But he is in almost every single book and is quite an essential character to leave out.
To follow up Gibby's explanation, a poltergeist is not a ghost (which is a spirit of a deceased person), but is a manifestation that haunts a certain place, and is generated by the presence of things in that location. In the case of Hogwarts, Peeves is created and sustained by the mischievous energy of the students themselves, which accounts for his love of pranks and boobytraps, and his respect for the Weasley twins (two of the biggest troublemakers in the school).
I have also heard it theorized (but I don't think it's ever been suggested or even acknowledged by Rowling) that Mr Filtch & Mrs Norris are not a squib and his cat, but another poltergeist, this one unintentionally generated by the staff at Hogwarts (who enforce rules and punish rule-breaking). Filtch as the Order to Peeves' Chaos.
The Sorting Hat's most important moment comes in Order of the Phoenix, Chapter 11. It's ignored in the films and sees to be ignored by most fans of the books. It's a serious warning for Hogwarts to stand united or risk being destroyed.
Especially albus Dumbledore creature the crouches molly weasly nevel long bottom harry potter draco malfoy luna good and and professor McGonagall greve❤️ 💖 💕
The title is misleading. The title makes it seem that you are going to show a deleted scene rather than talk about stuff we already know. Putting a proper title stops people from wasting time if this is not the content they are looking for.
The books are so much better than the films, the films are visually gorgeous, but there’s none of the humour, detail or atmosphere of the books. Both have their places , films on a cozy night in with a pizza, books anytime, anyplace!
I notice you spend a lot of time talking about things that are important to the story in later books and is early development, however iirc the movies started coming out before the books are finished coming out, so many of these moments the writers and directors of the movie aren’t aware of how important exactly they are so they decide to cut a lot of “unimportant fluff” as I’m sure they’d put it
Interesting, but I gave up halfway through because of the high-speed no-time-for-breathing pace of the monologue - a common failing in videos of this general type. Also, it's kind of shouty.
How would a muggle, like Hermione get a copy of Hogwarts: A History ? She was from a non- magical family. She was the Definition of a Muggle. How did she know about Hogwarts before she got there?
The Harry Potter mythos is Fascist. I'm not the first person to point that out. For someone who is such a staunch critic of authoritarianism and Fascism, JK Rowling based the entire structure of Harry Potter on it, both in how muggles are treated, to the goblins, house elves, giants, and the different Houses the students are placed in.
That's the point isn't it? Showing how things like that are not good things. The deatheaters are treating muggles with hate and kills them.....they are bad guys. The ministry is blind to things and the leader uses every dirty things governments use to discredit and segregate so they can cover up the truth and keep power. She is literally using it as commentary and criticism to these behaviors.

Whoa! Never knew that. Wish I could’ve seen those in the cut
@@factorfantasyweekly Me too! Although I hated Peeves in the books.
I remember reading somewhere that Mayall was so good that the kids, and they were just kids, kept falling out of character during the shooting of his scenes. The new students were supposed to be afraid, terrified, bemused by Peeves, and instead, they were laughing out loud at his antics.
Actually, it's because the kids couldn't get through a scene without laughing, I remember an article about it
technically we see the friar and the bloody baron during the scene when the ghosts first appear. but almost any and all plotlines involving them was cut from the movies
There is a different sorting hat song each Hogwarts year through the literary timeline, we just don't get much of the theme out of the movies.
i read all of the books. I watched all of the movies. I was a good Dad.
I’m so excited to have just stumbled upon this series!!! I’m subscribing!!
Thanks for watching! I am excited to continue it 🙏🏼
Honestly, I read all the books twice before I saw the movie pertaining to each book.
@@susbchandler believe it or not but snape is nicer to everyone in the movies, including harry
Can't wait to see all the contents you've covered so far!
except that it wasn't Snape that made Harry's scar hurt. It was Quirrel playing host to Voldemort that made his scar hurt.
Thank you for your video!
I have read all the books .🧙♀️🧹⚡️🪄🛖
The books are amazing and those first few are so funny. You can also get them on Audible or similar audio books with the amazing Jim Dale. He does all the characters
The first years knew how to enter the school: their Entrence letters drew them onwards! Their magicians actually🤗
They should make the UK version available for e-books in the U.S.
It’s about money. How many showings per theater per day.
@@jonathanmcvay4499 At least 3, and DVD sales would go through the roof.
It was state in the movies that the had choose a different house for two of the three main characters, the hat chose raven craw for Hermione and slithering for Harry, ron was the only one supposed to be in gryffindor, if you also count Nerville, he was supposed to go in hufflepuff
A movie can never include all of the details explored in the book.
However, a visual presentation provides details only hinted at in a book.
The difference in media means that some things that carry well in one medium doesn't carry well in the other medium. The changes are for time, because it can't be reproduced in the new medium, or because they are trying to carry the spirit of the thing but cannot directly reproduce it.
Yes, the changes were warranted. If you put everything in the movie it would be simply HOURS and HOURSE long. This is common in film scripts.
Robin Williams would have been great as Peeves
Robin Williams asked Chris Columbus (Who did Mrs. Doubtfire) to put him in the movie, But the stupid director said Robin wasn't English. He was an American therefore couldn't be in it
It’s very difficult to determine what goes into a movie from a book adaptation. Things will get left out.

"Oh you may not think I'm pretty,
But don't judge on what you see,
I'll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me.
You can keep your bowlers black,
Your top hats sleek and tall,
For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
And I can cap them all.
There's nothing hidden in your head
The Sorting Hat can't see,
So try me on and I will tell you
Where you ought to be.
You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;
You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;
Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
if you've a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;
Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.
So put me on! Don't be afraid!
And don't get in a flap!
You're in safe hands (though I have none)
For I'm a Thinking Cap!"

I loved the song the sorting sang each year. Each one was so clever. It made me respect jk even more. I was disappointed that they left the songs out.
It's called time and it's a real shame that the full ceremony isn't shown.
peeves was a part of some of the deleted scenes for the first movie IIRC.
No he wasn't.
I would of like to see they in the movies.
They need to rea new the full set of films and put back all the deleted seens and let everyone see the true films
These books got me through my father's death. I cried like crazy when Dumbledore died.
Another small difference was that in the book Hermione almost ran to the stool and jammed the sorting hat eagerly on her head. The film showed her slowly walking up to the stool with visible trepidation.
All I remember Harry saying to the Sorting Hat was "Not Slytherin, Not Slytherin" Nothing about "I want Gryffindor".
I think the films were ok but because of time restrictions ( making the films to long ) they missed out some very important parts which made the films lacking. The books were fantastic, the films didn’t do them justice.
now i really want to read the books.
Then at least get the audio books.
No spew means harry doesn't get to appreciate the large statue of the elf/mermaid/centaur looking up at a wizard with adoration. which means harry doesn't empty all the galleons he had on him into the fountain (the donations to the fountain were sent to saint mungo's hospital for magical maladies)
When you get rid of the details (even the minor ones), you get rid of the personality.
Plot ho,e: Ron is a pureblood, several generations of Hogwarts alumni, so how is it he did not know about the sorting?
It does seem odd. Best guess I have is that it was just Hogwarts alumni tradition to keep this ceremony a secret. This is a common thing in the real world as well for private institutions. But it does seem unrealistic that over time at least one person didn’t let it slip.
@@factorfantasyweeklyjust like secret societies.
He knew about the sorting, he just didn't know the details, since his brothers were lying to him about it.
@@TomBruhh Yes, Fred and George do have a rather sadistic sense of humour...🙄
I thought there was a spell to prevent older students from sharing details about the ceremony with with others…
Grrrrr!!!
Unfortunately in books and movies details never link, wish they did
Minor issues, IMO.
Also no.
There were actually scenes filmed for peeves but they ended up getting cut
I'm worried about the series coming however I think they can make right a lot of wrongs especially when it comes to Neville and Ginny or even the Golden Trio so much was left out its almost criminal
I feel like any changes between the book and the movie were decided on by J K Rowlings.
Not the same as the changes Jackson made to Tolkien's LOTR
Snape is wayyyy too old. In the book he was the same age as Lily, James and the Marauders. Lily and James died at 21 when Harry was 1. This would have made them around 31 now. Whereas Snape in the movie is over 50 probably closer to 60. This does not work.
Witch characters we see? How can one not make that joke
Witch? Or which?😁😁😁
I saw the movies, but I did not read the books. Maybe it’s time.
Garbage!
Simple solution to time constraints. DON'T HAVE ANY FUQING TIME RESTRAINTS! Make Long movies!
after Sir Richard Harris died it was Michael Gambon not Ian Mc kellen who continued in the role.
Peeves not being in the movie was never ok in my opinion!
the sorting hat's song is in hogwarts legacy btw.
The Books are beter than the Films 🎥
Better
Unfortunately they cut Peeves out because the actor playing Peeves was so funny, that the director couldn't stop laughing. So they wrote the character off
It’s one of the omissions that was wrong. In Order of the Phoenix, after Fred & George make their escape from the castle after suffering Umbridge’s sadistic punishments, Fred says “Give her hell from us, Peeves” and from then on is a list of all the chaos and mayhem Peeves caused because he hated her just as much as the staff and students did
Well that actor was originally part of the BBC’s cast of “The Young Ones”, wasn’t he? Ade Edmondson? 😂
Bruh, that was the point! Peeves comes off as irritating when you first read the books, but as you go back, you can't help but laugh at his character! They should have kept his character.
They really are.
Never judge a book by its movie.
I wish we could see all the muggles witches and wizards' house elves from Harry Potter greif for their loved ones in the films🤞 😪 😢 😫 😔 😕

But the medium of film and books accomplish story telling differently

@ronaldsmith6829 there's no need for a remake. It's a ridiculous idea.
So... what was the sorting hat's best moment that was cut from the film?
Read the books
The Sorting Hat's most important moment comes in Order of the Phoenix, Chapter 11. It's ignored in the films and sees to be ignored by most fans of the books. It's a serious warning for Hogwarts to stand united or risk being destroyed.

I wonder how the Sorting Hat acquired the scar on his right cheek ?
And whose hat is it anyway ?
The Hat was Godric Griffindors he enchanted it JK released that information online I'm not sure about the scar though
Because The Sorting hat is secretly a clone of Harry!
The title is misleading. The title makes it seem that you are going to show a deleted scene rather than talk about stuff we already know. Putting a proper title stops people from wasting time if this is not the content they are looking for.
Isn’t there a directors cut? C’mon lets find out
no the movies could have been so much better typical of movies
Peeves should have been left in.
Stop making excuses for why they didn't put things into the movie from the book. Those elements is what makes the the original story what it is.
* Those elements ARE...
The scenes were not necessary to the plot.
Haven't watched. Is it the part where Peter Gryphon gets sorted into the house for registered sex offenders?

How would a muggle, like Hermione get a copy of Hogwarts: A History ?
She was from a non- magical family.
She was the Definition of a Muggle.
How did she know about Hogwarts before she got there?
She wasn't a muggle, she was muggle born. There is a difference. She is a witch despite being muggle born.
She uses the theme of fascism as a foil, not as propaganda.
