    I watched one of your videos and purchase some maple walnut and cherry to make some boards. So far I have made five boards the largest 18" x 24" x 1 3/4". Your plans are very helpful. I have looked at other Utube videos on end grain boards but yours has to be the best.
    Keep up the fantastic work.

      Thank you for your purchase buddy.
      I'm glad you get something out of it.
      There is much more designs on the way +videos. It's just so darn hard to get enough time for everything.
      Once again thank you, and thank you for your kind words. Regards

    I made some clamps that would probably work better in these type of glue ups...they put pressure on top and sides at the same time...I haven't tried them yet but the engineering is sound. You always do great work. I made one of these but my maple was still to wet...so an expensive piece of fire wood lol.

    • @Slovenianwoodworker
      @Slovenianwoodworker  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I'm familiar with that kind of clamps. Carpenters here are using them for a very long time. They apply horizontal/ vertical pressure.
      For some reason I don't own them.
      Thank you for your kind words.

    I love your work. I have a question on how you glue up your 45 degree or 60 degree cut boards (like the one on the end) without it slipping when you clamp it. I tried making a 3D cutting board and couldn’t clamp angled boards together without then sliding out of place, so I wasn’t able to get tight joints. Thanks

    • @Slovenianwoodworker
      @Slovenianwoodworker  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there. Yes gluing angles require some work. When I glue all angled pieces for the first time I out some wooden stock chroos the whole board. At the beginning the middle and the end. Those wooden support I clamp super strong before I apply clamps on the side which they will hold all cut pieces together. That is the key. Than I squeeze them and that's it. Just remembered to to tighten chroos hold down pieces really hard. In other video you can see what I'm talking about. Good luck

    • @ICanMakeThat
      @ICanMakeThat 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Slovenian Woodworker thanks! Do you have a link to the video you are talking about showing how you clamp it? I couldn’t find the right one. Thanks!

      Thanks Uros! I downloaded all three cutting board plans and already have ideas for more. I’m also doing some wall art using different size triangles and different color stains.
      I don’t have a planar or a joiner. How would you advise getting everything as level as possible? Squaring all the pieces with my tablesaw, gluing together, then sanding with orbital or flat sander?

    • @Slovenianwoodworker
      @Slovenianwoodworker  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      GORDON STEPHENSON Glad to hear that.
      Well. Flatness or square wood is essential for nice tight joints when gluing. Without jointer is is harder but still possible. As long you'll begin with at least one side flat or close to 90° you'll be able to make it all on table saw. As you stated. Just rip all the pieces and glue them together. And after that you can flatten everything with router and jig or make it flat as possible by sanding . It helps if you have long rip fence. Good luck mate.

    How do you make a 24inch by 24 inch end grain cutting board with only a 12 inch planer? Love your board by the way

    • @Slovenianwoodworker
      @Slovenianwoodworker  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It takes a bit more time but it can be done..the same way I did it when I started woodworking.
      Make sequence for 24" board split it in half and glue each half separately. Than plane it one by one so you have the same thiknes. Gently rip jointing edge on each board so you'll have nice straight joint. Apply glue on each half put 2 pieces of wood chroos the board on each side and clamp it. This will hold both halfs horizontal. Than clamp halfs together. Some more cutting and gluing and you're done. In the end you can flaten it with router and sled.
      I appreciate. Thank you

      @@Slovenianwoodworker Thanks for such a quick reply...subscribing now. Also one more question. On pic of the cutting boards there is one that looks like it has blue wood. Is there such a thing? I know or Paduk and Purple heart but never seen blue.

    • @Slovenianwoodworker
      @Slovenianwoodworker  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem. If you wanna learn more about cutting boards I'm working on series of videos just about that. First one will be published in approx. in one week. About the blue colour. That is just visual effect. That wood is sapele mahogany (Kongo) which under florencent light can give blueish color. (Endgrain) Otherwise in nature actual blue colored wood doesn't exist. Thanks

    • @Slovenianwoodworker
      @Slovenianwoodworker  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Pam. You need good quality sawblade for riping. And good saw. If saw is underpowered go slow with consistent speed. The most tricky part is gluing. Angled pieces can slip. Check my other cutting board video and see how i glue them. Good luck

    G'day from Australia, Is there any one out there could help, I do enjoy your work! however I do have a question though every time I flatten the end grain cutting board and put back on the bench It whorps back to the side just flattened, I can only use the router to flatten the board this has happened several times now the timber is very dry and end grain so I thought I'd ask the professionals for "HELP" before I quit the project this Is the first attempt to make a cutting board. Can you offer any suggestions? Cheers D

    • @Slovenianwoodworker
      @Slovenianwoodworker  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +David Dorman Hello David. Well I never heard of something like this to be honest.
      One reson that board whorps can be heat that is created while routing. But I don't believe this is the couse. I suspect your router jig.
      I would say that is not very sturdy and when you are in the middle of your board you go lower and route a bit more and than to its end it get to same hight .This would explain why your board looks like is warped. Other reson can be that you don't level wood to rest after first planning. Even if wood is dry and at the proper moisture leave it overnight so it can rest. Check for this things and come back with your findings. I'm glad if I can help.
      Thanks for stopping by and greatings to warm Australia.

    • @Slovenianwoodworker
      @Slovenianwoodworker  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pedro Hernandez Hi Pedro.
      No problem at all .Just ask whatever you want.
      The board is cut at 45° you can cut at different angle if you want you just make sure that opposite piece of wood is cut at the matching angle. that you get 90° edges so your board won't be bowed on the end.
      If you're interested i will make new video just about making boards cut at the angle.
      Please feel free to check my FB page under albums you'll find hundreds of pictures of my cutting boards. In there are boards cut at 45° .
      Thanks for watching

    I thought Oak was unsuitable for making cutting boards because of the open grain

    • @Slovenianwoodworker
      @Slovenianwoodworker  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends what oak you use.
      There are fev sorts which are dense and appropriate.

      @@Slovenianwoodworker I can only get American white Oak , is that ok

    • @Slovenianwoodworker
      @Slovenianwoodworker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      White oak should be ok. I know makers in USA that use White oak and it's fine.
      Try use pieces of wood that are close to the center which is more dense than the part near the edge / sapwood.
      Sapele for example will absorb much faster and more than oak and it's fine. Here everyone makes oak kitchen accessories and we have very strict laws about that

    Please cut the music when talking. And please speak louder. My volume is all up and still cant make out what you say. Other than that you are an amazing craftsman. I envy you. Happy new year.

      Andy Piszcz Well Andy. That was one of mine first videos that I made and I had shity camera at the time. I can imagine is not pleasant to watch and for that I do apologise. I ugrade mine equipment and took everything more serious. You can expect quality stuff in the future.
      Thank you for watching and your feedback mate. Best of luck

      Mark McRostie No worries mate. I accept all feedback positive or negative. And this is sure positive for me. That's how I can learn something from it. Videos so far were filmed with crapy camera and my editing skills were so so. Since my last video I upgraded to proper equipment and therefore it will be better audio/ video.
      Thank you for watching . Regards

    Question: I've been trying and trying to figure out why the current fad is to make endgrain cutting boards and bowls when the endgrain is the most open cell part of any wood, and therefore likely to harbor bacteria. Can you please tell me why everyone seems to be doing this?
