Hey guys cool that you're here again! I've seen all your videos and find them great! I find great your ideas. I hope we get to see more now: D Greetings from Germany
Guys, I ran I to you guys here on TH-cam when you were doing smaller gigs. You are definitely a long way from that. You guys amaze me in your production. Lights and sounds look great! Also love some of the music you guys play. I am also in the business and watching you guys log help me a lot. Some one mentioned being more efficient on subwoofers and I agree but I am sure the equipment you are using falls nowhere short to great. Keep it up guys and love watching your videos... You inspire.
Thanks :) I think the guy you were referring to was talking about horn loaded subs, which we don't prefer because they project their sound further vs front loaded bass reflex subs which have all the punch and volume up close and immediately on the dance floor.
Love these videos. You guys always inspire me with new lighting ideas! As for sound though, one suggestion I would make is put all of your subs in the center to prevent any chance of phase cancellation, plus you'll notice a 6 db increase (and if you haven't already, run your subs in mono). Now before you write this off as another crazy idea, let me give you an analogy: Imagine a small, calm pool of water, now imagine that two stones are dropped at opposite sides of the pool at the same time, what happens to the ripples when they meet? Now imagine that the two stones are stuck together and dropped into the pool, what happens then?
Thanks! And trust me, we have a very good understanding of what subwoofer placement does to coverage zones. We use prediction software to determine what the coverage will look like. In this case, we rented this system and the system owner wanted to deploy it in this manner. I didn't have any real objections because he had specialty wires that wouldn't have allowed for a center cluster anyways, but for something like a homecoming I didn't really object to the idea of having a power alley and power valleys. That way the people that don't want really loud bass can move off to the sides. Not to mention it was the only option available lol. -Alex
SLM Entertainment First off, specialty cables? Enlighten me. Second, what prediction software do you use? I plan on being a sound engineering major in college and I'd like to be ahead of the game. Plus I'm already a sound engineer at my church and I think it might be useful there seeing as they are mobile.
Sean Pitchford Well not really specialty in the sense of like proprietary, but specialty in the sense that he only had two large wires in total, one for each stack. So like the wires for all four cabs on one side all ran grouped together in a large heat shrink grouping (sorry but that's the best way I can explain it lol). They were all NL4 connectors, it's just there wouldn't have been a way to run the subs centered as the cables wouldn't have reached. Currently I use dB Technologies DVA Composer prediction software, simply because it's extremely easy to use. You can only choose speakers produced by dB Tech, but I don't really care. I've tried using MAPP before but it's way more complicated, and honestly I only use the software for getting a general idea of the way subs will react with one another. I don't have a need for detailed venue modeling and prediction yet. Good luck with your degree! I'm actually kinda jealous, I love learning about this stuff.
SLM Entertainment Oh I gotcha, so you probably had four amps, right? One for each stack. You plugged in a sub to each amp with an NL4 cable (which is essentially two channels in one cable) and since the subs (I assume) have a pass-through you then plugged the tops into the subs, right? That's pretty smart as far as cable management! At church we have Martin Blackline tops that use NL4 but for an entirely different reason. It uses two of the four connectors for driving the speaker, just like any other speaker, but then the other two are used as kind of a feedback system that the amp uses to self-compensate for any anomalies or to just keep idiots from blowing the speakers sky high. Also thanks for wishing me luck on my degree, although right now I'm more concerned about getting through senior year of high school. :-)
Sean Pitchford That's a pretty awesome setup you guys have running, but no I did not setup the system, the rental company did for us. We actually had an amp rack of 7 amps provided to us, 5 of which were in use. They were all QSC PLX3402s. Two were used for subs, two were used for midrange on the tops and one was used for the horns in the tops. Each box, if I can remember correctly, had it's own either NL2 or NL4 connector and cable run to it from the amp rack, with all of those cables being contained inside a master cable, which is why we couldn't have separated the tops from the subs. In part 2 you'll be able to see more detail about the amp rack and I'll go into some detail about the system. It's cool to see someone else who's young and informed on all this sound jargon, it's a very rare occurance! I myself am only 20. You are very well ahead of the curve, so you should have no problem with your pursuits. What amps do you have running that have this self-compensation feature? That's extremely intriguing and I'd like to know more about it!
The Mackies never really sounded good to us either. They're just kindaaaa loud, but not really. We only used them because at the time they were available and so we figured "hey why not?"
Yea man! All of the JBL cabs in general weren't as loud as we expected them to be, but they were the perfect volume for this event and sounded amazing, especially the subs. 25hz sub bass extension is a beautiful thing, and once you've tasted that you can never go back!
***** I go into more detail about it in part two, but the jist: 7 QSC PLX3402's Ashley Crossovers and Limiters Behringer EQ (ours) Very minimalistic and barebones, but fantastic nonetheless.
Hey guys me again, quick question. With the single tube trussing can you put the clamps with the half coupler on both ends of the tube? I'm coming up with difference ideas and one of them is to put a single tube of trussing over the DJ booth and have them mounted on speaker stands. I'm only putting lightweight lights on (LED Panels/pars etc.)
Matt Chaber My main reason, and this is just my opinion, but I don't think it will look good. I hope you got the 3 meter section, otherwise your speakers are going to have to be rather close together. Regardless, I don't think you'll be able to get the tube even high enough if you have it mounted on speaker stands. The highest you'll be able to get it is roughly 6ft I imagine. Another issue, I don't think the clamps will be strong enough/have enough friction to support the weight of the tube and the lights. It just might slide down. I could be wrong about this though, I've been surprised by the amount of friction clamps have in the past. Send me pictures of your rig when you get to using it though! I'm interested to see if it looks good, or bad, or if it even works.
***** I bought the 2 meter section because I mainly do parties at banquet halls and there is usually little room for me to setup. The bar works perfectly fine, the clamps hold on\ strong and don't slide down. I decided to see just how much the bar can hold so i threw on 2 Martin EFX 500s (30 pounds each), 2 Martin SCX 500s (15 pounds each), 2 ADJ MegaBar 50 RGBs, 1 X-Laser RG Caliente (Old Model), and 1 Chauvet ColorPalette. This was easily 120 pounds and the bar didn't even bend. The setup is symmetrical to make it look better. I'm waiting on 4 Chauvet SlimPar 38s to mount them on top because all the lights and hanging except the laser. Do you have an e-mail that I can send you a picture to? Or should I just upload a video of the rig?
The bar doesn't bend so that isn't really an issue and the stands are holding up fine, they hold up the weight without an issue. The laser is never pointed toward the crowd it is always aimed up 45 degrees or more towards the ceiling, therefore it won't hit anyone
Thanks man if you could answer this question in a later video that would be cool. My question is your opinion on the ADJ Vizi Beam 5R? I found a guy who has two for sale with a road case for only 1500
Matt Chaber They're alright, would prefer chauvet gear over ADJ. That deal seems too good to be true, but go for it if you're comfortable! Also not a huge fan of fixtures with bulbs, especially in a mobile setting. LED source is much preferred. But for $1500, why not?
they dont use a controller they use chauvet showxpress on a computer which the software is free but you have to get a little box that converts usb signal to dmx
There are two different kinds of moving heads. You could go have a look at the equipment list in part 2 and search up the moving heads for your answers.
Haha, sorry but obviously we charge for all of our events. There's no way we'd do an event like this for free! Our prices vary depending on the setup used, and we don't talk specifics about that publicly.
if we were able to do this with 4000w that would be amazing. that's less than two 20a circuits, only barely more than two 15a circuits. i believe we're around 10,000w here, or maybe like 4-5 circuits, i don't remember. this was like 4 years ago. we commonly use 5-6 circuits these days, the most we've ever needed is 10-11 circuits.
Well to be fair Mr Rohan Sidhu... We never said we could charge $20,000 for this... So... Yeah. Don't know why you think we could, of course we can't. Not sure where you got that idea. But for the horn sub stuff, I'm not gonna comment on that. I'm just the lighting guy, Alex does all the sound so you'd have to talk to him about that.
In the event that Mr. Rohan Sidhu sees this, we cannot have a discussion with you because your comments do not have the ability to be replied to. So before you go talking shit on TH-cam, how about you make it so that people can actually say something in return?
Should invest in some horn loaded subs. Hauling those old jbl's is useless when a single 18 does the same job at a louder spl. Or just go with a vrx system and have the best. Not going to lie this isn't a full production, you're missing a lot before you guys can begin charging $20k+. Let me know if you guys want some advice, doubt you'll eat into my gigs in Orange County.
Oh, before you harass me about the limitations of horn loaded stuff, just mentioning that in pairs they can go as low as something that's front loaded :). The way you had your stuff set up is just waiting for terrible phasing, unless you're using an x32 or some other digital board to program delays for each woofer.

These gig logs are the only thing keeping me from deleting my youtube account

great videos guysss !!!
Hell yea! New video!
POST THE VIDEO! AHHHH! ITS KILLING ME! post it while I'm still in computer apps. xD
What moving heads are mounted on the vertical truss? I've heard that can be bad for the gears.
What are those Led Wash Movers?
Nice to see some real speaker cabs, the Mackies sound like shit to me, I've a set of SR4733As and they're built like tanks. Good stuff as always!
The Mackies never really sounded good to us either. They're just kindaaaa loud, but not really. We only used them because at the time they were available and so we figured "hey why not?"
Ya, not to mention the build quality.
What's the song at 15:20? Love the JBL's and can't wait for part 2! :D
Mefjus & Bowsar (feat. Maksim) - Primal Instinct
Could I use a 500w rms home theater sub for a small party like 75 people?
Sure
9:13 song please I can't find it anywhere
Any thoughts to using vertical trussing and placing the moving heads around the gym.
Meh. We like creating a "traditional concert show". Aka, big cool looking stage directly at the front.
Good work bro's!
is that truss consisting of 2x 6.56ft or 2x 8.30ft
It is 2x 11.48ft
+Doug Berry alright thank you
What do you guys have the crossover for the main system set at for this gig?
I don't know if y'all do this but what about hang trusses with chain motors to hang from the ceiling?
yep, check our gig log for cedar cliff mini thon 2016
Nice, would be amazing to be able to dj my school's dances!
Awesome! You rented 4 JBL SRX4719x? Great subs i have a couples!

Very minimalistic and barebones, but fantastic nonetheless.
Do you recommend any good rgb laser to buy?
This is so fucking awesome guys!
What"s the song at the start of the video (not gig)?
What Software Do you use for the Lights?
Good Video:)
+Technikbuffalo Thanks, and we use Chauvet ShowXpress.

oke thanks
Your scissor is at the 4:03 mark
HAHAHAHA!
Freaking gold! In all the editing I completely didn't notice that.
What kind of light controller do you use?
they dont use a controller they use chauvet showxpress on a computer which the software is free but you have to get a little box that converts usb signal to dmx
Here, the controller was an Akai PC Mini. Now, they use an Avolites Titan Mobile.
what song at the start of the video intro

how many watts each moving head?
There are two different kinds of moving heads. You could go have a look at the equipment list in part 2 and search up the moving heads for your answers.

We have, but they're useless for what we do.
Nice
PS: Your Vids are great! ;D I want to buy 2 of the Chauvet Spots too, can yout recommend them to me?
MadGaming Thanks, and the Intimidator Spot 355z is great. Get that.
how do you manage with electricity? i mean you must be pushing over 4000 watts

dude chill bro those old srx cabinets sound amazing bro very punchy and powerful bro and the x32 is trash the right way to go is a allen heath qu 32
